|Minimum Stay||4 nights|
Large, spacious English Basement Studio with open floor plan in one of DC's great neighborhoods. Close to everything. Get anywhere in the city with ease -- only one block from Union Station (Red Line Metro stop). Only 4 to 5 blocks from the Capitol Building, Supreme Court, and Library of Congress. A beautiful tree-lined walk past decorative water fountains is all that separates you from all the museums, monuments and memorials on the National Mall.
You will be amazed with the convenience and elegance of Union Station and its Red Line Metro stop. The Red Line is the main backbone of the DC Metro -- connecting to all of the other lines -- so the entire metro area is just minutes away -- pop over to Gallery Place/China Town, Metro Center, Dupont Circle, the National Zoo, or Foggy Bottom without the hassle of traffic or parking. If you are looking for a taxi, there is always a line of them waiting in front of Union Station. You can also catch many of the tour buses and the famous amphibious duck tours at Union Station as well. If you want to get around by bicycle, there is also a Capital Bike Share station at Union Station — great for getting around on the mall — ride them to the White House or the Washington, Lincoln, and Jefferson Monuments.
Just around the corner from the house is the world's best bagel shop (no better sandwiches anywhere) and several other great neighborhood restaurants with outside seating along Massachusetts Avenue. Ask for Milton at La Loma -- the best margaritas around -- relaxing under shade umbrellas is one of the best ways to pass an afternoon or evening. We are also conveniently located to Eastern Market and all the shops and restaurants along Pennsylvania Avenue and 8th Street SE (about 1 mile away). We are even closer (just a few blocks) to one of the hottest growing areas in all of DC: the H Street Corridor with all of its great restaurants, bars, and boutique shopping.
If you want to get your own groceries and cook, there is a brand new Giant grocery store that just opened up 3 blocks away.
The kitchen is a full-size eat-in kitchen that is a separate room from the living area. The kitchen has granite countertops, a full-size sink, and full-size appliances (not the mini versions found in many studio and basement units), including a dishwasher. The kitchen has a table that comfortably sits four.
The living area is a large open space that is carpeted. Half of the space is a nice sized living room and the other half is the bedroom area. In the sleeping area there is a queen size bed, full closet and dressers for clothes and storage. There is a sitting area next to the window near the bed that has a nice desk if you need to do work or be on the computer.
The other half of the open space is the living room, which has a large comfortable futon, a couple nice chairs, and the TV. There is a bay window off of the living area that faces toward the street. The futon can be folded down to comfortably sleep 2 more people (in addition to the queen bed).
NOTE: If you are interested in a larger space or additional space, please see the listing for the main part of the row house (VRBO listing #575404).
There is a full size bathroom with tub and shower. Unfortunately the studio does not have a clothes washer or dryer. There is a dry-cleaner with laundry service two blocks away.
We have wifi internet and the TV has the DirecTV expanded package with HBO and Showtime -- parental controls available). The TV is also connected to the internet for easy ordering of NetFlix movies.
Finally, we are very conveniently located for travelers coming in and out of the city. Washington National Airport is less than 3 miles away (15-20 minutes in good traffic) or you can take Metro from Union Station to National Airport. We are, of course, super convenient for anyone traveling by train — trains depart Union Station almost every hour for destinations up and down the east coast — catch a train and be in Manhattan in less than 4 hours (2 hours if you take the express Acela train) -- go catch a Broadway show!
Whatever your interest, whatever your need, we are confident you will feel at home while enjoying your vacation or tending to business in the nation's capital.
This property is listed by its Owners (a married couple with a 5 years old son). The Owners have lived in The Blue House for over 10 years.

Our family of 2 adults and 3 children stayed for a week at this property. The location is excellent, just a few minute walk to Union Station. From there the DC Circulator is just $1 a trip (and free subsequent trips within 2 hours if you get a SmartTrip card) and takes you around the loop for all the Smithsonians and Monuments.
It was very hot in DC when we were there, but the apartment stay pleasantly cool, it does not have much natural light as it's the bottom floor, which adds to it staying cool. The kitchen allowed us to prepare meals and lunches for our stay. It has a dishwasher.
The street is quiet and pleasant, with little through travel. We could hear very little noise from the floors above. It felt like a very safe location.
