Overview

About the property

Cozy one bedroom cottage on riverfront property on lovely Ware Neck.

Come and spend your vacation in this quiet, peaceful setting on the Ware River. The estate boasts 290 ft of shoreline. This charming and historic 2 story cottage sits on 7 acres located on the Ware Neck Peninsula. The cottage has hand hewn post and beam construction dating to approximately the 1790s. There are fireplaces in both the living room and bedroom. There are ceiling fans in the bedroom and on the front porch. Just in front of the cottage is the restored icehouse built in the late 18th century and used to store blocks of ice brought from up north by steamboats down the Chesapeake Bay. The water front is a short stroll and has a pier with a floating dock. This is a perfect spot for watching beautiful sunsets while enjoying a glass of wine, fishing, crabbing or launching your canoe or kayak. The Cottage is 70 min from Richmond or Norfolk, 2 hours from DC, 45 min from Williamsburg, 30 min from Yorktown and 20 minutes to the Arts community of Matthews. It provides a great home base for exploring this beautiful and diverse region of Virginia.

Historic & wonderful place!

  • 5 of 5

My husband, our black Lab, & I spent 5 days in this unique cottage with all amenities as listed. Peg & John had suggestions for dinners & places to see. Great grounds to walk around & view the waterway. For us it was central to what we wanted to see...from Deltaville to Portsmouth VA. We appreciate that they allow well behaved dogs & would highly recommend it to others.

Absolutely Amazing!!!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I had a wonderful time at the cottage, it was so cozy from the beginning to the end. We loved how Jhon and Peg have payed attention to all the little details in order to make you comfortable, and it was truly like being home just without the NYC rush.

We very much enjoyed the location since it's not really far from Williamsburg, Virginia beach, Chesapeake bay etc. Needless to mention Gloucester, which is gorgeous itself. We look forward to come back again and again.

Lastly, if you looking for a peaceful and relaxing getaway, then you have found a lovely place.

Thank you Jhon and Peg. Job well done!!

Fabulous getaway!

  • 5 of 5

The cottage couldn't be more charming - impressive attention to detail in both renovation and appointing. The grounds are wonderful too, including the dock on the Ware River where we were able to monitor two osprey nesting on an adjacent extra pile (with accompanying platform) that hosts John & Peg put in with the hopes of drawing such a homestead. Their generous, welcoming demeanor towards the water fowl translated to us, as well. I'd recommend to any couple wanting to get away for a relaxing stay in the area (Williamsburg, Jamestown, and Yorktown are all within about 45 mins. drive). We're eyeing a return visit ourselves!

Wonderful

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is like something out of a storybook. Booking was easy, the owners were accommodating although they didn't have to be to sell the cottage it pretty much sells itself. I went there for peace and serenity after dealing with a hectic life adjustment. I also wanted something outside of the norm. The cottage did not disappoint, I wish I could have stayed longer but was offered exactly what I needed at the time. I will be booking again...and again...and again.

Great weekend getaway place

  • 4 of 5

Property was nice. Stairs were somewhat of a challenge. But overall was exactly what we were looking for in a weekend getaway.

Owner's Response: We are sorry that you found the stairs to be challenging. This is a colonial era home and we find the 9 ft ceilings on the first floor to be part of the charm. That does, however, increase the climb. We are glad that otherwise the cottage was exactly what you were looking for in a weekend getaway.
