This newly remodeled ground floor oceanfront unit has 2 bedrooms and 2 baths. A lanai that is steps to the beach. New flooring throughout, new bathrooms and granite counters. The master suite has a king size bed and the 2nd bedroom is masterfully decorated with a queen-sized bed. The living room has a queen sofa sleeper so this unit fits 6 people comfortably! Enjoy cooking in a fully equipped kitchen with all new appliances. Located in the heart of Kapaa town, Pono Kai Resort is walking distance to shops, restaurants and groceries! The resort's amenities include a swimming pool, Jacuzzi, 2 saunas, a workout studio, shuffleboard, putting greens, concierge services and more!

Our condo has an unobstructed view of the ocean with flow through ocean breezes. Each room has a 52" ceiling fan. The large, noisy AC units are installed on the lanais, and spoil the serenity, which is why we do not have AC!

Numerous beaches within a 10-15 minute drive from this unit! Only 20 minutes away to the beautiful Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge, 35 minutes to the beautiful Hanalei Bay both on the northshore. If you want to hit the sunny side of the island, its only a 45 minute (or less) drive to the south!

About John Strizver

This condo was purchased by my Dad as a place he could gather his family to make those memories that last a lifetime and beyond. My Dad was very instumental in making the Pono Kai into the destination it is today. He served on the Board of Directors, and his contributions are remembered by the Association with a palm tree dedicated to his memory on the lanai side of the F building. TA-1909354496-01; GE-1909354496-01

My family has built our own memories in Kauai using the Pono Kai as our home. Our sons are now making their own trips, taking friends that need to experience what Kauai has to offer.

Property was amazing! Beautiful views!

There just needs to be clarification for the resort itself because upon arriving they didn't have any info for us on how to access our key pad for the condo. That was a disappointing way to start the trip being locked out, but after that everything was great! Very nice condo, with amazing view of the beach.

Surprisingly great

You get what you pay for at Pono Kai. Some rooms are cheaper, but are unrenovated and have older furniture and appliances. Some rooms cost more, but have upgrades. This room was awesome all around, had a great view of the ocean, and an ocean view patio for breakfast. I'd recommend this room to anyone. No air condition, but no noise from the air conditioner either. And the breeze and fans kept the place cool if windows and blinds were managed. Note to the owner, the light and fan above the kitchen table did not work and the breaker switch seemed on.

We still loved your place though!!!!

Even so, given the proximity to the salt air, sometimes things happen, as in the case of the switch. Both the light & fan were fixed, and a new switch was installed. Thank you for letting me know, and I apologize for the inconvenience. Your comment about the noise is one of the main reasons my Dad never installed AC in our two units. And another - if the AC is on, the doors & windows are closed, and you miss the ocean sounds! Thank you so much for your stay, and please contact me for your next visit to the island. Mahalo, John

Very Nice !!

Beautiful condo 20 yards from the water. There is a small beach about 100 yards up the way. Since we were here during winter months it was pretty windy most of the time so our beach time was spent in Poipu. Pretty much anything you might need that is not off a personal nature exists here, beach towels, ice chest for excursions, 2 sets of adult swim fins and one set for kids, no masks or snorkels. Kitchen is well equipped. The K-cup coffee maker does not work however. There is a regular coffee pot. The grounds at Kono Pai are beautifully maintained by wonderful staff people. There are many BBQ's around the grounds for that type of cooking. I would stay here again as it seems to be a centrally located spot for all other island activities and the town of Kapaa is within yards with several restaurants and other shopping.

Beautiful Ocean Sunrises!

We spent two wonderful weeks exploring Kauai with this condo as our base. It was ideal for two couples. We switched between the two bedrooms halfway through our stay so each couple had a chance to enjoy the master bedroom which looked out on the ocean.

The condo is very nice, well appointed, comfortable, and reasonably well cleaned and maintained. The beds and pillows were comfortable. There is no air conditioning. What makes it bearable are the fans and constant ocean breeze, which was quite brisk at times. If you love the sound of the ocean waves and the trade winds, you can get your fill here. The sunrises viewed from the lanai with a cup of fresh Kauai coffee were wonderful.

The condo is on the ground floor so you can walk right from your lanai out to the edge of the ocean. We enjoyed walking the beach walk which goes for long distances in either direction. We did not walk it after dark due to the number of homeless people that stay along the beach in several areas nearby, although we never encountered any problems in that regard.

There was considerable noise from the upstairs apartment at times, and when they flushed the toilet it sounded like a waterfall, but this proved a minor inconvenience as it was only occupied about four days during out stay. Another minor negative was the weak Wi-Fi reception; none of our devices were able to connect very well from within the condo. Reception proved to be best on the lanai.

The resort complex itself was nice and well groomed. It carries a 2 to 2-1/2 star rating on the internet hotel sites, so it is not an upscale resort. It appears to be largely vacation rentals and fractional ownership condos. There was ample parking and it was free. Traffic in the area is often bumper to bumper during several periods of the day.

There was plenty to do and see on the island. The Smith Family Luau was great. The Ono Family Restaurant next to the resort was a great place for breakfast and lunch, and they also had wonderful shave ices. We greatly enjoyed the farmers markets where we purchased fresh fruits and produce.

All in all, it was an excellent stay and good value for the cost when shared by two couples.

Great place, great location

We spent 10 days in this condo and had a fabulous time there. The view from the living room/kitchen is breathtaking - right on the ocean. We etched the sunrise with a nice cup of coffee right from the living room or terrace several times. The condo has everything you need and it seems it has recently been remodelled, very tastefully. The kitchen is well equipped. We also enjoyed being able to sit and have meals on the covered terrace. It was generally very windy and sometimes rained while we were there, but the terrace is sheltered and not nearly as windy as the rest of the units in this building. Generally, Kapaa is an ideal location for people who want to explore the island, because it's in the middle between North and South. Swimming on this side, though, was not always possibly because of the high waves and strong surf. We loved it and will hopefully be back.
