Lorena and her little girls, bought this home, (their 1st home) in 2011. Lorena, at the time she bought the house, was finishing her Business degree through MSU Billings. She graduated in May 2013, and now is busy building her career as an entrepreneur, business owner, and sometimes wacky, out of the box, thinker (or at least her little girls think so).
Lorena was transplanted here by marriage in 2005. She is raising two little Montana girls who love horses, hiking, fishing, camping and exploring Montana - but most of all, Lorena and her girls adore this little piece of Heaven they are lucky enough to call Home. The old-time 'Grandma's House' cottage feel, the proximity to Flathead Lake, Bigfork and the surrounding area makes this the perfect place to call 'home-base' for a short stay, or even an extended stay while you explore all that NW Montana has to offer.
Lorena and the girls work each year to make home improvements and little additions to make everything for your stay as warm, comfortable and inviting as possible. We are so excited for the Summer Season! We welcome you, and we are sure you will fall in love with this special place and want to return year after year.
Welcome to Woods Bay - We are thrilled to host you!
Lorena Kirby purchased this cottage in 2011
Why not Kirby Cottage! The cottage is not lakefront property but it is approximately 450 ft from the waters edge. It's near to everything that makes NW Montana a great place to visit! Public access to the lake in Woods Bay for swimming, and boat launch is about 1.5 miles away. Wayfarers Park to the north (closer to Bigfork) is a great family area with camping, swimming and picnic areas is less than 5 miles away. Yellow Bay to the south is less than 10 miles away with the same swimming, picnic and camping amenities. Glacier National Park is about 45 miles, northeast from the cottage, with lots of great hiking, and there is a terrific water park for the family in Columbia Falls, which is on the way to Glacier. You can rent everything from boats, jet skis, paddle boards, kayaks and even bikes near to the house. You and your family will find tons of outdoor fun here!
Within walking distance to several restaurants on the lake, and a micro brewery. Woods Bay marina close by. We have a lovely deck just off the kitchen to enjoy your dinner, and a fire pit with plenty of seats to soak up those cool Montana nights.
We stayed at the Kirby Cottage for a wedding near by and it was absolutely lovely! The yard is amazing with a fire pit, porch swing, games, patio, BBQ and lake view! The house feels like home and the location is perfect. The owner is great to work with, she is very accomadating! She left us some snacks and we forgot some clothes in the closet and she went through the trouble of mailing them to us. We would definitely stay here again:)
Kirby Cottage is a lovely cottage a few minutes walk from Woods Bay (part of Flathead Lake)
The cottage was roomy for a one adult and five children household. The children enjoyed the outdoor area (badminton net & fire-pit) and we ate outside on the deck numerous times. The cottage was very functional and we enjoyed the great welcome basket. It is an older cottage but was kept cool by the ceiling fans and the breeze coming off the lake. You can see the beautiful lake from the front windows and see the sun setting over the water from the front porch.
The community is quiet. There is some nightlife and dining, the Raven and the Sitting Duck, though we didn't go in, we noticed the signs for live music numerous nights and it seemed to be well attended.
Flathead lake is a beautiful clean lake that is on the cooler side, it has rocky beaches so bring some water shoes if your soles are not used to it. There is a public water access right beside the Raven (two minute walk) that we used one day, though it is not necessarily a beach it allowed the kids to swim and use kayaks that we rented from the local store.
There are numerous activities to participate in: hiking, water sports (rental store just a walk away), state parks, dining, boat tours to Wild Horse Island, shopping in Kalispell (40 min drive), and a water park in Columbia Falls (40 min drive).
We really enjoyed it and it worked beautifully for our family and budget.
We really enjoyed our stay at Kirby cottage.
The house is very well located, you can walk down to the lake and enjoy lakefront restaurant, paddle board rental...
Lorena was very quick to answer our questions and she really helped us to solve a TV network challenge.
Overall we definitively recommend Lorena's cottage.
The Sauvage family.
This quiet cottage was a great centralized location to Glacier National Park. While we spent quite a bit of time in the Park, we will definitely want to visit again due to its proximity to Flathead Lake, restaurants, and orchards.
The basement bedrooms and TV are great for the hot days (although basements are basements)
My wife and I recently stayed at this wonderful home while attending a wedding and the 4th of July Holiday. Little did I know what a gem this was when booking it. The location is outstanding with food and several watering holes within walking distance. The home is cozy and has plenty of room as described. It also has a nice little porch and a deck so you can enjoy the beautiful evenings. It is just a short jaunt into the town of Bigfork and there are plenty of other attractions really close too, including Wayfarer State Park, mountain biking, horse back riding and don't forget the water sports because you have a great view of Flathead Lake. I highly recommend this home for anyone thinking of staying in the Bifork/Flathead Lake area. Another nice little treat of this place is the owner who is extremely responsive and was also sweet enough to drop off a little care package for us during our stay.
Heading south from Bigfork on Hwy 35, travel approx. 9 miles arriving at Woods Bay. Watch for The Sitting Duck and The Raven on your right. Shore Acres Drive is on your left right across the street from The Raven at mile marker 26. Go 100 yards on Shore Acres drive and take the bend to the left, 14668 is the first driveway on your right.
