|Minimum Stay||7 nights|
4 bedroom 1.5 bath home on a 2 acre lot with expansive views of the water and 195 feet of water front. Private beach and boat dock. The water off the beach is shallow and is perfect for small children. Great water for water skiing, wake boarding, kayaking and canoeing. Close proximity by boat is a local marina that has a restaurant and gas. The property is located just 15 minutes to Sandpoint, but you won't want to go into town after you settle in.
We stayed here last year - I have been meaning to write a review for quite some time now!
When we arrived, we loved the location of the house. The neighbourhood in which it is located is beautiful, and quaint. The neighbours themselves were very nice. The sandy beach on the property is the reason we were drawn to the house in the first place. We came with another couple, and both of our kids were under 3 at the time so the beach was perfect that we didn't have to pack up the car with the floaties, chairs, or sand toys!
There were a few disapointments, however. The cleanliness of the kitchen put us off. The cutlery and dishes were dirty. We thought maybe the dishwasher wasn't working well. So we handwashed everything the day we arrived. After the first dinner, we used the dishwasher and it worked fine. I have a feeling the previous tenants didn't wash the dishes. There was white dog hair everywhere - including the upstairs level and on the furniture, and the floors were filthy! Thankfully, there was a closet that housed a vaccuum and some cleaning supplies. I vaccuumed the entire house and washed the floors the first day we were there as well (the mop was almost black!) and also before we left, as we didn't know whether or not there was a cleaning service tending to the house inbetween guests because of the condition it was left in when we arrived. The group ended up purchasing pillows from Walmart for everyone, as the beds and pillows were less than desirable. We actually ended up leaving a day early due to the uncomfortable beds!
The outdoor space was nice and there was enough room for all 6 of us inside the house. And as mentioned above, the little beach on the property was great.
We had an good time at this home on the river-the views of the river and the mountains are wonderful. The home itself is comfortable and we had everything we needed in the kitchen to cook well for the week. There is nice space between the homes and good parking for vehicles or boat trailers.
Location is convienent to Sandpoint and Priest River-just 15 min by car. We went to the Saturday market in Sandpoint and took a chairlift ride up to the ski resort while we were there.
The negatives of this rental is that the well built dock was covered with seagull droppings and made it impossible for us to use the dock while we were there-there was no push broom or hose available to clean off the dock either. The weather was warm while we stayed there and the smell near the dock was not pleasant. The small beach could use some sand and is becoming encroached by the reeds. The property had rough grass and although it was cut before our arrival it could have been trimmed again.
We had a lovely week on Lake Pend Oreille taking full advantage of the waterfront location and spending a lot of time on the dock, in the water and on the patio enjoying the view and the breeze. We were a party of 7 with one canoe; the owners were kind enough to leave a second canoe and a kayak on shore for our use as well. (Note: my husband did get pulled over by the local "water" sheriff for not having his life jacket, whistle and invasive species sticker on the kayak. He was let off with a warning.)
The location was wonderful - 15 minutes from Sandpoint, ID, with lots of room between the neighbors but wonderful neighbors as well. If you're not on the dock the seagulls will take over and you'll need to scrub the deck before using again. The house was clean and airy with most of what we needed. I believe the owners are new to "VRBO" and I would suggest a "welcome" kit which include instructions about how to take care of the garbage and figuring out how to give guests access to the washer and dryer. Other than that - no complaints. We loved our stay, the accommodations, the view and the water. Grandpa and an old, but beloved, dog enjoyed the gentle slope to the water (no stairs to encumber either.)
Sandpoint is near Schweitzer ski area which offers summer activities: a zip line, chairlift access, hiking, and a mountain music festival. Sandpoint has an amazing Sat. farmer's market and if you rent a motor boat on the south side of the Sandpoint Bridge you get an 8-hour rental for the price of a 4-hour rental in town.
