Beautiful house in perfect town location
Our family of 8 stayed in this 5 bed town house in the centre of the beautiful old town of Barjac. Although there wasn't designated parking spaces, we nearly always managed to get a space (or 2) outside the house. All rooms were beautifully furnished and well equipped (including towels) I particularly loved our chandelier (one of many in the house) in our twin sink, walk-in shower and bath en-suite. There were also a couple of large balconies overlooking a gorgeous courtyard with tables, chairs, sun loungers and gas barbeque. We have stayed in various places in The Ardeche region over the past years and this was perfect for our mixed aged family with children ranging from 13 to 24, as we could all come and go to the bars, restaurants and shops to suit without anyone driving. And with a delicious boulangerie for our daily fresh bread and pan au chocolats a few seconds walk away, what more could you ask for in a town property? We all appreciate good food, so it was great that all the restaurants we ate in were delicious and a fair price.
Great communication with the owner before and during too - thank you Laetitia for an amazing stay.
A Truly Lovely Village House in a Charming Spot
Le Clos Challiot was a great home base for exploring the south of France. It is very well equipped and comfortable. The reconstruction is very tasteful and clean but still retains the architectural bones from the renaissance. The kitchen had everything we needed to make and serve meals for the 9 of us.
We were greeted by the owners father and mother who were most gracious. They gave us many recommendations for eating out nearby and made certain we had everything we need for our stay in the home.
Having stayed at a number of villas, apartments and country homes in Italy, France, Germany etc. this was by far the best appointed. 2 washers and actual dryer! Everything was in proper working order. We were 9 adults. The property could have easily slept another adult with a couple cots for young teens or children. Plenty of seating for dining in our out on the lovely patio.
The owner stopped by on her way through during out stay. She and her Father warmly made sure we enjoyed our stay and remained available for questions through out our stay. Truly great hosts. They managed the property very professionally yet with warmth and welcome. Everything went without a hitch. The only thing to note for us every connected American travelers, the French rural internet is spotty and cell service inside thick stone walls can be a challenge.. but you are on vacation so who needs such things.
The property is an easy drive to the vineyards of the Cotes du Rhone and Chateauneuf du Pape. Within an hour or so the ancient theatre in Orange, closer yet the Pont du Gard. We were able to visit many places in Provence with easy day trips. The owner arranged a cooking class in the nearby town of Besas which was great fun. One could spend their entire vacation and not go far. Barjac has a lot of charm on it's own. All of the amenities you need, groceries, pharmacy, wine cave, and a fantastic market every Friday right out your door.
Many thanks to the owners for sharing their lovely property!
The house is located 1 km away from Barjac, in the village centre, very close to the bars and restaurants. Barjac is a market town in Northern Gard, on the right bank of the Rhone River in the Languedoc-Roussillon Region, near the Cevennes. Very big market on Fridays. The closest cities are Saint-Ambroix (33 km) Alès, Vallon-Pont-d'Arc, Pont-Saint-Esprit and Uzès. Within 1h driving, you will be in Nimes or Avignon.
