This log cabin is located 2 miles west of Bailey on the Platte River. It has 2 bedrooms, each with a queen sized bed, one and a half bathrooms, living room, dining room and a beautiful sunroom with a cathedral ceiling. The kitchen has been remodeled and includes all dishes and cooking necessities, even some spices. The sunroom looks out to the beautiful Platte River where you can fish, tube or just sit in the swing and enjoy the view. We have lots of hummingbirds to entertain you as well.
Pat and I are retired and reside In Florida during the winter. In the summer we divide our time between our cabin in Bailey and traveling in our trailer. This cabin has been in the Portice family since the 1960's. We are both Colorado natives and will be happy to answer any questions you have about the state
Karen Portice purchased this cabin in 1962
Beautiful riverfront lot.
The cabin was as described. Nice and right on the river and only 2 miles from Bailey. Lots of hummingbirds, a large visit from a fox and a huge deer and plenty of rabbits and chipmunks Lots of hiking to drive to, but nothing to hike to directly from the cabin. We asked if it was quiet, and was told that it was pretty quiet. However, you can see & hear traffic on Rt 285 which is a very busy highway and only about 200-300 yards from the cabin. You can not walk on the road [Rt 285] and occasionally traffic was backed up and stopped. We did enjoy our stay.
This was our first family vacation in about 8 years so you can imagine it was really needed! The cabin was well appointed and very comfortable. There was lots of natural sunlight and yet the cabin was nicely nestled in the trees and having the creek flowing behind it was just a dream. There is something so relaxing about the sound of running water! We brought our 140 lb Great Dane, Bailey, with us and she had a blast as well - thanks so much to the Portice family for allowing us to bring this very important member of our family too!
The cabin was very spacious and the furniture comfortable. And while we really enjoy being outside it was also nice to watch a TV show or two on DirectTV. My only complaint ( and this is indeed a minor thing) was the internet. My job requires me to stay plugged in and be able to monitor emails and make the occasional response, even on vacation. I think the previous guests had used the data allotment for the month, as the on-sight internet was very slow. Normally this would not be a problem except my cell coverage with Verizon was not very good where we were and I could not access my personal data either. For most people I think this might even be a plus as they have a ready excuse for staying un-plugged (which is why most of us go on vacation in the first place)! Aside from that, you really can't go wrong in staying here.
Would I come back and vacation here again? Oh , yes! Actually, I think it would be a blast to be here in the winter too. My sincere thanks to the Portice family for sharing such a wonderful place with the rest of us, as this is a true gem.
This is an awesome place to have a family vacation! You can hang out at the property and enjoy its many amenities and activities, like fishing, or use this as a perfect central location to go to RMNP, Breckenridge, see a show at Red Rocks amphitheater, or any of the other endless fun things to do and see all within day trip driving range... We did both!... I would recommend this rental to anyone who wants to have a great time at a more than generous price!
Can't say enough about how great our experience was. The home is beautiful and Karen was great to work with. We Took our adult children and our 3 yr old grand baby, it was perfect. The river is literally right outside the door and the hummingbirds were so entertaining. Beautiful drives to Colorado Springs and Denver if you want to do the "touristy things" Also fun to just hang around the house. Has a great fire pit that we used several night to make S'mores. We can't wait to go back!!!
We thoroughly enjoyed our week at the Portice cabin. My husband said it was a "picture perfect" setting. The sounds of the river can be heard throughout the property. We found the cabin comfortable, semi-secluded, and just as described. The Colorado weather was a welcome relief from the Tennessee summer humidity. We ate dinner at the Riverbend Restaurant which is located just a few miles away in Bailey. The owners went above and beyond to accommodate our stay. I would highly recommend this cabin.
The location is very centrally located to so many scenic drives in the area and they have maps and books throughout the cabin to help plan your outings. We took several day trips that included Mt. Evans, Rocky Mountain National Park, and Georgetown by way of Guanella Pass. The property is absolutely beautiful and the little touches, such as the fully equipped kitchen (even down to a food processor and coffee grinder) made our stay such a pleasure. Waking to the sound of the river, the daily dance of the hummingbirds, the visits from the rabbits and foxes...what a tiny piece of heaven to be blessed to have if only for a week. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to go back soon. Thank you Karen and Pat for sharing your home.
