About DIANE E FOLEY

I am a semi-retired designer contractor who was fortunate to be apart of the growing infrastructer of Dallas. In 2009, I decided to give myself the harmony of life and moved to WNC and explored this area for several years before i decided to settle down in this property.

DIANE E FOLEY purchased this cottage in 2011

Why DIANE E FOLEY chose Asheville Area

This property was unique when I purchased it and transformed it from an ugly duckling into an Alice-n-Wonderland setting...2 1/2 years in the workings....alot of creating was done to this place....you would have had to see the before and afters to really appreciate the hard work that went into this with the help of my crew that was with me all of the way.

What makes this cottage unique

The benefits of enjoying the visit here at the cottage is in so many ways. If I had to put my finger on just one feature, I would have to say the location is by far the most accommadating. I am half way between Asheville and Hendersonville just minutes from I-26 and the Asheville Airport. In either direction of Hendersonville Hwy, you can be in downtown Asheville, Biltmore estate, Lake Lure, downtown Hendersonville in just approx 15-20 min. The cottage has off street private parking with mountain views both in the front and rear of the property.

Loved my month in the garden cottage!

  • 5 of 5

I am a master's student from ECU and needed a safe, comfortable place to live while I completed a month long internship at Mission Children's Hospital. My dad found the cottage, and I just couldn't thank him enough! The house is beautifully decorated and spacious. I felt very much at home and comfortable. The gardens are amazing, and I spent many evenings relaxing or doing homework on the porch. The cottage was about 25 minutes from the hospital and it took about 20 or 30 minutes to get to most places (e.g., Downtown Asheville, Blue Ridge Parkway, Chimney Rock, Hendersonville). The cottage is surrounded by lovely mountains and the drives into town were enjoyable. Ms. Diane was a great host- so friendly and welcoming, and always willing to give driving directions and recommendations. I was very impressed by her hospitality. The afternoon before I started my internship, she led me into town and showed me the easiest route to take. I appreciate her making me feel safe and comfortable, and I would recommend the cottage to any student or traveler!

Wonderful! Gives the the feeling of being the country but in close proximity to everything.

  • 5 of 5

This was an enjoyable 2 weeks. We hated to leave. The cottage was exceptionally well equipped. Lots os pots and pans and most every kitchen and eating utility one could want.

The beauty of the garden was exquisite and pleasing for sitting outside and reading or having a glass of wine. Diane was very helpful with everything. She gave us directions and information about places to see. She is a delightful and thoughtful hostess. She went out of her way to meet our needs and be sure we had a good time.

The cottage has a wonderful country atmosphere but also is in close proximity to everywhere we wanted to go. We will go back again and hope to do it soon.

Charming and quaint little cottage near the Blue Ridge Mountains

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I and our two dogs spent a week in this very charming cottage. The pictures perfectly reflect the ambiance that you experience. Diane, the owner, is quite the gardener. Her property is lush with beautiful flowers, highlighted by whimsical appointments.

The cottage is situated about 20 minutes from Asheville in a heavily forested area in Fletcher, NC. The roads are two lane with some blind curves and it is hilly. We are guessing that it must be spectacular in the Fall. The cute town of Hendersonville is about 15 minutes away. The town of Fletcher itself is small with no restaurants of note. There is a grocery store about 10 minutes from the house and also a beautiful park. There is no grill on the premises.

The negative about the property is walkability. You can not walk on the two lane road as the traffic, albeit not a lot, moves dangerously fast. From the home, there is no place to walk. We brought our two dogs who we keep on leash and usually walk a few blocks, but do to lack of walkability, we had to use a very small area in the back of the house for their elimination. We also were asked to pay a refundable cash deposit on the dogs that was not part of the initial cost structure. We would like to suggest that all costs be stated upfront before agreeing to a rental.

The cottage lies directly behind Diane's (the owner) house. She is around to help with suggestions and directions to nearby places. The outside porch does have a nice table and sitting area. Parking is a little tricky but workable. The furniture and decor in the house are of very good quality. There is a washer/dryer. The cottage is spacious. If you are looking for a place to stay, especially for an extended length of time, near Asheville that is full of charm, this would be it.

Thank you Diane for your hospitality.

Owner's Response: Lynda: thanks for taking the time to write the review. As I like to tell guest: it is country living at it's best with mountain views infront and back. Why didn't you take the dogs to the park especially the dog park area. Or even across the street in the huge subdivision as other guest have taken their pets. Some guest even played with their dogs in the huge front yard area. There was a huge SS Grill on the deck that is for everyone's use. Sorry that you didn't ask. These comments are in my description of the property and especially discussing the additional pet deposit when our initial conversation always begin with the inquiries of reservations, that way there is no surprises when you arrive. Glad to hear you made it back to Florida safe...thanks again, and if your up this way again, that you would consider staying again here at the cottage.

Really nice, sweet cottage and area...

  • 4 of 5

I'm a German Girl and was staying for two month in Asheville with my company. For the beginning I was real skeptical if the cottage looks like the picture, but that feeling went quickly in the first minute. The cottage looks exact like the pictures. Also the area around the cottage looks really great and loving cared. For sunny minutes I could relaxed out of the terrace. The big kitchen is very well equipped. The smallish bathroom was real enough for a visit and also well equipped with towels and hairdresser. Also the available washing machine, television, wireless LAN (what worked really good) helped me to feel homely and made my visit comfortable. For short route to grocery stores, shopping stores, Asheville, Biltmore, Hendersonville, Airport and to my office has the cottage a great position. When I come again to Ashville I would rent it again. Diane was a very good and nice landlady, she has always helped me in every situation. We also got along very well with each other, even if we had problems to understood us Linguistically (German-English) :D

Thank you Diane, that I could stay in your nice and homely cottage.

good place for extended stay

  • 5 of 5

We spent two weeks here while waiting for our recently purchased house to be ready. It is a roomy cottage with all the linens and kitchen items you need. It looks just like the photos. We did find a few ants and daddy long-leg spiders. I think the owner cleaned after the previous renters, but then perhaps it was a few weeks before we arrived so the ubiquitous insects of the south, found their way back into the house. It is a former garage, not originally built as a house so the bug proofing is not as good. She asks that you keep your food trash in the freezer until trash day so as not to encourage the ants.

The Cable TV and wifi worked well. The garden/yard area is gorgeous. The owner has a very talented green thumb and it looks like a botanical garden.

She let us use her fenced yard for our dog to have some free running and pooping time as long as we okayed it with her first, so her dog wouldn't be let out. Of course, we picked up our dog's messes. There is also a wonderful park, Fletcher Park about five minutes drive from the cottage. It has miles of gravel walking trails along a beautiful creek and two fenced dog parks--one for big dogs and one for small dogs.

We ate at Blue Sky Cafe and Tasty Thai Kitchen in Fletcher. Neither are fancy (Tasty Thai is in a gas station!) but both had excellent inexpensive food. They were just a couple miles, about seven minutes drive from the cottage. There are many, many choices all within 20 minutes along Hendersonville Rd.

Diane is very friendly and helpful and if you need a place for an extended stay in this area it could be a good choice.
