Description

Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday cottage in Williamsburg - The Cottage at Glebefield

Cozy one bedroom cottage on riverfront property on lovely Ware Neck.

Come and spend your vacation in this quiet, peaceful setting on the Ware River. The estate boasts 290 ft of shoreline. This charming and historic 2 story cottage sits on 7 acres located on the Ware Neck Peninsula. The cottage has hand hewn post and beam construction dating to approximately the 1790s. There are fireplaces in both the living room and bedroom. There are ceiling fans in the bedroom and on the front porch. Just in front of the cottage is the restored icehouse built in the late 18th century and used to store blocks of ice brought from up north by steamboats down the Chesapeake Bay. The water front is a short stroll and has a pier with a floating dock. This is a perfect spot for watching beautiful sunsets while enjoying a glass of wine, fishing, crabbing or launching your canoe or kayak. The Cottage is 70 min from Richmond or Norfolk, 2 hours from DC, 45 min from Williamsburg, 30 min from Yorktown and 20 minutes to the Arts community of Matthews. It provides a great home base for exploring this beautiful and diverse region of Virginia.

Beautiful and interesting property

  • 5 of 5

The only drawback was that we couldn't extend our stay and get to know the area better. The cottage is so pretty. It had everything we needed including a fantastic old fireplace we lit both nights. When we had trouble with the fire the first night John came right over and showed us the proper way to light a fire. We explored Yorktown and Williamsburg and loved it.

A 5 star VRBO!!!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I recently spent 3 nights at this extremely charming cottage! It was immaculate, perfectly appointed, and very comfortable for the two of us. The beautiful and quiet grounds, as well as the opportunity to get out on the Ware River in kayaks, made this a very unique spot. We never would have enjoyed discovering this interesting part of Virginia had we not booked this VRBO. The nearby general store was a hit! We picked up a last minute dinner there and returned to the cottage to enjoy it in front of a cozy fire.

The owners were fantastic communicators both prior and after our stay. They also made us feel very comfortable during our stay as we walked the property and used their dock. We will definitely pass on our positive experience with friends and family AND hope to make a return visit in the future!!

The cottage was adorable and well appointed. The grounds were beautiful with room to roam.

We came to Glebefield Cottage after my son's wedding to unwind and enjoy the beauty of the property. The coziness of the cottage and expansive grounds were peaceful and a welcome respite. If our travels take us back to the area, there is no other place we would rather be.

Magical anniversary weekend getaway!!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I were celebrating a milestone anniversary and chose the Ware River Cottage. This cozy cottage was beautifully appointed and had everything we needed for a magical weekend. I spent the mornings sipping coffee on the brick patio, and the dock was a favorite sunset destination. Our hosts, Peg and John, were very friendly and we got a wonderful sense of the history of the property. The location was very peaceful but close enough to town for meals and shopping, and we were able to make the short trip to Yorktown to enjoy the national park and join a sailing charter down the river. This was the perfect choice for our getaway and is the best VRBO we have ever stayed at.

Glebefield Middle Cottage is a bit of paradise not to be missed.

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I were delightfully surprised by our visit to Middle Cottage. The cottage was immaculate and exuded a great deal of country charm. Set a half mile down a private, well kept road it is the perfect place if you are looking for a quiet getaway from a busy suburban life or a romantic weekend. We live in the country in the middle of the woods in a very small New England town and still found the quiet solitude a welcome respite. Peg and John, for the brief amount of time we spent with them, were warm and welcoming. They are delighted to share their garden, their property, and their waterfront with you. Their only concern is making certain everything is just right for you and your visit.

The area holds many surprises from wine tasting at Nuttall's Country Store to the vast supply of garden bulbs at Brent and Becky's, not to mention its close proximity to Jamestown, Yorktown and Colonial Williamsburg. There is kayaking on the Ware River or quiet walks around the property and down the road. If you are looking for a moderately priced vacation where you can experience as much or as little as you choose, this is definitely the place to go.
