We loved it!!!!
The location of the cabin is amazing, BREATHTAKING!! We didn't have any problems while staying here. Only positive emotions. Thank you so much!
Ringtail Cabin is well stocked, very clean, nice and quiet, and we will definitely return. Easy access to Big Bend National Park. You MUST visit Santa Elena Canyon - the scenery is absolutely breathtaking. Highly recommend taking the 1.5 hour air tour with Rio Aviation, Marcos is extremely knowledgable of the area and an excellent pilot. Everyone we talked to was extremely friendly and helpful.
Great little cabin
We enjoyed the privacy here. The fact that the cabin is off grid is a bonus. The bathroom and kitchen/dining room are the largest areas, which makes a lot of sense.
The sunrises and sunsets are phenomenal. Be prepared to drive a bit when you are in this area. Nothing is nearby.
Owners, please get a cutting board and some chairs for outdoor use for the cabin, then it will be perfect!
Great views, great privacy, less than optimal comfort.
The view from the front window is gorgeous. Overlooking mountains and rugged terrain. However, we had some issues with the cabin itself. The swamp cooler did not work very well for us. We stayed for six nights and I sweated through the first five for sure. To be fair, my fiancé and I like our house cold. Our A/C at home stays set to 65-66, so part of the problem may just be us. However, the swamp cooler is in the living room wall and we had no cool air at all in the bedroom. They had instructions on how to make the cool air get to the bedroom, but it didn’t work well at all for us. We moved to the futon in the living room and found the mattress in awful condition. Lumps galore. We moved the bed mattress on top of the futon mattress and the futon one was so bad that it made the bed mattress impossible to sleep on. We finally pulled it out, and just had the bedroom mattress on the futon frame, directly in front of the swamp cooler. The cooler was definitely emitting cooled air, and we put our box fan in front of it to help draw more cooled air out and into the room. As long as you were directly in front of the cooler, it was nice, but if you stepped out of the direct path, it was uncomfortably warm. We made it through three nights of this, until the morning after our fourth night, we lost power. We called the maintenance man, Daryl, he was very nice, but at first he gently blamed us for the power failure. He said it was probably the box fan pulling too much power. Regardless, we went out hiking for the day, and Daryl promptly showed up and worked hard to resolve the issue and charge the batteries for us. When we got back at about 7:30, he was still there, hard at work. After looking at the electrical usage history, he changed his mind about the issue being our fault and tried to fix any issues. He is a great guy, and I appreciate all he did for us. He ended by showing me how to work the generator, just in case another failure occurred and then he left. At 4am, we lost power again. I used his instructions and got the power back on and the batteries charged. I called him at a little more reasonable hour and then we went out for the day. Idk what he did, but when we came back for our last night, the cooler almost froze us out, and no power issues. All in all, they are great people, and we may have just been unlucky to have issues. However, I had to give a 3 stars based on my personal experience.
Wonderful Desert Home
Ringtail Cabin was a delightful cottage with a nice kitchen, bedroom, bathroom and living room. All were well maintained. My husband and I stayed for 10 days and were very happy with Ringtail. As a plus, it is powered by solar panels and is off the grid. It turns out, this was important because the town and park lost power while we were there. We were snug and well fed and cozy in our cottage. I really got a feel for the immense space of the desert and surrounding hills while staying at Ringtail. Many days after hiking in the park, I would come back and sit for hours in the desert "yard," reading and absorbing the magnificent beauty all around me. Neighbors were several hundred yards away, so far enough away to not really interfere with the desert views. A dirt road runs by the cabin and is nice for walking or running. The owners were proactive, and if they thought we might need help, they were there. Thank you so much to the owners for providing a home base for an amazing experience of Big Bend National Park and the desert.
