Historical Cliffside Cottage (1148 sq ft) is located at mile marker 2 in on the 57 mile New River Trail. You may hike, bike or ride horses on this trail. Chestnut Creek also runs along our property where we have a private pavilion in the woods where you can enjoy a leisurely morning, afternoon or evening. You may indulge in fishing, swimming or just relaxing. Should you have horses, we are equipped to board them in our historical stable (built in 1903) across the street at our home.

Fantastic, nothing less.
The cottage looks like something out of House Beautiful. I have rented a lot of VRBO's and have never had one that was decorated so beautifully, down to every detail. The owner even put out a bottle of wine, and cheese and crackers for our arrival. The owners are delightful. The cottage is right on the trail and Chestnut Creek. Perfect for our biking adventure.
Thank you for the decorating kudos! Sure makes it worth it when others enjoy it as much as you did!
Not a detail missed
My family and I rented this cottage and the one next to it, and we had a wonderful stay. Both cottages are wonderfully decorated, very clean, and extremely comfortable. The owners are a delight - generous, kind, welcoming and down to earth. What a great surprise to find some goodies waiting for us when we arrived - cheese and crackers, a bottle of wine, fresh eggs. We highly recommend renting this cottage and its neighboring cottage.
As for activities, the property is gorgeous with several lovely views and plenty of space for kids to run. We enjoyed the private pavilion just down the trail and fishing in the creek. We loved our bike rides in both directions. Creek Bottom Brews in town serves up delicious pizzas, salads and beer. And we made two visits to the Blue Ridge Music Center on the BRP for hiking, music and a nice educational center.
Wow! Thank you and we are so happy that your family was able to enjoy not only the cottages but the area as well!
Really great place to stay, relax & unwind. Beautifully decorated, the owners really had everything available from the full sized kitchen & gas grill on the back deck. Bike trails and creek just outside in the adjoining park trail system and still close to town. Cute & cozy! Mt Rogers & Grayson Co State Park just a short scenic drive away also to enjoy.
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed the cottage. We hope to see you again!
I always hope for the best when booking with HomeAway but I never truly know what I'm going to get until I get there... In this case, I was most pleasantly surprised with every aspect of the experience. The house was adorable, perfectly maintained, well decorated, and nicely equipped (we needed grill instruments and found an entire set when we opened the grill).
The property itself is very picturesque, with the sun setting over a hill off the back porch, and a Christmas tree farm off the front porch. We would eat breakfast on one side, and have dinner and wine on the other, watching the rabbits and deer (the deer made a brief appearance and then moved along).
This house is located on the New River Trail, which is a gorgeous place to walk or ride your bike alongside the river. There are some chickens and a rooster in the neighborhood, but the rooster wasn't very good at his job (thankfully).
Finally, the owner, LIz, was a delight. She and her son showed us around the property and offered to help with whatever we needed. It was very clear she takes great pride in this little house and her job as caretaker. She even left wine, cheese, and muffins for us. Ohhh, and coffee, which is one of the most important things ever (especially if you realize you forgot it).
Overall, it was a most excellent experience. We travel here frequently and I look forward to coming back and enjoying this sweet little home again.
*Another bonus: there is a grocery store less than 5 minutes away.
Thank you so very much for taking the time to write this review! Much appreciated and we look forward to your future stays with us!
CUTE-CUTE home in a perfect location to enjoy the New River Bike Trail. The property sets right at the Cliffview access to the trail. The owners have provided all the extra details needed to enjoy your stay. This is what makes the house extra special. The fridge was stocked with bottled water, coffee creamer and bag of ice. Cheese and crackers, wine, popcorn and fresh coffee was there for your enjoyment. The bathroom was also well stocked with extras. Nice linens, towels and comfortable beds made for a very nice stay. My boys loved the creekside property. We loved sitting on all of the 3 porches. I would highly recommend staying at this home!
Great Weekend Retreat
Recently restored 1890's era cottage, in a great location on the New River Trail. Spacious living/dining room, lovely bedrooms with fans and high celings. Beautiful country kitchen, brand new grill. Two nice porches with a great view for relaxing. My kids really enjoyed the private creek access and shelter. I enjoyed the hiking and peace and quiet. Close to town and restaurants. I would definitely recommend it!
Thank you for taking the time and posting your very nice review. We love to hear what everyone does and what makes it special to them.
