About Chris Currie

I am an educational program development consultant and my wife edits our community newspaper. We live with our three children near Washington, D.C.

Chris Currie purchased this cabin in 2008

Why Chris Currie chose Pennsylvania

The Trouthouse is our vacation home, which we are pleased to share with you when we are not staying there. I designed the cabin and guest house to be our dream get-away, and hope that it will be yours, as well.

What makes this cabin unique

Today it is almost impossible to find a modern vacation home right on top of a stream bank, due to flood regulations. We were able to build our new cabin on piers on the site of an older cabin that was razed. As a result, you can dine on the back deck overlooking the stream as well as fall asleep at night listening to its music.

Excellent

  • 5 of 5

My family and I went up to celebrate Christmas together without all the crazyness. We took a tree and all the fixes. The cabins were very spacious and homey. The full kitchen allowed for us to prepare all of our meals for the holidays. It was exactly what my family needed time together without Internet! We had a wonderful Christmas! Thank you so much and hope to be back in the spring!

Peaceful, Beautiful and Flexible

  • 5 of 5

This clean, modern, beautiful cabin and the companion guest house are truly the best places to stay in the Oil Region, especially when you consider all you get for the cost. The furnishings, fixtures and amenities are first-rate. You'll admire the thought that went into even the smallest touches. The beds are very comfortable. The kitchen is nicely equipped (we easily cooked our Thanksgiving meal here). And while this is a peaceful retreat for couples, it can accommodate large groups as well. We loved staying here and will absolutely return often when we can. A couple things to keep in mind (not criticisms, just observations). The only access to the bedrooms in the main cabin is a narrow spiral staircase. They're all upstairs. Both bathrooms are downstairs. We took extra care going up and down, especially at night. Guests who have issues with stairs should consider staying in the adjacent guest house. Also, the three bedrooms upstairs all are open in some way. So there is no "total" privacy. I think it was designed this way to allow heat from downstairs to flow through. But you can hear what's going on in the other rooms. Just FYI.

Comfortably Rustic

  • 4 of 5

We had no disappointments with the property. It is well maintained, was clean and comfortable. The kitchen was large with plenty of room for preparing meals. The guest house is a very nice touch, offering additional sleeping space and privacy. The property itself is very nice, with the sound of a running stream directly outside the cabin providing a relaxing atmosphere.

The owner was very responsive to inquiries, and the instructions provided with the rental in terms of access and operating the mechanicals were very detailed.

Nearby, the Oil City and Titusville Railroad provided a nice ride into Oil Creek State Park, which is beautiful and historic. 2 Mile Run County Park is also very nice. If you like the outdoors, there is plenty to do.
