Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday apartment in Mid-City - Charming Mid City Home

2B/1.5B apt, 2 blocks from the main streetcar line

This is a classic New Orleans shot gun home. It has tall ceilings and hardwood floors throughout and ends with a sun room that overlooks a private courtyard. The sun room is a great room for drinking your coffee in the morning and getting a beautiful start to your day. It has wall-to-wall windows and plush seating, which makes it a very cozy space. The apartment is also well equipped with everything that you'll need to have the most comfortable stay; from coffee to shampoo to extra pillows. There are two bedrooms with Queen size beds, and each has a large closet for you to store your things while you stay. There's an office that has a desk, bookcase full of books for you to peruse, and a comfy, pillow-top futon which makes the office also function as a 3rd bedroom. One of the bedrooms has its own private half-bath! The living room has a flat screen tv that is wi-fi enabled, and plugged into Netflix and Amazon Prime for your viewing pleasure. Though I doubt you came to New Orleans to watch tv.

There's one off-street parking spot in front of the apartment. This is an upstairs apartment, which provides evermore privacy.

It's also conveniently located in historic Mid City. There are hip restaurants and bars within walking distance. The streetcar is 2 blocks away, and you can bike to any part of town from here. We're right off of the Endymion route! You can walk to Jazz Fest and Voodoo Fest from here (we do, and it's a nice walk on the bayou to the fests). You can also walk to City Park to hang out, or to go one of the many festivals that happen there or the New Orleans Museum of Art or to Morning Call at any time of the day for a classic beignet and cafe au lait. There are many great things in City Park. If you need something from the grocery, we're very close to a Whole Foods and Rouses (local chain).

I live next door in the other apartment. If there's anything that you need I'm just a knock away. Otherwise, I understand that this is your vacation, so please enjoy yourself! We look forward to hosting you in New Orleans!

1. Please note that any tentative reservations will only be held for 24 hours. In order to confirm a reservation you must pay for the reservation. The quickest way to pay for a reservation is to press the 'Book it Now' button on this page, and then I'll send you back a payment request. Otherwise, you can get in touch with me, I'll send you a quote (which will be the same as it says already in your vrbo for the requested dates), then send you a payment request. If the payment request goes unanswered for 24 hours, the reservation will be cancelled.

2. There's a reserved parking spot for the apartment right in front of the apartment itself.

3. I don't have a problem with an early check in, so long as someone is not checking out the same day you're checking in. This insures the housekeeper has enough time to clean before your arrived. Please first get in touch with me if you want to check in early.

4. There is absolutely no smoking allowed in the house. The sun room is a part of the house, so there is no smoking allowed in there as well, even if you open the window and lean out of it. No smoking allowed.

5. There are no pets allowed on the property.

6. The nearest place to eat is Ruby Slipper, and then Mandina's. Ruby Slipper is an excellent choice for breakfast or lunch.

About Katrina Andry

I'm a local artist who was born and raised in New Orleans. I show around town, and when I'm not showing I'm doing graphic design for a boutique design shop uptown. In my spare time I love tackling DIY projects, sewing, knitting, riding my bike to City Park and along the Lakefront, and also hanging with friends for a happy hour in the neighborhood. This is New Orleans, so I obviously love to eat and can always help you find something that suits your palette.

When I moved back to New Orleans, I knew I wanted to live in Mid City. It's a great place to live. I love my neighborhood.

Katrina Andry purchased this apartment in 2012

Why Katrina Andry chose Mid City

Before I bought this home I lived nearby in the same neighborhood for a few years, and I loved my neighborhood. I knew when I started looking for a home, it would be in this exact same neighborhood. It's just so conveniently located. I never have to get on the highway and can be uptown, downtown and the French Quarter under 15 minutes. You can bike everywhere if you wanted to. And being right off of Carrollton and Canal, there are many great amenities in the neighborhood and many more opening on what seems like a daily basis. I also chose this home for it's proximity to City Park. I love to ride my bike and walk. It's such a great way to unwind. Being close to the bayou and the park means that I can take advantage of the trails and being close to the water. Having all of the amenities of a busy city block and then also tons of green space is a win win and I love it.

What makes this apartment unique

I chose this property during my search because of it's charm. I'm all about the charm. It has the transoms, the history, the tall ceilings...the charm. I'm an artist, so beautiful spaces mean a lot to me.

Excellent stay!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for the weekend to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday and the property was super adorable. Plenty of room for the 4 of us as well as plenty of privacy. Katrina was also great, she even helped me with a little surprise for my boyfriend! Having a reserved parking place was also a huge plus. Overall great experience

Memphis area

Sparse and hot

  • 2 of 5

I've rented several times on VRBO but this was my least enjoyable rental to-date. Katrina and James were very responsive to email and text and James even came over and tightened the shower head but the property itself is not exactly what I thought it would be. Given we did visit NOLA in July but the home was never under 85 degrees in the day even when we shut off rooms in the house. Two window units never cooled the living area or the kitchen - the sun room was practically useless given the heat and lack of air conditioning. We did travel with a 6 year-old and taking a break from NOLA mid-day was an absolute necessity - unfortunately our mid-day breaks were rather uncomfortable and hot. We typically stay local so we knew exactly what to expect with a "shot-gun" style rental but still this was a disappointment. Most of the doors were grubby and the paint needed a refresher, the comforters and sheets were made from synthetic materials and were not conducive to the NOLA summer heat, and the furniture was cheap and stained. Again - Katrina and James were wonderful and the location is close enough to the trolley line that there is no need to have a car but this is probably a better rental for college students or those who enjoy the hostel setting.

