Overview

About the property

3 bedrm, 2 bath, open light-filled living spaces

This is a perfect getaway on a quiet rural road, looking out on a private wooded view. The open entertaining area includes light-filled Living Room, Dining Room and Kitchen. The Kitchen has island seating and the cook looks over the garden - this is a kitchen for a cooking enthusiast.

The comfortable private bedrooms all overlook the garden and woods. The 2nd Floor Master Bedroom has two walk in closets and a wall of windows - the bed is queen size. The main guest room (first floor) with a queen size bed has an in-room vanity and closet. The third bedroom (first floor) also has an in-room vanity as well as a full (double) bed and plenty of room to play. The Den (Second Floor) has a sofa bed (full/double size).

The Master Bath (adjacent to Master Bedroom) is generous in size and has a two sink vanity, a huge soaking tub overlooking the woods and a shower big enough for two. The 2nd bath (First Floor) is smaller but nicely detailed with wall hung toilet and sink and an easy walk in shower. While it is not technically handicap accessible, this bath has grab bars and is good for the elderly.

Other rooms include a central art/game table within the Open Entertaining area, the 2nd Floor Den (already mentioned) for quiet work or movie watching, and a 2nd floor Laundry Room. There will be storage area in basement available.

Outdoor spaces include - flower garden, herb garden, lawn and patio with seating for four, 2nd floor covered deck with a hammock.

Beautiful details and materials throughout- this is a very sustainable house. Architect owner lovingly designed this house in 2006 and has used it regularly with her husband and young daughter. The house is family friendly but not child-proofed. You can search online using 'Sharon, CT, Dwell, Beavers' and you'll see a great Dwell article and slide show on house.

Please note also there is a one bedroom Owner's loft (bed, bath, kitchen, living) above the detached garage - separate and private from the house. The owners stay there every few weekends but in no way disturb the privacy of the house and the property . The loft is not included within the rental rate but could be available for additional rent.

About Lynn Gaffney

I am the architect of this house and many others in the NY, NJ, CT areas. My husband and daughter and I spend many wonderful weekends and breaks at our Sharon home and love Litchfield County and the Hudson Valley with all they have to offer. We live mainly in Brooklyn.

Lynn Gaffney purchased this house in 2006

Why Lynn Gaffney chose Litchfield County

We've been renting the house for a few years now and we've had wonderful guests thus far. We're looking forward to many more. We sometimes overlap since we use our owners loft approximately every other weekend - but this is a very separate private loft.

What makes this house unique

Are you a writer? An artist? A person who enjoys quite, light filled rooms and walks along a country lane? Do you appreciate modern spaces without clutter? Do you want to look through a wall of glass - out over the garden - while cooking dinner? This is the house for you.

Beautiful contemporary, green home perfect in every way. We were so comfortable in every room. The beds and linens were very cozy. The great room was nice and open. A great area for nice long walks. Really wonderful. Will return!

Thank you Lynn.

Perfect Weekend Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay in Sharon. The home is beautiful, and very comfortable. The linens were soft and luxurious, and the master bedroom was very comfortable. The giant tub and rainfall shower made us feel very pampered. We had everything we needed to cook great meals, and we especially appreciated the weber grill. There was plenty of firewood provided to keep us toasty all weekend long. Lynn and her family were staying in the apartment while we were there, however it felt extremely private, and we never saw them (although we would have loved to meet them!). I'd highly recommend a stay in Sharon.

Who Could Ask For More

  • 5 of 5

We spent the month of July at this spectacular property on the outskirts of Sharon Connecticut. I don't need to extoll the virtues of the location but the house itself added immeasurably to our enjoyment and made the month stay one of the most enjoyable (of many) vacations we have ever had.

Lynn was a tremendous hostess, the house was generously supplied with all that one could desire. The building itself shows the smart creativity of the owner/architect with the massive windows affording views and light that changed during the day and made the interior space "at one" with the beautiful forest outside. Incredibly well insulated both day and night and just a pleasure to spend time in.

Kitchen incredibly well appointed and so much fun to use, living space quietly comfortable, bedrooms and bathrooms 5 star.

All in all one could not ask for more and I recommend it most highly.

Natural beauty meets ultra modern living

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I were looking for a fall leaf- peeping getaway not far from NYC. After reviewing several homeaway properties over drinks and dinner they left the final choice (out of three) to me. So I felt a great responsibility.

After careful review I chose 'Bog House' because in addition to meeting all of our desires, the pictures of this clean, modern bright home blew me away.

So very soon after contacting Lynn, the owner and architect of the property we were on our way!

Since the family was on property finishing up their Colombus day weekend we were lucky enough to get a personal tour. The property did not disappoint and was all that was expected and more!

As we did not plan a very active vacation we stuck close to Sharon, only making trips into town for cooking supplies. As self-described 'foodies' we spent each night in the well-appointed kitchen and at the grill. But if you are looking for a fine dining experience outside of the home the are some very well reviewed restaurants not far away.

The woods surrounding the property were secluded and very beautiful and it was even warm enough the have lunch outside.

Though there ended up only being two in our party, the home was large enough to offer privacy for several couples while having enough warm bright, gathering places to socialize in.

So if you are looking for someplace where you can look up at night and see all the stars in the sky and listen and hear nothing at all, than this is the property for you!
