About Suzy Taylor
I am an interior designer/magazine editor and worked in NYC. When I started to paint seriously I moved to CT in order to have time and space to paint. I moved to SMA in 2007 to put it all together in my gallery which has my paintings and my custom furniture. I have always designed every aspect of the place which was an interesting challenge in Mexico. I used to own the property next door but I recently decided to go 'up' to get the light and views so divided the property and built my house above the gallery and the penthouse with its terraces above that.
Suzy Taylor purchased this Hotel Suites in 2005
Why Suzy Taylor chose Zona Centro
When I bought this property it was a vacant lot. I liked the location though admittedly it is better for living than for the gallery since it is a bit off the beaten path. The first level is a gallery and studio. The gallery (named the Arroyo Gallery) contains my original paintings, custom furniture and some clothing. My house is the second level and the penthouse is the third. The light and views improve as you go further up. It has everything I need all in one space and it is an extremely pleasant place to live! The area is quiet since it is on a walkway. The view goes to the churches with mainly trees between here and there. The walkway itself is now called the 'Pasada de la Paz' or 'The walkway of peace.' and has gardens, murals, mosaics, etc all along it. but half a block away past this walkway is the major street with taxis, restaurants and shops. The center of town is four blocks away. The Instituto is a block in the other direction. It's all here and you don't need to drive.
What makes this Hotel Suites unique
My walkway is so close to everything but it is quiet. This is a noisy town with fireworks, church bells, traffic, etc. I get the sound of many singing birds in the early morning. I do get the church bells but they are not close enough to be a bother. They are lovely. The fireworks can be seen but are rarely close enough to be considered noisy. Again, being by an open area, many hot air balloons go overhead in the early morning. You can hear their 'whoosh' and go outside and look up into them. In the mornings and evenings you can watch flocks of birds coming and going. Some circle the Parroquia on their way. Since there are only trees between here and the churches, there is no need for curtains. Privacy is not an issue. It is unusual to get a private view and quiet while being close to everything. With the windows and skylights it does get morning light which I personally adore. (I do provide eyeshades for those who don't love it or have the occasional late night out and want to avoid it the next day.) Lifepath, a wellness center, is next door and provides health services and classes. The only noise from there is an occasional 'ohmmmmm' from the yoga instructor.

The loft is located in a great location, walking distance to everything. The unit is small, but the terrace makes up for this. Our only complaint is that there is no way to darken the room at night, as there are no window coverings. Would love to stay again.
Unfortunately always an issue for people coming for destination weddings which keep them out late. I do provide eye masks.
It's a choice of the view or 5 pairs of curtains that interrupt it. At night the only real light outside is the lit domes and steeples of the churches. Most people like that and they do turn them off around 3. However one neighbor has outside lights that can be bothersome. They're usually not on, but I can't control that. I'm assuming that happened here.
The area outside the bedroom has a roof which keeps direct sun out. However I believe there was a full moon at this time and it can produce quite a bit of light. It can also come in the skylights. Curtains wouldn't help that.
I tend to assume people will notice that there are no curtains in the many photos. Given the varying heights of the windows plus one door, curtains would be very difficult.. I would need 5 pairs..
Perfect gem of an apartment...
Great location and perfect gem of an apartment. It's a little small, but the outside sitting area makes up for the size of the room inside. There's not much room for your clothes but we made do. It's very clean and comfortable with maid service everyday. Suzy, the owner was helpful with suggestions of where to go. We'd highly recommend it!
Beautiful Indoor/Outdoor Space
Suzy was a gracious hostess in this wonderful apartment. I appreciated the fireplace on cool nights and airy windows and fans on warmer days. The kitchen was perfect for cooking breakfast and reheating leftovers but I ate most lunches and dinners out at the plentiful nearby, affordable restaurants. Close to Instituto Allende and about a 15-minute walk to the center of town (or an inexpensive taxi ride). Daily housekeeping was unexpected and appreciated. The indoor space is cozy but is made up for by 2 connected covered and open patios. You do have to carry your bags up 3 flights of stairs so you may want to pack lighter than I did. Try the red pozole at Victoria’s, about 2 blocks away, and yoga at LifePath right next door. I look forward to staying here again.
Enjoyed having you! Just need to mention you were on the third floor but that means 2 stairways and not three. Don't want to scare people.
Comfortable, private and well appointed.
Beautiful well appointed rooftop studio with a nice view of the church...very clean and comfortable. Suzy made us feel welcome and took good care of us.
Perfect in every way
My husband and I came to SMA for a 5-day vacation. Suzy’s place was perfect - spotless, bright, well-located and stunning with the rooftop terrace. It felt like our own private getaway. We also liked the fact it was very quiet yet close enough to the action. Would definitely come back to Suzy’s place.
Wonderful apartment and great location. Loved being able to sit outside with coffee/wine and views!
Nearly perfect. The apartment felt like home and sitting outside on the patio in the morning with coffee and the afternoon with wine to take in the city was just what we wanted. The views were a real plus and the location was perfect. Short walk - albeit all uphill - to the center of town and yet a very quiet spot away from the hustle and bustle. Loved San Miguel and can’t wait to return.
I highly recommend using Cacomixtle for outdoor activities and a tour of Guanajuato. Suzanna, the owner, is a real treasure.
SMA has many festivals and most are accompanied by fireworks displays in the jardin. The view of the fireworks from here is spectacular- and no crowds!
