This cottage stands out primarily because of its setting. It is located on a quiet cove surrounded by nature, and the property is rich with wildlife: ducks, herons and many other birds (including wild turkeys); chipmunks and squirrels; raccoons; possums; deer; foxes; etc. A trail from the end of the cove follows a creek up the valley to a pond stocked with bluegill, bass and catfish. Other trails provide access to lots in a green residential development called “The Woodland Community” being developed on the 72-acre site.
The cottage itself features a large front deck and patio just 50 feet from water’s edge. Guests enjoy a beautiful view of the cove and the natural area beyond as well as private access to a 3-well uncovered dock and swimming area. For those with boats (available to rent at a nearby marina), the dock provides access to greater Lake of the Ozarks with all of the activities and amenities it affords. A public boat launching area is located less than 3 miles from the property or at a marina even closer.
Recently renovated, the cottage includes an open space kitchen and living area with a vaulted ceiling and exposed beams, two bedrooms and a bath. A hide-a-bed and inflatable mattress in the living area expand indoor sleeping capacity to eight persons, and outdoor tables and chairs on the deck and patio expand dining options beyond the kitchen bar with stools. A charcoal BBQ grill is available on the patio. While the cottage is air conditioned and includes a flat screen television with entertainment options, it does not include a dishwasher so guests are put “back in touch” with the satisfactions of warm soapy water, rinsing, and stacking dishes in a rack to dry!
By water, the cottage is located at the back of Chimney Cove at the Lake’s 13 mile marker just across the main channel from Lodge of Four Seasons. By land, it is located in Shawnee Bend Subdivision #3 just off of County Route MM across from the future west entrance to The Villages—turn north at Village Station Convenience Center and Shawnee Bend Cemetery. This means the cottage is only a 10 minute drive across the Community Bridge from Osage Beach where guests will find fine and casual dining, all kinds of shopping including the Osage Beach Outlet Mall, miniature golf, go carts and much more. The cottage is only 8 miles from Lake of the Ozarks State Park.
Before closing, it should be mentioned that there are level lawn areas near the dock and in the valley at the end of the cove that provide room for tent and RV camping. These resources open the possibility of sleeping more than the eight people who can be accommodated in the cottage itself. There is an extra charge of $10/day per tent or $20/day per RV vehicle.
Quiet and private cove. Great for swimming. We rented a boat and were able to tie up at the property dock. We brought our kayaks. The lake was VERY calm in this area even during the busy labor day weekend. We had a fire in the fire pit every night. Only word of caution.... bring bug spray. The mosquitos were lethal.
We rented the spot after getting permission to hold my daughter's wedding on the property. It was perfect! The owner went the extra mile to keep the grass mowed and installed a bridge to make access easier to an open field where we held the ceremony and reception. We had parking for the 100 guests right on the property with easy access tp the event. The house itself worked great for the bride and bridesmaids to stay overnight and get ready for the wedding.
The property is private and our dogs had the greatest time running off-leash! The end of the cove makes it convenient for the dogs to enter the water, and I was also able to enjoy swimming with them as they swam out to my raft! The cottage was very clean and has everything you could possibly need for cooking. The bedding was clean and plenty of towels. The 3 air conditioners were more than suficient to cool the place. I do wish the couch was more comfy, along with an additional single comfy chair, as on rainy days it was difficult to get comfortable in front of the t.v. Outdoors is the place to be! :). Dave, the property manager ensured we knew of local events. We had a blast!
Nice little cabin for our group of 4 though could easily sleep 6 people. Basic needs were met. We always bring extra kitchen items; paper plates, cups, plastic, spices, special pans or crock pot. Depending on meal plans, may need these items. Otherwise, plenty of silver and glasses and plates. Eating is an issue if it rains as we ran into that, but we managed using chairs and end tables. Enjoyed sitting on the deck with lots of shade. (Neighbors very nice and their dogs friendly) At the end of the cove so water is shallow but was perfect for floating and you do have more privacy. Nice parking, home great for someone with walking issues; no steps into the home. Wonderful trails to explore. Enjoyed feeding the families of ducks, they almost come right up to you. Property manager very nice and can offer helpful suggestions should you want to venture off. We enjoyed staying put!
Our family of four had a great time at Gary's cottage. It was clean with plenty of bedding and pillows. The new air conditioner units in the rooms were very welcome, and the stove, fridge, and TV were all in good condition. The patio has a wonderful view, and being in the back of the cove means it's always quiet. Would definitely stay again.
