I have lived on this property since early 1980's. I lived and trained in the Jackson, Mississippi area. I graduated a program and wanted to move away from home and parents, so after visiting some friends in this area, I decided it was the place for me. I met and married my husband and we lived in the cottage for 15+ years. We did some remodels, to move in and take care of the aunt that lived in the primary home on the property. This wonderful woman passed away in 1997 leaving the properties to my husband and me. My husband passed away in 2001. For many years a friend stayed in the cottage, keeping with the beach living. Hurricane Katrina came and a lot of things changed. I was blessed that there was minimal damage to my home and the cottage. The bluff, that my property is located on is one of the highest points between Apalachicola Bay, Florida and Galveston Bay, Texas. I never believed that fact prior to Hurricane Katrina, but have since become a confirmed believer. For years, the cottage was just used when friends or family came to visit. I am now a retired medical professional and have decided to try sharing my beautiful beach way of life with others.
One day, as I was looking out the kitchen window of the cottage, towards the back wall of the primary dwelling, I realized, I had seen this home and all the landscaping before. I had dreamed of this place many times since I was a young girl. Deja' Vu ...well I believe. I had such a feeling of peace. I don't know what the future holds, but I do know, at this time in my life, I am exactly where I am supposed to be.
The town and all the interesting activities are wonderful. There has been an increase in arts, shopping, and fun things to do but the thing that draws me to this area the most is...the PEOPLE. They are the friendliest I have ever run into. I have made so many friends over the years. Friends and family that come to visit have made the same discovery. People smile or speak to you as you walk down the street. Join us in 'A Place Apart'.
We really enjoyed our long weekend in your lovely cottage. It was so nice to get away for a few days. Hope to see you for, "Cruisin the Coast".
This was our second year staying at this cottage for cruisin the coast. It is walking distance to restaurants, beach, marina, shopping and cruisin activities. Very clean and comfortable. Highly recommended for any vacation year round!
This convieniently located guest house was quite cozy. The rental property backs right up to the owners personal residence with a narrow courtyard seperating the two -- could be too close for comfort for some who may prefer a little more privacy. There in fact is no private backdoor space-all shared with property owner. Only private outdoor space is front patio shown in pictures. Owners frequent this space as well to access a storage building and park the lawnmower. High security for this property to include two cameras that capture voice and video data--one camera pointing at the outdoor shower(very nice shower!!) and the other pointed at the front patio entryway. Be aware that the property shares the front lawn with a church so parking can be an issue sometimes but the owners were good to notify us in advance about these inconvieinces. Laundry room is shared space with the owners accessible via shared backdoor courtyard. Rental had everything you could need from kitchen supplies to games--takes up a good bit of limited storage space though. Can't beat proximity to beach and fun downtown activities.
This very well maintained property was everything you could want in a home away from home. Everything was clean and every detail was pristine. Nona and Kevin were the perfect hosts--very helpful but not obtrusive. If you would like a relaxing getaway in a lovely little town that is super close to New Orleans, you won't find a better choice than Life's a Beach Cottage. We drove 18 hours from Harrisburg, PA to get there and would do it again! Thank you, Nona and Kevin!
We had a very nice stay at this rental near Old Town Bay St. Louis. The house was very comfortable, clean, and inviting. The bed in the master bedroom was so comfortable we never wanted to leave! We loved the porch swing and the convenience of the beach shower near the front door. It was a nice touch to have coffee fixings ready to go in the kitchen. We didn't cook while we were there, but there was a full size fridge, stove, and dish washer for all your cooking needs. The one bathroom is HUGE and loaded with clean towels and mini soaps and shampoos. It has a roll-in shower as well -- which is a rare find on VRBO in my experience looking for rentals that could accommodate a family member in a wheelchair.
The location was great - near to the action without being in earshot of the bars. It was a very pleasant walk along the beach to all the restaurants in Old Town. As advertised, the beach is literally one house away. While sitting on the porch swing you can look out over the Bay. Very pleasant with morning coffee!
Nona and Kevin were great hosts in the house next door. Nona communicated quickly by text -- which is a plus for me because I hate talking on the phone haha! They were always available if we needed anything and even let our dog hang out in their fenced yard while we unpacked. (The house is pet friendly, but everything is so neat and nice inside you'd never know it was! I wish the rental house's big front lawn was also fenced in so we could have let our dog out without a leash, but that's okay) We would definitely stay there again on our next trip in town -- and this time we'd bring more family since the house was easily big enough for another couple or so.
Thank you for a lovely stay!
Nona was an excellent host. Greeted us when we arrived and gave us a tour. Really enjoyed the stay
This was our second stay at Nona and Kevin's home.
We will never stay anywhere else, you feel like you are a special guest.
The house is so warm and welcoming, our grandkids love it there.
Such a great location, we walked downtown for Second Saturday and dinner at the Blind Tiger.
The view of the Bay Bridge is beautiful day or night.
'Life's A Beach' Cottage is walking distance to many restaurants, shops and churches and only a short drive to local casinos, golfing, tennis, boating, bike trails antique shopping, swimming, and fishing. Take the boat to Ship Island for a nice day on the water and fun in the sun.
