Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday home in Scott - 'The Castle'

Circa 1890, This Historic home has lots of unique character you will not see elsewhere. Consists of 12ft ceilings and all original wood floors throughout. The master bath has a large brick walk in shower with 3 shower heads. House is fully furnished including king size bed, sofa sleeper, chair twin sleeper, 6 burner Wolf range with all the cookware you can imagine. The original millwork, hardware and painted walls have been preserved. A front porch has 2 rockers great for watching the sunrise. You can also relax on the large covered wooden deck at the rear of the home that opens onto a brick laid patio. The Castle

  • 4 of 5

The Castle is very nice place. It's convenient to everything that we wanted to do. It's a quiet location. Would definitely recommend it and would stay there again.

enjoyed our stay near lafayette la! We were in the country but less than 10 minutes to downtown lafayette.

The home is an incredible remodeled cottage with all amenities provided: WIFI, cable, Wolf range, washer/dryer and a great country - cajun radio station was tuned in upon our arrival.Dishes are washed by hand:)

Furnishings are often of vintage or antique style and clever attention has been made for placement of decorative items thru this home.

There is a huge back porch deck and also an open fire pit for plenty of people.

Great home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

This place was wonderful! Well stocked with everything we needed--towels, cookware, dishes, etc., but not cluttered. It was clean and quiet and had a lot of antique charm, but with all the modern amenities. Mornings in the front porch rockers were heavenly. Enjoyed watching the cows and eastern bluebirds from the back porch (wooden benches are nice and sturdy.). Close to Lafayette but far enough away to feel rural. We enjoyed this historic home and look forward to staying here again. Thanks for allowing well-behaved pets!

Found our perfect Cajun house!

  • 5 of 5

I have been needing to get to south Louisiana for family, groceries, and speech therapy. Unfortunately my cousin, Laurice Debuc, died who I adored so I got my chance. I have been looking at this place for a while and I'm glad I found it because I absolutely love this place. It's a historical house with restorations that are so nicely done. Love the colors of the walls. Love the stain glass. Loved the kitchen. It is very well stocked, even with a rice cooker. Loved, loved, loved the pot pantry. I want that for my other houses. They had any pot that you would possibly need. Loved the art and especially the fish. I want that too. They also had really great towels, so no need to bring your own. It has a front porch and a huge back porch too. To anybody that stays here, please take care of my new place.

Very Cute, But ......

  • 3 of 5

This property is very cute and bigger than we anticipated. The location feels removed, yet it is only 10-20 minutes from Starbucks, restaurants, etc., in Lafayette. The shower and laundry equipment are very nice and the towels are top quality (although more face cloths and hand towels are needed.)

Here's why it is a 3 star property instead of the 5 others gave it:

1) The back porch furniture is totally unusable. The straps are so worn that a person sinks almost to the floor, and the cushions are worn out and covered with cat hair. The front door screen lacks a latch, so you cannot open the door for a nice breeze if you have pets.

2) The owner's have personal items stuffed into the closet, armoire, etc., around the house - no tidiness here. Most items are not neatly folded or arranged and some appear dirty.

3) Some food left in the kitchen (spices, items in the fridge, etc.) have long since passed expiration and needed to be purged. Also , there is so much stuff jammed into cabinets and on the counters that everything is dusty, cluttered, and needs cleaning.

4) There are no lamps in the bedroom for reading before retiring for the night.

5) Finally, the housekeeping just isn't what it should be. I understand that it's out in the country, but the windowsills, tops of shelves, floors, (basically just the whole place), needs a good declutter and deep clean.

Owner's Response: I have to clarify some things after reading this review. Our previous guests have all been more than pleased rating us all 5 stars so I was shocked to read such a negative review. 1) I apologize for the one (1) chair that sinks on the back porch. Outside furniture does become worn easily from the weather and bright Louisiana sun. We deal with the cat hair too and clean the chairs prior to each guest but it is the neighbor’s cats and we try to be good neighbors. We do not have any pets so never needed a latch on the front door, I think it is unrealistic to think we will cater to the needs of animals although we allow them in the home, as we did yours and cleaned up all the dog hair left after your stay. 2) The sole purpose of the armoire is for the linens and extra bedding. The linens are all folded neatly in drawers while the shelves hold pillows and a comforter. How should we fold or stack pillows neatly? Normally the closet door is locked with the 2 suitcase racks used for holding clothes but we left it open to accommodate you for more space during an extended stay. 3) We do live in the home periodically therefore items are left in the fridge intentionally. There was none expired and local homemade jams or jelly do not have a printed expiration date nor does salt and pepper. It is there for those who choose to enjoy those things. The kitchen is very small and limited cabinet and drawer space. We enjoy cooking and have a fully stocked kitchen so where else exactly would you put all utensils or items needed to cook a full meal in a kitchen? 4) For the lamp, you could have easily moved 1 of the 3 lamps that are in the living room into the bedroom for your purpose. I went personally introduce myself and numerous times I said to please contact me should you need anything more. My phone number is on a sheet in the home also stating to please contact me if you need anything more. I was never contacted. A latch on the door or bringing in an additional lamp could of been done had it been brought to my attention. 5) Totally disagree with your cleanliness opinion, I skipped Mardi Gras celebrations on Tuesday February 9th to clean the home myself. Your stay was nearly a month and housekeeping or laundry is NOT included. I am sorry you failed to contact me to express all of your concerns during your stay where I could of assisted but rather waited nearly a month to write a review. I am sure our previous reviews speak for themselves as does our guest book.

Wonderful Place......WOW.....

  • 5 of 5

What a great place to spend a little rest and relaxation in Cajun Country.......this place takes you back to the early 1900s with it's Acadian style architecture and country charm.....We spent almost a week here during the Christmas holidays and loved every minute of it....

I totally recommend this place for visitors to the Lafayette area...