Owner's Response: I am sorry that you feel like the home wasn't comfortable for you. I can say the photos accurately depict the set up of the home, and that maybe your taste in decor is different from my own. The pillow top beds are covered with microfiber sheets, a hypoallergenic down comforter that's covered with a cotton duvet - nothing synthetic. I did work with you in changing the original dates of your stay, which then had y'all coming in July. July is the hottest month of the year in New Orleans, and this is the hottest July on record with heat indexes reaching 114 degrees. I did my usual walk through of the apartment before y'all arrived, and while the temperature did register as being in the 70s during the hottest part of the day, it was by no means uncomfortable. The sun room is essentially a built-in porch in the back of the house, and should be not expected to be same temperature as the rest of the home. It's easy to tell that from the photos of the sun room. I'm glad that y'all enjoyed the location of the home, as it is convenient to many points of interest in the city, as well as right by the street car. We normally host older couples and families. Many of them are very familiar with the city, and the neighborhood. We rarely, if ever, host college kids. I would never compare our home to a hostel, and people can easily see from the photos and from other reviews that we've received that this home is nothing like a hostel. This is an authentic, historic, shot gun home with all of the charm that an older home has to offer. We live directly next door with two infants, the same set up as the apartment y'all stayed in, and we are very comfortable.

First time visitor to New Orleans

  • 5 of 5

My daughters and I traveled to New Orleans for our first visit - but this will not be our last! We love the city! Our travel style is to find one special thing to do each day, and to spend the rest of the day exploring. The trolly goes out to the sculpture gardens, downtown, or over to the Garden District, and one night we rode the trolly from one end to the other just to relax and look out at this amazing city. For tours, I recommend getting them through Groupon to save loads of money that you can then use eating and drinking! We bought a 5-day trolley pass for $15, and then all you need to do is show the trolly driver the daily code on your phone. We used Uber to get to and from the airport. The apartment itself is so cute. We loved the wood floors, the colors in each room, and the arty style of everything. Katrina provided plenty of coffee and a french press for making it so we were in heaven over that. The beds are comfy and each room has ice cold air so sleeping was nice. The closets are roomy and the living room was great. It was our command center where we organized our trips. The neighborhood was very quiet and felt safe to us. We recommend the Ruby Slipper or the Canal Street Bistro for brunch - both are in walking distance. Katrina was the perfect hostess and we hope to return here again.

Good location. Good value

  • 3 of 5

This house was a great location for our first visit to NOLA! We stayed with our adult daughter so the 2 full bedrooms was perfect. You could fit another person into the den but really no more than 4 people. Having the half bath was a big plus too. The owners are close by and Katrina assisted us when we arrived with the wifi set up and restaurant recommendations. :) The streetcar was just a few blocks away which made it super convenient to get to both ends of the city. We were there in mid May and it was already hot so we were glad that the window a/c units kept it cool and comfortable. I felt like I was staying with friends. A few additional amenities would have made our stay even better. There weren't enough hooks in the bathrooms to hang towels, etc. No exhaust fans in the bathrooms either. The kitchen was fully equipped with toaster, coffeemaker, pots, pans, dishes and silverware and some food/seasoning basics but no dish towels or pot holders. I found some rags in the closet to use. Although there was a TV, there was no guide as to which channels were available and how to use it. Not that we came to NOLA to sit inside and watch television but when we wanted to find CNN or news, we didn't know what was what. The porch was unusable since it was so hot. NO a/c out there, just a ceiling fan. That was unfortunate. The planters on the front balcony could use some love - that would really add curb appeal. Overall though, a good stay.

Owner's Response: I regret that you didn't find the home as suitable as you would've liked. Other guests have consistently given us a 5 star rating. I appreciate the tips on what would've made your trip more enjoyable, especially about pot holders. After the arrival of our newborn twins, the plants got a little less love, but I do feel that the look and feel of our home has a lot of character, inside and out, plants or no plants. Our home is a quintessential New Orleans home. We appreciate you and your husband staying with us during your trip to New Orleans.

Great location 2 blocks from Trolley easy access for french quarter

  • 4 of 5

Stayed here for Jazz Fest. Trolley close so can ride either to French quarter or close to Jazz Fest. It is within walking distance of a couple great bars and restaurants. Ruby Slipper was our favorite for breakfast. Not only do you get a nice feel of local New Orleans, but the place itself is clean and comfortable. It really does feel like a home away from home. Would stay here again on a trip to New Orleans!!! Good queen beds to sleep in.

Nearest Airport
12 Miles

There are numerous eateries in the area as well as a walking trail nearby. When the weather is nice, it's lovely to take a walk on the Bayou and get a sno-ball at Pandora's. There's a breakfast spot, Ruby Slipper, within walking distance and it's not to be missed if you stay here.