It is well presented, linens were good, nice towels and pillows, the apartment is cleaned and well maintained.
Eric emailed me comprehensive and helpful information. Nevana contacted me by phone to ensure I could access the apartment and was keen to ensure everything was Ok.
I would definitely recommend this apartment.
We are grandparents who took two grand kids to DC. The apartment was perfect with everyone having their own bed. Although we had no time to cook, the kitchen was well equipped. Perfect location as it was a very short walk to Union Station, just a couple of blocks. We walked to the Capitol as well. Also, good restaurants nearby as Nevena told us in her welcome letter.
Nevena is fantastic to work with and very conscientious about making sure your stay is good, I would stay there again and I would recommend to friends and family!
We made great memories with the grand kids!!!
Our 15 yr old grandson picked Washington DC for his trip without parents or siblings. And this met our needs on all accounts. It was clean and exactly as described. The best part for us was the easy walk to Union Station where we boarded the Metro or DC Circulator to take in 4 days of DC for $12 each. Also the food court on the lower level met our grandson's eating tastes. We definitely will return to this lovely neighborhood site.
This English studio is located in the perfect spot for travelers who come to DC on Amtrak. It is a 5 minute walk from Union Station to the studio. This studio is located in a quaint Capitol Hill neighborhood with two local markets nearby and a number of local restaurants just around the corner on Massachusetts. We cooked breakfast each morning and ate the rest of our meals around town. The kitchen was stocked with all the necessary tools for cooking. Nevena, the owner of the studio was very prompt in answering any questions/concerns that I had. There was some noise from the family upstairs, it sounded like small children running around, but nothing that really disturbed our stay. Overall a great place to stay and one that we would consider staying at again.
I was a little hesitant when planning a vacation to DC with my 87 year old mother and one of my sisters. I spoke to Nevena several times prior to the trip and she alleviated all of my concerns.
The apartment was spacious and clean. I wanted to make sure my mother would be able to walk to Union Station and it was a breeze; a 5 minute walk to the Metro, tour buses and taxi cabs. We felt safe in the neighborhood, even getting back past 9:30 pm after a night-time tour of the monuments. Having the kitchen was great, and there were several markets within walking distance that saved us from eating out three meals a day. It was, without a doubt, more comfortable and homey than a hotel would have been, and you can't beat the location! We even managed to catch the beginnings of the Cherry Blossoms.
I would recommend this apartment (and the house upstairs for a larger group) to anyone who wants to be in the heart of DC. I would definitely contact Nevena again if we return to DC. Who knows, maybe for my mother's 90th birthday!
My wife and I stayed at the property for five nights and could not have been happier with our choice. I was in town for a regulatory conference. She came along as a tourist.
As described in the property details, it is perfectly located for easy access to Union Station, the subway and the bike-sharing system (we suggest you try it!). Best of all, for me, it was only two blocks from my conference. The Giant grocery store was also conveniently nearby.
The suite is as described in the property description. The main living/bedroom area is spacious. The full kitchen was fully-appointed and would definitely accommodate four people. It was nice to have a full dishwasher. The only inconvenient aspect was that while there is a doorway between the living room/bedroom area to the kitchen, there was no door. So if one person had to be up early (e.g., to attend a regulatory conference) and the other person was sleeping in (with plans to go out sightseeing later), there was no way to keep the light and noise from the kitchen out of the bedroom area. It is effectively all one room.
We had no problems with the wi-fi once we connected the first time and it was nice to have the full menu available on Direct TV, along with the PVR capability (it was easy to figure out, never having used a Direct TV system before). The bathroom was probably the oldest looking part of the suite, but it was clean and functional. We did notice that the plumbing for the shower appeared to be reversed (turn to “C” to get it to come out hot and vice versa). They also had the important extras like an iron and (half-size) ironing board, portable space heater, extra bedding, plenty of closet space with hangers and soap/shampoo in the bathroom.
The owners were very easy to deal with and were extremely accommodating as we needed access to the suite for much of the day following our last night, because I was in a conference and had no options for packing and storing our luggage elsewhere. They also quickly helped out when the wi-fi was not working when we arrived and gave us a new access password.
