Legend says the big bend in the Rock River at Grand Detour happened because the river was so beautiful there, she turned around for one last look at her beauty as she flowed downstream. Come and enjoy the legend!
The master bedroom and bath are located for privacy on the main floor. A patio window opens onto a deck with great views of the river. Two other bedrooms are located upstairs with a shared 3/4 bathroom and boast a beautiful river view with wildlife. The main floor has a large great room with a full kitchen and dining area. The dining table can accommodate 10 people comfortably. A large natural stone fireplace and several sitting areas complete the room while you enjoy the outdoor views. The lower level has a bar with seating for 8, and a comfortable sitting area where you can enjoy the warmth that another natural stone fireplace offers.
The large front yard has plenty of room for playing and offers river banks on both sides for fishing. Catfish and walleye are plentiful! If you like, throw up a tent and enjoy the night skies and sounds before you drift into tranquil sleep!
Several decks around the house are made for relaxing while you enjoy the day or evening on this beautiful river. The rear yard has a large fire pit, complete with firewood and rustic seating. Bring your guitar and have a sing along with the owls or tell ghost stories long into the night!
While the river channel and mill race can be very shallow and not appropriate for launching a boat, a public boat launch is located within one mile and several others launches are just a few miles away. Canoe and kayak rentals are available seven miles up river in Oregon, IL. A canoe trip takes you through a Castle Rock State Park and Lowden Miller State Forest and affords many opportunities to enjoy the limestone/sandstone bluffs and the thrill of watching eagles fish in the river.
We had a women's gathering here. We turned the lower level into a spa/meditation space, and everyone bunked together in the three bedrooms. The river flowed majestically and provided a beautiful backdrop to our getaway from it all. There is no sacrifice here: dishwasher, laundry machines, three bathrooms, and a huge TV (which we covered with a blanket and pretended didn't exist). Beautiful scenery, all of the amenities you could want, landlord very accommodating. Get away from it all and relax!
Our stay here was perfect! The house was secluded on a beautiful island and the view was lovely. Our party was great and the house had everything we might need from utensils to firewood. We will definitely visit again! Great place.
Needed to decompress from stressful job & the daily stresses of everyday life... It was very nice relaxing environment, quiet. View of river, sound of water, small wildlife running around birds singing, if you like to fish or have little ones, it is perfect. No busy highways to worry about. Clean, Comfortable & Cared for in every way. Owner supplied every request I had and was on call for my whole stay. Grand kids loved to be able to fish & sit by the fire pit. Very comfortable restful place. Highly recommend.
We spend 3 nights on the island and it was amazing. The house was really nice, very spacious. It was the perfect space for the family. We did have a few issues with the gate to get on the property but Ken was quick to fix it.
On my 80th Birthday our Children came from points beyond. The home and grounds are beautiful. It's close to the highway but secluded in the woods surrounded by The Rock River. We sat around the Fire pit and watched the Lightening Bugs and the Shooting Stars...all in abundance.
A wonderful affordable vacation spot.

There are 5 beautiful state parks in the area within a 15 minute ride. You can hike and picnic at all of them. They offer beautiful prairie, forest and river vistas with plenty of hiking trails and picnic areas. Wild life is plentiful. Deer and wild turkeys are seen frequently. The tree canopies offer fabulous birding opportunities.
John Deere Historic Site is less than a mile away. You can explore his original workshop/forge and his home and grounds. This site offers an amazing view of life in the1860's and a wealth of knowledge about how the original self cleaning plow was invented and how it changed agriculture forever.
The town of Dixon is conveniently located just 5 miles away.
