The master bedroom overlooks the lake, as does the deck. The home environment is beautiful and quiet with a undeveloped forest on one side so that you can watch the birds while lying in your wide, comfortable hammock enjoying a cool drink.
All this, is just 25 easy driving minutes from Granada, or slightly more to Managua in the opposite direction. Granada has many great restaurants, interesting colonial architecture and famous horse driven carriage rides through the city. Taxis are easily available from the Laguna into Granada, Masaya or Managua. There is also a daily bus to Masaya from the local school, which is about 1 mile, beautiful walk from the house.

Why Richard and Joyce Stanley chose Masaya
We settled on a home in Laguna de Apoyo Nicaragua because of the people, commitment to environmental protection and beauty and peace of the lake front environment. Best of both worlds - lakeside home, easy access to town, beautiful environment. We also have a home in Ashland OR, home of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival if you would like to travel there!!
What makes this House unique
We feel at peace here on the Laguna. The environment provides a great place to read, write, skype family, or just look at the lake and listen to the birds! You are an easy walk from restaurants and spanish classes too!

Beautiful, quiet location
Casa Legado on Laguna do Apoyo is a beautiful location. We had a great week staying there as a base for exploring some of Nicaragua. It’s very quiet – and we enjoyed seeing the monkeys on several occasions. Sitting in the hammock, looking at the view, was a recurring pleasure. We rented a car for our stay, which was a boon to us (an older couple). There are buses nearby and taxis available, but the car enabled us to get to several different places very easily. There aren’t many restaurants nearby and, without a car, it’s harder to get around, particularly in the evenings. The staff are very helpful and the housekeeper will do your washing for you. There are two major supermarkets – La Colonia and La Union – in both Masaya and Granada. The La Colonia in Masaya is larger, but Granada is a more interesting city.
This home was absolutely beautiful, very rustic and quaint, it came with everything you need including a hammock, and a tree growing through the porch/roof. You feel very isolated from others, which is great if you're here to relax. The hosts were very responsive and helpful along with the onsite staff. I recommend going to Masaya for groceries prior to arriving as the only option for food are nearby restaurants. Masaya feels more like a city if thats what you're after for food, Granada is filled with food Markets, less options for food but its always fun bargaining in a different language.
It was wonderful having you as our guests. We are so happy you enjoyed the solitude and peace and quiet. Thanks for the good tips on grocery shopping and we would add that basics are also available within a mile from the house at Pedro and Fatima's local market. We will certainly add your ideas to our welcome letter which provides lots of information about local resources in the area. Good travels and welcome back to Casa Legado.
Beautiful home, has everything you could possibly need, view worth a million dollars, lake wonderful to swim in, friendly gardening and cleaning staff, good bird watching and wakened by howlers.
Owner reply to any queries rapidly.
15 minutes to closest pulperia, and half an hour walk to the bus— that’s the isolated part!
Would definitely recommend this spot.

Loved Casa Legado, nicely furnished with rustic antique furniture. The view from the deck & your bed as you wake up is beautiful. Listen to the sound of birds, monkeys...swim in the warm clear Laguna. There is a hostel 1 mile away with great restaurant & massages, manicures. You can also get on the shuttle here if you would like to go to Granada. The local bus stops a few times in front of the school & if you are looking for fresh fruit, veggies, eggs & basic groceries there is a bodega just past the hostel Paradiso. The maid Carol does a really great job of cleaning the house & the gardener works tirelessly to keep the grounds beautiful. There are also tours available from the Paradiso hostel & this is the perfect location if you enjoy doing a lot of walking.
Great location and very peaceful
We had a great visit to Laguna de Apoyo. The view was great and we thoroughly enjoyed using the kayaks and paddleboard; we basically had the laguna to ourselves on early morning paddles. The location allowed easy sightseeing trips from Granada on days we didn't just chill at the house. Also, the periodic cleaning by the on-site staff was outstanding! It was quite warm when we were there so it would have been helpful to have a couple more portable fans to increase airflow through the house. We enjoyed our stay and would like to return to catch a few of the attractions we didn't get to explore this time. Thanks so much for letting us visit.
We are so happy you enjoyed your stay. Sounds like you experienced our favorite part of the Laguna - peaceful mornings in the water! We will certainly share your comment with Carole who takes care of the house! She will appreciate that very much. Regarding the fans - We did have two portable fans available and will check further about that as well. We look forward to your return in the future and thanks again for your review.
I am from Nicaragua. My husband and I went to Nicaragua for a wedding. I have never seen the lagoon before. It is a wonderful place. Joyce and Richard were very accommodating with a couple of requests. Their home is larger than the pictures suggest. It is tastefully decorated. The garden, the sound of the birds and view of the lagoon are very relaxing. I liked having the kayaks available for our use, which we did use!!! The water access are is very private and the water temperature is perfect. The only suggestion if no transportation is available is to bring all your groceries with you. A couple of restaurants are close by but it is a hike (literally) to get to them but not impossible. One of them easier reached by walking along the shore (walking a few steps about 6 inches in the water). The overall experience was indescribable. Definitely would go there again.
Laguna de Apoyo is a temperate mineral lake surrounded by a natural forest reserve, full of birds, wildlife and flowers. There are no motors allowed in the lake giving you a back to nature experience. Beauty, solitude and cool mineral waters to rejuvenate you. Kayaks, windsurfers, paddle boards and snorkeling are some of the favorite lake activities. The road that circles the lake, with great views, is perfect for hiking or biking. There are several excellent restaurants and bars along the lake shore and small shops to buy basic goods. All this with the grand old city of Granada only 30 minutes away with its cathedrals, colonial architecture, restaurants, bars and shopping. The best of both worlds: the quiet and beauty of the lake yet, only 30 minutes from Masaya or Granada.
