Description

Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday apartment in Realejo-San Matias - Alhambra Hill Apartment A

In a quiet and safe neighbourhood, yet just just 5 mins from centre of town!

One of two apartments on Alhambra hill in the centre of Granada yet in a quiet tranquil neigbourhood. From here you are within easy reach of the old moorish quarter, or the cathedral and the main commercial area of the city. You couldn't be much nearer to the Alhambra. A couple of minutes walk gets you to the woods that lead up to the Palace.

Fully equiped seperate kitchen.

One double bed in bed room and a double sofa bed in living room. The sofa bed is fine for children.

Shower room. All towels and linen are supplied.

Outside patio area.

Minimum stay 3 nights. English/Spanish owner couple who live close by.

Satelite TV, 24/7 Wifi.

No smoking in the apartment, but yes in the patio.

Note: 45 steps lead up to the house, so it is not suitable for people with restricted mobility.

The patio to which you have access is seen in the photos of the property. You are welcome to use it, and it is perfect for breakfast or dinner in the evening.

The apartment is totally independent from our part of the house, and the independence of our guests is a priority for us. However, on arrival we are more than happy to introduce you to what we consider to be the best of our city: whether it be the interesting neighbourhoods, the innumerable historic buildings and museums, or the restaurantes, bars, shops etc. Apart from a map for you, we leave printed information in the apartment, and we are close at hand if you were to require any further assistance.

We love our neighbourhood! It is like a little village in on the side of the Alhambra hill. It is safe and quiet with the Alhambra woods just a few yards away. However, 5 minutes walk down the hill and you are in lively Plaza Nueva with its restaurants, bars and nearby shops.

We are so central that all the sights really are within walking distance of the apartment. You won't need a car to visit the city itself, but if you arrive at the city in a vehicle we will recommend a well priced Car Park close to the city ring road. There are Car Parks closer to us, but are much more expensive, and to negotiate Granada's one way systems and restrictive car-access, is an experience you really do want to avoid!! Granada is a very Car-Unfriendly city, but that shouldn't be a problem... apart from walking, taxis are cheap and there is an excellent public bus system.

With confirmation of your booking with us, you will receive details on how to arrive at the apartment depending on your method of transport... car, bus, train or plane, and other information.

About Richard

Richard and Esperanza met in London in mid 70's. Esperanza studied art at the Royal College of Art; Richard played with both Joe Strummer and John Lydon in various bands of the time. They moved to Granada in 1988, having restored the ruin that they had found at the foot of the Alhambra. With their children leaving home, they decided to convert a section of the house in to two independent apartments. They still live in a seperate part of the house. Esperanza, an active artist with regular international exhibitions of her paintings and sculpture, has a ceramic studio off the patio. Some of her work is used in the decoration of the apartments. Richard is still involved in music: both playing and producing musical events. They are both more than happy to share their extensive local knowledge.

Richard purchased this apartment in 1988

Why Richard chose Granada

Having decided that we wanted to move from London to Granada we couldn't believe our luck when Esperanza's brother sent us a photo of a dilapidated ruin at the foot of the Alhambra. We had wanted to live in the centre of the city, but to have found a property in this perfect position was more than we could have hoped for. Perched on the side of the Alhambra hill with views to the front overlooking the city, and behind us a green swathe of the Alhambra woods we couldn't have asked for more. Just pedestrian cobbled streets in the neighbourhood, which suits us fine. Bird song for car horns is our preference, yet in 5 minutes you are in the centre of the city with the necessary shops bars and restaurants. We renovated the house and had space for a ceramic workshop for Esperanza.

What makes this apartment unique

The apartments really do combine two apparently opposite characteristics. We are right in the historic centre of the city with bars and restaurants 5 minutes walk down the hill, yet at the same time we are tucked away in a quiet (and safe) traffic-free area. Three minutes walk up the hill brings you to the Alhambra woods with its running water, bird song, and deliciously cool respite from Granada's summer heat. You have absolute privacy during your stay, but we are on hand to help out in any way that we can. We want you to enjoy your stay here!!!

Great Place, Great People

  • 5 of 5

We are a middle aged couple from California. We spent a very happy four days in the apartment in late September/early October (when the weather was perfect). The exterior is charming, just like the photo on VRBO. It is small but feels bigger than it is. It has a separate fully equipped kitchen, a living room, a bedroom and a patio area. It is very quiet. It is located right below the walls of the Alhambra up a short but steep pedestrian alley so it is probably not suitable if you have mobility issues. Richard, the owner, provided excellent tips on the best local bars and restaurants. He also helped us get last minute tickets for the Alhambra but he is not a miracle worker so we would urge you to book on-line well ahead of time. Thoroughly recommended - we wish we were back there now!

peaceful, pretty perfect location

  • 4 of 5

Excellent location only metres away from one entrance of the Alhambra and very close to old city. Cute apartment below private house & other to let apartment. Kitchen & living room dark as no windows (patio doors give some natural light into living room), bathroom very small, bedroom lovely with views over rooftops.

Richard provided excellent joining/finding instructions and was very helpfu on our arrival. Beautiful city with loads to do, cheap BIG portions of tapas & food! just be fit as it's a hilly city and there are a LOT of steps.

This apartment has a great location, excellent hosts, and was a very satisfactory accomodation

  • 5 of 5

The apartment has a great location at the foot of the Alhambra and close to the Plaza Nueva and many bars and restaurants. It is very clean and comfortable. The kitchen was clean and very serviceable. The courtyard is a very pleasant place to sit. Richard and Esperanza, the hosts, are interesting people to talk to and were very attentive to our needs. They are a good source of information about the city, restaurants, and other questions. The apartment and courtyard are decorated with number of beautiful sculptures, lithographs, and wall decorations made by Esperanza which give the place a nice feel.

I found the description of the apartment in the listing to be accurate. The apartment is not accessible by car and does require climbing a number of steps, but I thought that this was part of the charm of the place. I would stay here again and would recommend it to others.

Great location in Granada

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed a six day visit to Granada and could not think of a better location to live than at this apartment. It is literally at the doorstep of the Alhambra and only a very short distance from Plaza Nueva from which one can access all of the main tourist attractions easily- on foot and by bus. The apartment had all the necessities and we hope to return. It was a pleasure to meet the owners and they definitely made us feel welcome. We would recommend staying there to others.

Place with Character

  • 5 of 5

This is a lovely apartment in a great location just below the entrance to the Alhambra and central to all the conveniences of central Granada. The owners live closeby and made us feel very welcome with advice on attractions and restaurant and practical recommendations.it comes with a beautiful patio area which is ideal for breakfast or just sitting out and relaxing.I would highly recommend this place except for those with mobility issues as it does require climbing quite a few steps to get to the apartment.

Appartement charmant

  • 5 of 5
