Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday cottage in Overland - Denver Urban Cottage

Our urban cottage was built in 1923 but is now totally new on the inside. You will love the vaulted ceilings, bamboo floors, granite counter tops, modern bathroom and its location close to public transportation.


WIFI, cable TV, DVD player, stereo, full kitchen, coffee maker, coffee/sugar/creamer, some condiments, ice maker, blender, toaster, microwave, linens, towels, A/C, shampoo, soap, blow dryer, books, washer/dryer, street and off-street parking are available.


The decor is a comfortable laid back style with tropical accents.

Living room: Comfortable area for lounging and watching TV. (Couch contains a fold-out queen size bed for add'l guests if that is preferred to sleeping in the full bed in the basement.)

Kitchen: Granite counter tops, full refrigerator, gas stove, microwave, and fully stocked with dishes, mugs, glassware, pots & pans, utensils, blender, toaster, coffee maker, towels, spices, etc. We provide coffee, tea, sugar, creamer. Dining room: Seats up to 6 (4 regular chairs and 2 stools).

Full bathroom: Walk in shower. Fully stocked with soap, shampoo, lotion, towels.

Bedroom 1: Queen size bed, walk-in closet.

Bedroom 2 in basement: Full size bed, closet, desk.

Courtyard outside with table and chairs.

We live in the other house on the property, but your area is private and fenced. We are there for you if you need anything, but we're not intrusive. This property is one we recently purchased. We are in the process of renovating the larger house and the grounds (landscaping, etc). So be advised that since we have not installed a sprinkler system yet, the yard is not so pretty. However the area around the cottage is tidy and decorated with potted plants, etc.


Light Rail: Just 4 blocks away, just north of intersection of Warren & Delaware. Get on northbound train to go downtown. (about 15-20 min ride)

City Bus: Closest northbound bus stop is 1/2 block away on NE corner of Broadway & Iliff. Closest southbound bus stop is on SW corner of Broadway & Iliff, a bit south of Mike's Bar.

Denver is a bike friendly city with many bike lanes and trails. There's also a bike rental/share program called Denver B-cycles, which has many kiosks around the city where you can pick up these bikes. (Closest kiosk is at Florida & South Pearl - 1.3 miles away)

If you rent a car, you can park in on the street in the front of the property or in the alley (off street)


South Broadway is an eclectic central location within a short distance of many interesting venues, shops and restaurants.

We are super close to the neighborhoods of Platt Park, Harvard Gulch & Rosedale. And a short drive to Old South Pearl, Washington Park, Cherry Creek Mall, Denver University, and only 7 miles to downtown.

Within walking distance: To the south are El Tejado*(4 blks), Colore Italian Restaurant($)(5 blks); To the north: Azucar Bakery(4 blks), Corvis Coffee(5 blks); Famous Pizza*(2 blks), Lamar's Donuts, Dairy Queen, Rebellion Pizza, Burger King, 3 G’s Mexican…

Further north on Broadway you’ll find: Maria Empanada*, Adelita's Cocina y Cantina* (tuesdays $1 tacos), East Asia Garden*, Pasquini’s (casual Italian), GB Fish & Chips, La Cour Denver’s Art Bar (French)

Other restaurants: Jerusalem Restaurant*(1890 E Evans), Little India*(2390 S Downing)

Harvard Gulch Park is only a few blocks east. The Recreation Center there includes weight/exercise room (treadmills, stationary bikes, circuit training, free weights), outdoor pool, full size basketball court, and various exercise classes. Day pass can be purchased for $5.00. Technically this is for Denver residents' use so you would not be able to get a monthly pass.

City of Kunming Park (at Vassar & Grant) is a park on a hill that allows you to see the mountains and downtown Denver. A great place for a picnic.

HOW TO GET HERE FROM THE AIRPORT (if you're not renting a car):

The best way to get here is to use Super Shuttle:

The cost from the airport to our house is $26 for first person and $12 for any others. You will be in the van with other people and they drop people off as they go. If you're the last people dropped off, then it could take an hour and half+ to get here --- longer if it's rush hour. (It's about a 45-60 min drive anyway with no stops, if there's no traffic)

A taxi is faster but more expensive. It'd be around $75+ to get to our house. Denveryellowcab will take you downtown for around $55 but then you'd have to get a cab from downtown to our house (about 7 miles away).

The cheapest way to get here would be by bus and then light rail, if you're traveling light. However, you'd have to time everything just right or you might find yourself waiting around for next bus or next light rail. It costs $11 to go to the downtown bus station. Then you'd go to the Union Station light rail station and catch the C line light rail train going south and get off at the Evans station. We are 4 blocks from there. 2nd option costs $9 -- you'd take the bus to the Nine Mile light rail station, and then take the H line train to the Louisiana-Pearl station. We are a short distance from there. I could pick you up at either station or downtown, if we plan on that ahead of time. It costs around $2.50 to ride the light rail.

A GREAT base camp for Denver and the Mountains. Don't let the street parking scare you - we never had a problem finding a convenient spot and everything was easy to get to (I had a meeting in Aurora, we went up to Mt. Evans, we went downtown several times and to Fort Luptin to see kin - we were all over). The place was a darn near perfect base camp. The décor was lovely. The neighborhood was quiet. The place was clean. Great value. The owners were ready to correct anything (we had trouble logging on to WIFI and they responded immediately). Our 11 year old opted for the sofa sleeper in the living room instead of using the basement bedroom and that worked out just fine. We would absolutely rent it again.
