About Kimberly Near
Currently we live in Berkeley California and get to Costa Rica as much as possible. We have been loving learning about organic farming and sustainable living. We continue to grow in our appreciation for Costa Rica and look forward to sharing it with others.
Kimberly Near purchased this Farmhouse in 2006
Why Kimberly Near chose Poás
We were drawn to the property because of it's incredible views and it's central location to both the city and tourist attractions .
What makes this Farmhouse unique
We find it hard to leave the farm and spend most of our time relaxing on the deck of the house watching the hummingbirds and butterflies. Building with natural materials was a great experience and the feel of the house is so different then traditional structures.

Wonderful spot to travel from to see the area.
The building & gounds were well care for. The kitchen was adequate for our needs. The washer was excellent. The only thing we did care for was the short drive to Rio Coyote. We master it by driving slowly & never hitting the gas. We agreed by Jose & was very help.
Absolutely wonderful experience
I stayed at this property with my husband, my 8-year-old son and 6-year-old daughter and we had an amazing time. The owner ensured that Jose was available upon our arrival to help guide us to the property in case we had any trouble finding it since we arrived well after dark. The provided directions as well as the GPS location that she provided proved to be enough and we arrived without issue. Jose was ready for us and gave us a quick tour of the facilities. There is a book in the bamboo house that also guides you through the property as well as provides recommendations on sights and restaurants in the area. We did visit a few of the recommended sights and restaurants and were not disappointed (Poas Volcano, Los Chorros Waterfalls, Grecia, the local soda (Bomba I believe, which was the best in all of our other soda visits across the country).
Since there were four of us two of us slept in the bamboo house and two in the lofted apartment. Both are equipped with all the basic necessities and then some. The bamboo house is such an amazing building with beautiful views of the coffee farm and such a gorgeous design. We made full use of the kitchen and were happy to find it stocked with some basic necessities such as oil, spices, and a wide variety of cooking utensils. I cannot come up with adequate words to describe how serene the property is.
We coordinated a time for a quick tour of the farm with Jose and were delighted with the experience. It was very interesting to learn about the coffee process as well to pick various fruits from the trees on the farm. Jose is an excellent host and guide; polite and helpful. We didn't have a need to further use his services but it was nice knowing he was available if needed and he did check in with us once or twice after.
We stayed for three nights and were very sad to leave but we left feeling more at peace than when we arrived. If I make it back to Costa Rica I will definitely stay here again.
I would highly recommend this property to anyone interested in visiting Costa Rica.
We are so delighted you enjoyed your stay! We also revel in the serenity of the farm. You are welcome back anytime.

2nd time - just love this place!!!
2nd time we stayed (first time in 2015). Continues to be a great place for a quiet get away from it all. Very safe and rural. Has great water, plumbing and shower facilities, plus lots of birds. Property was very much as described and pictured. We had access to good bus lines to Alajuela. Our host on the ground took us on a small tour of the property and showed us the mechanics of from tree to table. He also is well known and regarded in the area and linked us in with folks from other small holding farms. We also went to Poas and La Paz Waterfall Gardens, two very "not to miss" área features. We had many fun adventures and were sad to leave. This place is a really nice location for us and I think you will enjoy it too!.
Thanks so much Shawn. Happy to have you back again. We love La Paz as well. Hope to see you back again soon. Glad you enjoyed your stay.

We both really enjoyed our stay at the bamboo house
Astonishing structure in a lovely setting. Coffee plantation setting but with a rainforest background. Humming birds and huge butterflies all day. Jose very helpful and quite a lovely person. Totally relaxing as a place to stay in Costa Rica.
We're so glad you enjoyed your stay and appreciate the review. We'd love to host you again if you get back to Costa Rica.

Fantastic property in stunning location.
We stayed three nights in the Bamboo House. It is a fantastic property with all the amenities you could wish for. Jose Luis the caretaker has his own coffee plantation and was kind enough to supply is with freshly roasted beans (within an hour and they were still warm). The setting is stunning with beautiful views and wildlife including humming birds right outside your door. A real gem.
So glad you enjoyed your stay Nigel. The birds are incredible aren’t they ! Please come back anytime. Appreciate the nice review

Nice studio apartment in a quiet location. We had a nice time here.
Large room with eating, seating, cooking and sleeping areas. Bathroom separate small building so you have to go outside and then 7 ft to the room. All the kitchen equipment you need except we missed havinga true refrigerator with a freezer. The cold chest did not allow for making ice. Jose is a very friendly caretaker. Grocery store, ATM and restaurants with 10-15 minutes.
On main highway to Poas Volcano and La Paz Gardens
