Looking for a great home to stay while visiting Omaha/Council Bluffs? Close to the interstate, just 4 miles from Omaha's Zoo, TD Ameritrade, century Link and the Old Market. Located on the iowa side in a quiet neighborhood with dog park and a park for the kids in walking distance. Home features brand new custom kitchen with granite counters and stainless appliances and tile back splash. Private fenced backyard with large deck. Enclosed front porch, large bedrooms, office, dinning area, living area. Everything you need to enjoy your home away from home.
Our family is currently living in Pennsylvania, this is our home away from home.
Carrie purchased this house in 2012
This home is our forever home, we purchased this home because of the charming neighborhood. Walking distance to parks and located in quiet well established neighborhood. We have the best of both worlds, lots of wildlife, yet still in the city but on a quiet street close to the interstate, shopping and everything in between.
I fell in love with our home the moment I stepped foot in the living room. The main floor features an open concept with access to almost anywhere in the house. The enclosed front porch is a nice feature (weather permitting) you will find french doors that open from the porch to the living room. If you enjoy the outdoors and the smell of fresh air you will enjoy that on a nice spring/fall day. We have brand new custom kitchen off the dinning room that's fully stocked with everything you will need to cook/grill or even entertain for guests. All brand new top of the line appliances along with one of my favorite things is the farmhouse sink! The backyard is a private fenced backyard with a large deck furnished with a patio set, charcoal grill and a fire pit. While sitting on the patio you might hear or see some deer and other small wildlife. The basement is strictly used for laundry only, it's just a normal unfinished basement with a washer/dryer. The home does have a brand new furnace and A/C unit so no worries when it comes to being comfortable.
We were visiting there with our family and 4 kids. They loved the layout of the house. Felt like home. Several restaurants and shopping nearby. We were there for Ragbrai and was a perfect location for us. Neighbor is very nice also, my daughter noticed that she feeds the stray cats and got to pet one of them. Owner was very responsive to questions.
We stayed here for the Olympic Swim Trials and it served it purpose for the time we spent there. The kitchen is beautiful but pretty sparse on utensils and the top dishwasher rack is broken. We were preheating the oven one night when smoke started billowing out of it - someone before us had used it and a large amount of food had boiled over to the bottom of the oven that was never clean. The rental description said there is a small grill available to use but had recently been removed (and not replaced) before we arrived. There is no wifi in the house which would be a great addition (one part of the rental description says there is wifi but another part states there isn't).
Carrie is great to work with but she may need a new cleaning service. There was a drawer in the master bedroom dresser that was full of women's undergarments when we arrived. We figured they were left by the people before us and contacted Carrie via email while there. She replied quickly saying the cleaning lady would be by later in the day to clean the drawer out but the garments were still there at the end of our week stay. There is also a sticky spot in the middle of the living carpet that we think was from gum but, nevertheless, pretty gross.
A previous review of the TV going out when planes fly overhead is spot on. There are also only 2 or 3 stations that come in.
If you're planning to visit the area and not spend a lot of time in the house it's great for that purpose. Again, Carrie is great to work with, but some of the rental description needs to be updated.
The property is remodeled well. We enjoyed the quiet neighborhood as we were arriving late each night hot and tired from playing baseball. The bedrooms were a bit warm upstairs and fans were necessary.
We made a last-minute decision to go to Omaha for the weekend, and because our dog had to come with us, our lodging options were limited. Carrie was very accommodating in this regard (with an additional pet fee.) We arrived Thursday night and found that either the pictures did not match the current state of the house.
The kitchen was nice but not "fully stocked" as the description suggests, as most drawers are empty and there were no butter knives. Minimally equipped for basic cooking needs, yes. The ice maker in the freezer door of the fridge did not work, so we had to buy ice from the grocery store a few miles up the road. There were also dishes in the dishwasher, without any indication if they were clean or dirty.
The upstairs bathroom shower has a deep garden tub and greater water pressure than downstairs. Unfortunately, the window covering was extremely sheer and lacked privacy to the neighboring house. The bedroom windows all had sheer blinds--or sheets, instead of the pictured white shades in the blue bedroom--so the daylight woke everyone up pretty early each day. Note: bring your own pillows.
While we knew there was no Internet inside the house, and only local stations were available, this led to issues Friday night as severe thunderstorms rolled into the area and we could not track them. We did not get a strong cell signal inside, and small antennae on the LR TV could not bring in a station while it was raining. The TV signal also froze every time a plane flew overhead, which was frequently -- this house is under the flight path of Eppley Airfield.
Fairmount Park is directly north of the house, although the roads within the park are narrow and winding, making driving to the splash pad a safety requirement. We could find no indication of a dog park.
Did this house work as a place to stay? Absolutely. It was nice not to hear people running up and down the halls of a hotel. But I had expectations based on the pictures and descriptions provided, and when reality did not meet expectations, we were disappointed in the value we received for the money we spent to stay three nights. This house charged almost twice what other VRBOs have for cleaning (including Destin, FL and Chicago), and we've never been asked to pay a service fee. All that and the lack of other hospitality touches kept this property from getting a higher rating.
Our family with 4 young children planned on staying in this beautiful house, but a few days before leaving we had an unexpected death in the family. Needless to the say the children were disappointed, as visiting the Omaha zoo was to be our annual family vacation. Despite our refund policy being 90 days, the owner was understanding and kind enough to refund our reservation anyway without hesitation. I would recommend staying here based on the owner having these qualities. We hope to visit in the Fall!
Fairmount Park Area has some nice family friendly hiking trails, new playground & dog park. At the top of the park is a look out point that overlooks the Omaha skyline.
Your minutes from downtown Omaha or minutes from downtown Council Bluffs. Close to the interstate but off the beaten path.
Less then 10 minutes away from The Omaha Zoo, Botanical gardens, TD Ameritrade, Century Link Center, Lake Manawa Beach.
