Sit on the wooden swing and relax watching the sun set over the sparkling water.
About Nadine Burns
Our children learned to fish, swim, boat and have many adventures over the years on the crystal clear waters Jewell Lake. Many memories were created around the fire pit, telling stories while making s'mores.

Why Nadine Burns chose Barton City
Barton City is a small rural town, surrounded by the Huron National Forrest and large farms. Even on the drive, you will find that you reach a point we like to call 'above the stress line' where the cares of the world fall away. Our family has a history here from the logging industry and we have always spent summers at the lake, teaching the kids a more natural side of life. You are within a 15 miles of awesome canoeing, tubing and kayaking on the AuSable River. There are many surrounding golf courses, 4 within a 15 minute drive. Harrisville is only 12 miles away on Lake Huron and their craft, antique and wine festival weekends are always a good time. The county fair in Lincoln boasts fun demolition derbies and many farming events. The Fourth of July is called 'The Biggest LIttle 4th in the North' due to the parade, festival in the park, and fireworks exhibit on the island you can see right from the front of the cabin. Labor Day weekend is when Barton City hosts a local Baseball Tourament so it is always a fun and packed weekend around town.
What makes this Cabin unique
Being right on the lake, sitting on the swing in the evening was one of our favorite things to do, whether solving world problems or laughing with family. With so much of Jewel Lake being in the Huron National forest, it is not over populated and it is common to only see 2-3 boats out on the lake in the afternoon, or even none at all. It is an all motor lake, so you can bring your jet skis, ski boat or kayak and enjoy the water on your own terms.
Smoking outside is requested.
We allow up to two dogs. No other pets.
Max guests:5 (sleeps up to 5 adults)
100% refund for cancellations more than 60 days before check-in date. 50% refund for cancellations more than 30 days before check-in date.
Great Lakefront Experience
Really enjoyed the property and the peaceful Jewell Lake. Arrived Labor Day weekend so there was a fair amount of “end of summer” activity on and around the lake but things cleared out after Monday and felt like I had the entire lake to myself the rest of the week. Caught and released a lot of northern and a few bass, the lane was easy to fish and beautiful clear water. Several very good golf courses nearby, played 5 of them within 25 mile range over the course of the week. Comfortable bed awaiting after active days. Appreciated being able to bring my dog along and she enjoyed the property also and walks down the sparsely travelled main street through town. Easily launched my 18 ft boat across the lake at the national forest ramp and docked it right at the property. Check out the very well run and stocked BC Store just a short walk away.
Perfect Up North Getaway
This place is amazing. Great views, excellent fishing, welcoming people, and totally relaxing. We’ll be coming back again soon!
The cabin is clean and comfortable we absolutely loved our time there!
We had the best time. We rented the pontoon down the road and spent one day out on the lake fishing. It was great to relax and unwind.
This cottage is very cute and has anything you might need for your stay. We were impressed by the kitchen supplies as they were actually nice and not what we typically get in a cottage rental. The skillets didn't stick and the knives were sharp. Everything worked well and we had a lot of fun with the games and DVD's. It has the feel of staying in your friend/family cottage because of all the amenities. The lake water is clear and perfect temperature. The town gas station/store had a few things we forgot and are friendly.
Bad - the property could use a weed whipper and the evergreen tree needs pruning (we kept hitting our face on the limbs). This cottage is right on the lake but you can't wade or sit in the water out front because it's overgrown and we were warned about swimmer's itch. The dock is really short and narrow but we enjoyed it. I'm happy we brought our own 16' fishing boat because the rowboat is really dirty and had a lot of water in it. The fishing was great and we caught fish every time we went out.
There is a National Forest beach across the lake, but we discovered what we were told by locals, the mosquitoes and other bugs will carry you away. So we were unable to swim (a main reason to rent on the lake), and as expected the cottage has no air., and the temps were in the high 80's low 90's. We decided to leave a day early to escape the heat
The location is great if you want to get away. We did take a stress break from the city and it was lovely. Barton City is in the middle of no where. There's nothing for at least 30 minutes in any direction.
The owner's are really great. They met us on the day of our arrival and are very lively and kind people. Just a couple changes would make this cottage amazing.
Thank you for the nice review. We are glad you had a nice trip. Thank you for the tips. We are always trying to improve. The cedar tree has been trimmed up, and I have talked to the lawn mowing guy about lack of weed wacking. Look forward to seeing you again. Ron and Nadine
Jewel Lake is a Jem
The lake is so clean and clear. We caught perch, bass and pike. We were able to bring our two choc. labs and they had as much fun as we did. The hosts are very accommodating and friendly.
This is a very affordable and peaceful place to stay. We rented a pontoon boat for the day from near by and it also was very reasonable. The store in town has just about anything you would need. Loved our visit to Barton City.

Up North Getaway
This cabin was perfect for a simple up north getaway. The kitchen was well stlocked with plates, utensils, etc. Our favorite activity was sitting on the swing looking at the lake. Ron was wonderful to communicate with and good at checking in to make sure our check in went smoothly.
Located on Jewel Lake in Barton City, a small town with with a grocery store, gas station, bar, ball diamond, tennis court and post office. The lake is part of the Huron National Forest with boat launch, swimming beach and acres of land to hike in, see wildlife or bird watching. There is a bald eagle on the lake which is loaded with blue gill, perch, walleye, pike, bass and turtles. Lake is very calm during the week, busier but not crazy on weekends with an island oasis to hike on. ATV trails are close by and run through the forest.
