Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday home in Névian

We offer you a stay in a 4-star house (by law award), between vineyard and garrigue in a wine-producing estate in activity.

This accommodation combines ancient and modern. Without taking off the authentic character of winemakers’ house from Languedoc, the recent renovation brought equipment and comfort which match better modern life.

You will enjoy countryside peace and many shops nearby at the same time : butcher’s, grocery store, bakery, newspapers...

You can go walking or cycling across the vines or go up until the wind farm, a few km away..

You can also, when it is hot in summer, enjoy swimming in the pool located in a green area...

Then, relax, comfortably settled in deckchairs, in the sun or in the shade of the almond tree.

Make the most of the garden in which you can hear the cicadas.

The words conjure up all sorts of romantic notions; hot, dry countryside, fields as far as the eye can see of vines swaying and bulging heavily with fat green grapes of all sorts of varieties, Chardonnay, Syrah, Sauvignon all just waiting to be turned into delicious wine, the Mediterranean, warm and inviting with miles of golden sands and small, hidden fishing villages with tempting dishes of the day.

It’s all of that and more.

We have found the French to be welcoming and helpful, they will even put up with my rubbishy attempts at fracturing their language but will help by putting you right with the pronunciation .The Languedoc accent is quite strong and even my wife, who has a good command of the language found it difficult at times.

We were staying in a gite in Nevian, about 11k west of Narbonne which we found on (www.homeaway.co.uk/p578554a). Its quite big with three bedrooms upstairs with bath/shower and downstairs shower and toilet. The kitchen is reasonably large and all of the equipment works. I must say at this juncture that while the place could not be described as high tec and cutting edge we found that within a short space of time we got used to the typically French arrangements.

The garden and pool are by far the best feature, private (except for owners house to one side) and M. Albert cleans it early every morning.

Therese and Albert are delightful, friendly, helpful and with some perseverance we managed to hold some erratic conversations and exchanged family and work backgrounds.

Nevian has some shops and a friendly bar. The Butcher(excellent meat), Boulangerie and mini-market will service most of your needs. However we did a big shop in the local Geant and visited other towns in the region with markets on most days of the week where good, local regional fayre can be found. Cheese is good, as is the oil, garlic, bread and of course wine.

Don’t be shy about visiting the local caves and sampling the wines. All of the villages seem to have independent growers and producers but I would advise a little research where the best wines and oil can be found. They are not expensive and you will be helping the local economy

  • 5 of 5

  • 5 of 5

  • 5 of 5

A bientôt...
