About Sandy Wagner
My partner Marsha and I are both native New Yorkers who spent many years travelling the world. Marsha is an attorney and I am a part time mortgage banker and entrepreneur.
Sandy Wagner purchased this Townhouse in 2000
Why Sandy Wagner chose Strivers' Row
We moved to this house because it is a spectacular, gracious home. Most New Yorkers do not have the luxury of having the space we do. We feel very lucky to be living here

Great place on Strivers Row
We stayed at Sondra and Marsha's property for a week in late June 2019. It is a large open studio space on the third floor with space for a bed and living room furniture (and rowing machine, ping pong table, etc.). As advertised, there is no dedicated kitchen but a small refrigerator, hot plate, and coffee machine -- cooking a meal would be difficult! But it is stocked with complimentary "quick eats" like soups, ramen, cereals, energy bars, etc. so you won't go hungry. Plus, each evening we were given a different plate of breakfast foods for the next morning -- muffins, hard boiled eggs, fruit, juice, etc. The place is very large and comfortable, and with a subway stop a couple blocks away it is easy to get around the city. Sondra and Marsha were great hosts -- always helpful and available to answer questions but never intrusive. For example, on our first day Sondra noticed that one of two air conditioners was somewhat noisy and she said she'd take care of it; next day there was a new AC. They couldn't make NYC itself less hot and humid, but they certainly helped make our visit a great one.
Love the Harlem Loft!
The property is GREAT, as described, but the description doesn't do justice to the hospitality of Marsha and Sandy - they are amazing hosts! I stayed for 6 nights while attending a conference, and I will happily stay there again next time I get to go to NYC.
They kindly accommodated me when I arrived early in the morning off a red-eye flight, setting me up in their library with fresh-squeezed oj and pastries while I rested and waited for the loft to be ready. They provided a tasty platter of pastries, oj, fruit, hummus, etc. every day (which cut down my food expenditures significantly). When I bumped into them at the theater one night, they shared their cab home with me; when my friend stayed with me one night and had a health crisis while I was at work, Sandy called and paid for an uber ride so she wouldn't have to walk anywhere. I'm SO glad I found this place!
Things to note about the place:
Cool neighborhood. I walked back late every night and felt safe.
Hosts are easy to contact and quick to respond.
It's a quick walk to the B&C trains, so easy to get around the city.
Lots of stairs, so not so good for those unable to manage them.
Ping-pong table, exercise bike, rowing machine.
Tons of "what to do in NY and how to get there" resources in the loft, and Sandy & Marsha have great recommendations too.
Spacious, great hospitality & good location.
Owners were excellent hosts. Very friendly & accommodating. Would recommend & won’t hesitate to stay here again.
Heavenly in Harlem
I was delighted to find this spacious beautiful peaceful retreat in a location so near my son’s apartment in Harlem. He moved to New York in 2012 and though I love to see him it is difficult to adjust to the noise and tight quarters in other accommodations I have tried as I live in the country and am used to lots of room and serenity. . Now I have found my heavenly home away from home and the most lovely people to spend time with that I could ever have imagined.
When I arrived I was barely able to walk after taking a bad fall in Penn Station. Both Laura and Gerard, the neighbor couple who were helping Sandy and Laura for a few days, helped me get settled upstairs. Laura hauled my suitcases upstairs and explained everything to me, they brought me food, brought me a cold pack and Ben Gay, and Gerard spent a lot of time getting my television to work.
It was the most endearing and kind experience I could have had and it meant the world to me as I was in a great deal of pain. My entire visit the same abundance of care and accommodation continued, and at the same time, very private and quiet. The mornings are so quiet and peaceful I slept in one day until almost noon and I never ever sleep in, in fact, I never sleep in New York. . You awaken to a view of the trees out windows on both sides of the house and birds serenading through the lovely open space and light streaming through the skylights. Pictures do not do it justice. The feeling in this incredible historic spot is impossible to photograph.
I lost track of how many times I took a jacuzzi in the glorious bathtub! The bathroom is almost as big as the usual New York space. And they provided wonderful food at breakfast and snacks and fruit and coffee and cream and cheeses and yogurt in the stuffed refrigerstor, and even delicious New York bagels and cream cheese my last morning.
Sandy and Marsha returned and the spoiling continued. The highlight for me was when they all agreed to come to the Belmont Stakes Festival with me when my son could not go. It made my day. To get to know them is to love them all.
I have traveled all over and frequently used vacation rental by owner sites. This is my all time favorite and I will never want to stay anywhere else on my New York visits. I am always happy to come home to my animals and my life but I left a piece of my heart behind in Harlem this time. I so look forward to my next visit and to seeing my new friends.
Lovely holiday on Strivers Row
10/10 to our hosts. Went above and beyond to ensure we were well looked after, and their home was beautiful. The top floor of their townhouse was our private getaway for 7 days. The most generous hosts I have ever come across. Left us all kinds of treats, and breakfast every morning, ( bagels, muffins, croissants ) and supplied orange juice and cheese and cream for coffee, yogurts, and fresh fruit, it was endless. Lovely large bathroom and comfortable bed. Ping pong table and exercise bike and large tv to keep you entertained when you just want to relax. We will definitely be back.
Great place to stay!
Hosts are wonderful, loft is beautiful, and close to Columbia University! Hope to come back soon!
