About the property

2B/1.5B apt, 2 blocks from the main streetcar line

This is a classic New Orleans shot gun home. It has tall ceilings and hardwood floors throughout and ends with a sun room that overlooks a private courtyard. The sun room is a great room for drinking your coffee in the morning and getting a beautiful start to your day. It has wall-to-wall windows and plush seating, which makes it a very cozy space. The apartment is also well equipped with everything that you'll need to have the most comfortable stay; from coffee to shampoo to extra pillows. There are two bedrooms with Queen size beds, and each has a large closet for you to store your things while you stay. There's an office that has a desk, bookcase full of books for you to peruse, and a comfy, pillow-top futon which makes the office also function as a 3rd bedroom. One of the bedrooms has its own private half-bath! The living room has a flat screen tv that is wi-fi enabled, and plugged into Netflix and Amazon Prime for your viewing pleasure. Though I doubt you came to New Orleans to watch tv.

There's one off-street parking spot in front of the apartment. This is an upstairs apartment, which provides evermore privacy.

It's also conveniently located in historic Mid City. There are hip restaurants and bars within walking distance. The streetcar is 2 blocks away, and you can bike to any part of town from here. We're right off of the Endymion route! You can walk to Jazz Fest and Voodoo Fest from here (we do, and it's a nice walk on the bayou to the fests). You can also walk to City Park to hang out, or to go one of the many festivals that happen there or the New Orleans Museum of Art or to Morning Call at any time of the day for a classic beignet and cafe au lait. There are many great things in City Park. If you need something from the grocery, we're very close to a Whole Foods and Rouses (local chain).

I live next door in the other apartment. If there's anything that you need I'm just a knock away. Otherwise, I understand that this is your vacation, so please enjoy yourself! We look forward to hosting you in New Orleans!

1. Please note that any tentative reservations will only be held for 24 hours. In order to confirm a reservation you must pay for the reservation. The quickest way to pay for a reservation is to press the 'Book it Now' button on this page, and then I'll send you back a payment request. Otherwise, you can get in touch with me, I'll send you a quote (which will be the same as it says already in your vrbo for the requested dates), then send you a payment request. If the payment request goes unanswered for 24 hours, the reservation will be cancelled.

2. There's a reserved parking spot for the apartment right in front of the apartment itself.

3. I don't have a problem with an early check in, so long as someone is not checking out the same day you're checking in. This insures the housekeeper has enough time to clean before your arrived. Please first get in touch with me if you want to check in early.

4. There is absolutely no smoking allowed in the house. The sun room is a part of the house, so there is no smoking allowed in there as well, even if you open the window and lean out of it. No smoking allowed.

5. There are no pets allowed on the property.

6. The nearest place to eat is Ruby Slipper, and then Mandina's. Ruby Slipper is an excellent choice for breakfast or lunch.

About Katrina Andry

I'm a local artist who was born and raised in New Orleans. I show around town, and when I'm not showing I'm doing graphic design for a boutique design shop uptown. In my spare time I love tackling DIY projects, sewing, knitting, riding my bike to City Park and along the Lakefront, and also hanging with friends for a happy hour in the neighborhood. This is New Orleans, so I obviously love to eat and can always help you find something that suits your palette.

When I moved back to New Orleans, I knew I wanted to live in Mid City. It's a great place to live. I love my neighborhood.

Katrina Andry purchased this apartment in 2012

Why Katrina Andry chose Mid City

Before I bought this home I lived nearby in the same neighborhood for a few years, and I loved my neighborhood. I knew when I started looking for a home, it would be in this exact same neighborhood. It's just so conveniently located. I never have to get on the highway and can be uptown, downtown and the French Quarter under 15 minutes. You can bike everywhere if you wanted to. And being right off of Carrollton and Canal, there are many great amenities in the neighborhood and many more opening on what seems like a daily basis. I also chose this home for it's proximity to City Park. I love to ride my bike and walk. It's such a great way to unwind. Being close to the bayou and the park means that I can take advantage of the trails and being close to the water. Having all of the amenities of a busy city block and then also tons of green space is a win win and I love it.

What makes this apartment unique

I chose this property during my search because of it's charm. I'm all about the charm. It has the transoms, the history, the tall ceilings...the charm. I'm an artist, so beautiful spaces mean a lot to me.

Great neighborhood and central location

  • 5 of 5

This was our 2nd stay at this property and it was just as enjoyable as the last. We love the neighborhood and the ability to walk to several great restaurants (Mandina's, Canal St Bistro, Katie's, Biscuits & Buns, Ruby Slipper) as well as the Canal streetcar line to City Park, the cemeteries, or the French Quarter/downtown. If you are planning to use the streetcar and/or bus system while you visit, download the RTA app and purchase the day pass - $3 for one day, $9 for three days, and $15 for five days - simply click your ticket in the app and show it to the driver when you board. The app also has route info and trip tools that make getting around really simple.

Great location! Plenty of room!

Loved being 2 blocks from Canal Street streetcar which can get you to Bourbon Street and St. Charles Street Trolley (Garden District). Quiet neighborhood. Quaint. Great local scene. Perfect for when you need a break from Bourbon Street.

Very basic budget place to stay

  • 3 of 5

We stayed here with our two young kids in March 2017. The unit is one of 4 in a house and is upstairs but was private enough. It was a very basic budget friendly place to stay but needs a deep cleaning and some basic kitchen utensils added. The wifi is also not strong in the Sun Room which is where we tried to work after kids were asleep since the unit is a railroad style apartment where you walk through rooms separated only by a door (no hallway). The private back patio was not usable (just an old chiminea and a dirty tarp) but it was so close to the Jeff Davis greenbelt that it didn't matter. The house is conveniently located near the Canal St Streetcar and walking distance to playgrounds and several good restaurants (Bayou Wine Garden was our favorite). All in all we wouldn't stay here again but it is an easy jumping off point if you re just looking for a place to lay your head!

Owner's Response: Hi there. I would like to note that the home is professionally cleaned after every stay (fans cleaned, laundry, sills, floors, doors, etc) by a hired, professional cleaning person. The house is itself is 80 years old, and the part of the charm and character of an older home is that not everything is new and polished, but undoubtedly everything is clean. The back patio is used by many of our guests (and those with children). We live on the other side of the home, and our children use the back patio relegated to our side of the backyard as well, to play, and to get some fresh air in an enclosed space. We also bbq back there, and there's an overhang that keeps you dry in case it rains. As far as the tarp, it must've blown into our yard before you arrived, and we didn't notice it from our side. I will remove it. The house is a common shot-gun style that can be found all over New Orleans. I think we had discussed this before you arrived. The kitchen to our knowledge (unless some things have walked out somehow) is fully stocked with pots, pans, cutlery, plates, bowls, mugs, cups, spices, etc. If there was something missing that you would've liked, then I wish you would've reached out to us. We had already established communication, as I let you use a pack-and-play for your baby that we had so that you wouldn't have to travel with one. I even went looking for a misplaced wallet that one of the people you traveled with lost. Communication with my husband or I would've solved a majority of your grievances. Our home is not a hostel, and is more than a place to just lay your head. We treasure our home. Not only is it a traditional New Orleans style home, but it also feels like "home". And it's a bonus that this home-away-from-home our guests come to is so conveniently located to many points of interest in the city.

There are numerous eateries in the area as well as a walking trail nearby. When the weather is nice, it's lovely to take a walk on the Bayou and get a sno-ball at Pandora's. There's a breakfast spot, Ruby Slipper, within walking distance and it's not to be missed if you stay here.
