Pretty home, nice furniture, quiet location, not so clean compared to the cleaning fee charge.

  • 3 of 5

This is a wonderful home in a very secluded and peaceful location. Comfortable beds and nice decor.

The television & Direct TV did not work; cables were running across the back yard on top of the ground. The fireplace is non-functioning also. The TV actually worked on our last day there after I contacted the manager about the interruption in service.

Although we were charged a generous 'cleaning fee', serious cleaning has not taken place in some time....the showers were moldy and the refrigerator had not been cleaned in a while at all. I would be embarrassed to charge a cleaning fee and not put that money to use.

Do NOT plan on accessing the internet. It's non-existent although advertised as 'hit and miss'. But, there's so much to do in the area, it's actually not a big deal.

The creek behind the home is beautiful and abundant wildlife around. We enjoyed watching football at the Rusty Shovel about 1 1/2 mile away. Great local place for pizza and burgers as opposed to the 45 minute drive to Durango.

Terrible owner/manager situation

  • 1 of 5

This is the first bad review I have written after renting dozens of times on this site.

The property is in a great location and is worth 3.5 stars. It needs a deep clean and a lot of TLC but was more than adequate for our needs. They do not provide propane for the grill (a first in all the times I've done'vacation rentals) and wi-fi didn't work once in the week we were there (they are relying on a weak repeater situation from the big house), otherwise, I'd give it 4 stars.

What makes for the 1 star review is the owner/management. From the start, their tone is adversarial so you feel more like a necessary evil instead of a welcome guest. When there are issues, do not expect the property manager to answer her phone, even when it is check-in time and you still do not have the codes (we got them 40 minutes after check-in without so much as a word of apology). And when the inaccessible smoke alarm starts chirping for a new battery, do not expect any sympathy. All you will get is "someone will be out tomorrow"and a sleepless night. It also took a month to get my (sizeable) deposit back.

I do recommend the Vallecito Lake area. It was woodsy with a lot to do nearby and close enough to Durango if you really want to go. I highly recommend the little market by the lake. The prices and selection are great. His house-made brats are AMAZING! But don't stay here or at the sister property. There are a lot of great places in the area to choose from - don't settle for bad service when you don't have to.

Owner's Response: Please take a look at all of our other reviews and form your opinion of the cabin from those as they give a much more accurate description of how my property manager conducts business. My property manager contacted me the day this renter checked into one of our properties in Vallecito, Colorado telling me that she could not deal with said renter as the renter had become extremely agitated. I called the renter to try and diffuse the situation and after quite bit of discussion I thought we had got her handled evidently I was incorrect. Here is our side of the story. The access codes are emailed to the guest 1 hour prior to check in. We used to do this 2 days prior to check in but we had a guest come one day early and thus we had to change our policy. Evidently the renter had no access to their email used to book with VRBO when they arrived to the cabin. The smoke alarm battery did go bad during the renters stay the smoke detector was located out of reach without using a step ladder to access the detector. We have step ladders on the property but the renter was unwilling to change the battery. Our handyman showed up the following day to replace the batteries in all of the smoke detectors. The Wi-Fi at the cabins due to their remote location is not great and this is stated in our VRBO description, there is no better solution offered in the area or we would have it. Propane we don’t refill the containers for the grilles at either cabin we expect the guest to replace what they use. There is currently propane available less than a 5 minute drive from either of the cabins. For the 2017 season we are having the grilles tied into the main propane supply of the cabins as not everyone takes the time to refill the tanks. The deposit refund. Deposits are typically refunded in 5-10 business days after your stay is over. We use VRBO payments for this process. This particular renter cancelled the credit card she originally paid with thus we could not refund her deposit through VRBO. We sent her a refund check through the USPS and first refund was evidently lost by the USPS and thus we sent a second check which was received. This process did take longer than what is typical. I finish with these few words. Treat everyone like you wish to be treated yourself and you find life to be much more pleasant journey.

It was totally great!

  • 5 of 5

It was totally great. The house was great. It had a big, big yard. There was water instead of a backyard it was great.

The kids swam in the great lake.

Really cool with the great AC and the internets.

Would stay again at this really great, great place!

Perfect relaxing vacation spot with plenty to do!

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was comfortable, clean, and well stocked. I heard no complaints on any of the beds. The cabin did get warm during the day with no AC but the owners advice of letting it breathe at night and closing it up in the morning did the trick. Having the creek behind the house was both convenient and soothing. The wildlife in the area, including the backyard, was abundant. We travelled all over southern CO and the only elk I saw was 5 miles away coming into the cabin! Everyone we met in the area was so pleasant! We hiked to Lake Eileen nearby (beautiful) and tried out the Hideaway Grill. All was great. Thanks for a great stay!

Very nice place

  • 5 of 5

We Had a great time. The property is 20-25 minutes outside of Durango. The wildlife is constantly moving in front of and behind the house. Great place to stay to get out in the country but still close enough to enjoy all that Durango has to offer. Will definitely stay again if available next time we come to this area. The lake has 2 good restaurants on it. A general store to pick up things you need nearby. Boat rentals at the lake are reasonable. Atv rentals are also at the lake. All you need for a place to call home for a while.
