Day trips from Komarna: Komarna is ideally located to make day trips to places of interest, beauty, and historic value.

1) The Bacina Lakes at Ploce (10km) boast beautiful clear waters and many species of fish.

2) The Kravica Waterfalls are about 20km from Metkovic and are a spectacular sight and well worth a visit.

3) The town of Mostar in Bosnia boasts an abundance of history with a Moorish theme to it having been occupied by the Turks centuries ago. It also has a public market on Saturdays.

4) A visit to Medjugorje, (30km) a Catholic Pilgrimage seeing millions visiting the village after the Holy Virgin appeared to 6 children on several occasions in 1981.

5) A ferry ride to the islands of Korcula, Hvar or Brac. Korcula is the birth place of Marco Polo and an attractive fortified walled town. There are street performances by dancers and actors in the summer.

6) Canoe Safari & Photographic Safari trips are within easy distance and great fun for kids and adults.

Day Trips continued: 6) A visit to this part of Croatia would not be fulfilled without a visit to Dubrovnik, a UNESCO Heritage Site. The old town is steeped in history and wonderful architecture. Walk around the battlements and museums before treating yourself to a meal at one of the many restaurants. In the summer months, open air concerts are performed in the evenings in the square at the end of the main street. Other street performers are evident during the day also. All the shops are open until late evening, so make your trip a full day and evening. It is well worth it.

7) A visit to the Peljesac Peninsular by car makes an interesting day out. This is the land opposite the apartment across the water. Where it joins the mainland is the ancient town of Ston with its battlements. It is famous for its oysters and shellfish and there are some excellent restaurants there. The Peninsular is the wine making area for the region and you will pass several wineries whilst driving north. Stop for a small taster.

Having treated yourself to some of the day trips above, its time to chill out by the waters edge and relax on your vacation. The water is warm and crystal clear. There is a diving board and loungers can be hired through Villa Bili. If you require privacy, our balcony is not overlooked at all but still soaks up the sunshine. There are kayaks, jet skis and motor boats for hire through Villa Bili for the active minded. Also available for a small fee through Villa Bili is the use of the indoor pool, sauna and gymnasium room on the ground floor of the apartment block. There are several other beaches in the area other than our own below the apartment. There is a restaurant and bar at Villa Bili with a good choice of menu, but there are several restaurants on the coast road north and south and in the nearby towns of Opuzen, Klek and Neum, all a short distance away. Please note there are steps to negotiate down to the apt and beach.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Your lovely apartment at Komarna provided us with the hub we needed to go visiting and exploring up and down Croatia for the month. We visited right up in the north in Istria and down to Dubrovnik. The staff at Vila Bili were always pleasant, helpful and professional. We would highly recommend your apartment and location to friends who maybe planning a visit to Croatia. It was perfect, thank you. Hvala.

Komarna is a fishing village on the coastal road between Dubrovnik and Split. It is 70 km north of Dubrovnik and 120 km from Split. It lies just north of the town of KLEK. (See little blue and white house on adjacent map for approximate location). The village waterfront faces south west and benefits from sun from 9am though to sunset. It is a rural location. Opuzen or Neum, both 15 minutes drive are the nearest towns north and south with banks and large supermarkets. Restaurants are along the coast road both in Klek and Neum and towards Opezen. The apartment is ideally located for day trips to islands by ferry, historic sites and towns, the wine region, the shellfish area or for just lying by the water's edge or on local beaches. In our block is a cafe, indoor pool opening out onto the water, sauna and gym. There is a restaurant and bar in the adjacent Villa Bili and a small shop at the rear. Until visited, it won't be appreciated why Croatia is the new jewel of the Mediterranean

Other Activities: Motor boats, jet ski, canoeing, photographic safaris

The accommodation provided is for up to 8 persons in a purpose built 3 double bedroom apartment. As such, the dining table seats 8, the balcony tables and chairs are for 8 in addition to sun lounger’s and Directors chairs. The apartment is designed so that it can be totally lived in for 2 weeks by a family with all amenities on hand as opposed to 'just somewhere to sleep at night'. There are steps down to the block entrance from the parking area and steps lead down to the water. The accommodation is suitable for the elderly providing they can climb steps/stairs. At the waters edge, sun loungers and sun umbrellas are available through Villa Bili. Run by local Croatians, they are our hosts and look after our guests. The indoor pool is available to guests but there is a small daily charge. This is open from mid June to mid September. The doors open out creating an outdoor pool looking across the sea. Villa Bili has Internet access for a small fee. Mobile phone reception is excellent.

Well equipped, well situated, well managed.

Four of us spent a week at the end of May and into the first week in June at the Komarna Apartment. The apartment had everything we could possibly need and was spotlessly clean. Instructions re the use of equipment were clear and easy to follow.

The location was ideal for us and allowed us to visit and explore the stunning coastline and inland at the countryside and historical sites. We made full use of the comprehensive information folder and spent time on the ‘island’ of Peljesac which faces the apartment balcony.

Early evenings were spent on the south facing balcony watching the spectacular sunsets and on one evening a summer storm with fork lightening which lit up the sky.

Our favourite restaurant was the Laguna in nearby Nuem and an ice cream parlour in Klek was a firm favourite.

We all felt there was much more to explore in the area – a good place to explore especially out of season. We will return!

Fabulous location a warm holiday in May

  • 5 of 5

Super apartment and great for an early May holiday in Europe - good weather and no crowds. The apartment was well equipped, spotless and the lady who greeted us could not have been more helpful. Dubrovnik was delightful and we were fortunate no liners had docked so it wasn't crowded. We enjoyed our day out in Ston and had a superb meal at the Captain's Table Restaurant - the fish was the best we've had for a long time. Our day out in Mostar was fascinating and well worth the queue to get through the border. Another day to recommend was our visit to the Peljesac peninsula - we drove on to Oreba and caught the passenger ferry to Korkula, birth place of Marco Polo. Korkula is small enough to walk round or hire bikes for the day - also a good choice of restaurants over looking the sea. Most evenings ended relaxing on the balcony, sipping our chilled wine and watching the sun go down - I would go back, there is still a lot more to explore.

Great apartment

  • 4 of 5

The apartment is great, it was spotlessly clean on arrival, is well equiped, has a great location in Kormana with balcony overlooking coastline and small local beach. The staff at Villa Bili who manage the apartment are friendly and cannot do enough for you.

This was our first time to Croatia and we cannot recommend it highly enough, it is a stunning country with the friendliest of people. The apartment is well situated to explore both Croatia and Bosnia, you must be prepared to drive.

There are quite a few steps to negotiate but this is not an issue for most people.

On the whole, we had a great holiday and would definitely consider going again.

This well equipped spotless apartment is in a well maintained block with stunning sea views. It's location is very central with many sights within a day's travel. Positioned on the first floor with double aspect windows makes for a light and airy living space, the balcony is also a fabulous feature we even saw dolphins from here.
