Our house is located in the heart of the Concordia neighborhood just half a block from diverse restaurants, natural food grocery stores, yoga, massage studios etc… We live on the property and love our neighborhood diversity.
Famed Portland Alberta street is just a couple blocks away with a diverse selection of retail, entertainment, and more dining experiences within a loving vibrant community. Alberta offers food for every taste (vegan to carnivore), craving (foie gras, sushi, middle eastern, southern, to Thai), popular Salt & Straw Ice Cream, and budget (PBR to wine bars). Infused with locally owned shops, cafés, bars and galleries.
You can walk or bike though one of our numerous beautiful parks or community gardens. There are also numerous bus lines within a few blocks walk that take you all over the city or rent a zip car or car to go. We love our neighborhood for offering the diversity of all these things, but with the peace and quiet of a neighborhood and plenty of safe on street parking and quiet to listen to the birds sing.
ABOUT THE SPACE
It is a renovated private two bedroom basement accessory structure with your own entrance at the back of the house opening up to the garden. There are about 7 stairs to enter the space so keep that in mind. We created this space to be fun, comfortable, and homey. It offers two queen sized beds. There is also a queen futon and a full pull out if needed. There is a small one person shower bathroom with toilet and sink, kitchenette, living area. There is a tv that offers movies, and a large lending library as well as lots of portland info.
-lockbox entry allows for easy check in / check out, at your convenience. We will send you the code upon arrival. You'll have complete private access to the unit you have rented & the grounds of the property including shared yard and garden space.
INTERACTION WITH GUESTS
-We are just a phone call/email/text away! Texts are preferred & we respond promptly to them. You may also use the web site messages as those are pushed as texts or email too. We are pretty hands off & will leave you to enjoy your stay for the most part. We live on the premises, But please do message us first should you need anything & we will determine if it's something we can assist you with better. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or can't quite figure out how something works or need a great rec for a place to eat. We are here to help!
KITCHEN : The kitchenette has everything you need should you wish to do light cooking - fridge, two burner hot plate, microwave, blender, coffee maker, large toaster oven, all cookware and dishware as well as tea, coffee, and snacks.
You can save money by cooking in, but it'll be tempting not to with so many great restaurants nearby. -We do not keep the kitchen fully stocked with every item;, but we do offer tea, coffee, some condiments and snacks, and the grocery is 3 blocks away.

-People other than those in the Guest party set forth above may not stay overnight in the property. Any other person in the property is the sole responsibility of Guest.
-The unit is privately owned; the owners are not responsible for any accidents, injuries or illness that occurs while on the premises or its facilities. The Homeowners are not responsible for the loss of personal belongings or valuables of the guest. By accepting this reservation, it is agreed that all guests are expressly assuming the risk of any harm arising from their use of the premises or others whom they invite to use the premise.
-Keep the property and all furnishings in good order, only use appliances for their intended uses & inform us if anything is not working upon your arrival.
-Respect the neighbors - houses are close together in this neighborhood, so please respect noise level after 9p & before 8am. If using the fire pit or grills or just enjoying the back yard be aware there might be people sleeping just next to you.
Interaction with Guests: Limited interaction likely, but we enjoy meeting travelers so if your spending time lounging the yard most likely we will be as well. We live just upstairs and the spaces are connected, but you will have complete privacy with a separate entrance just in the back of the house by the garden.

TV etc.: NO CABLE We have a dvd and tape player as well as a plug to play music. A great video store is just a few short blocks away. Maybe read a good book from our lending library? We have numerous informative magazines and info about Portland neighborhood offerings as well as a stocked bookshelf and games. There is wireless Internet
Laundry: Clean, bedding, bath towels, hand towels, wash cloths, and kitchen towels come with your stay. No beach towels provided. NO laundry use but there is laundromats nearby.

CHECKING IN AND OUT: We will try to be flexible about check in and out times but with bookings we might need to stick to 11am out and 4pm in times. Let us know if you need an extension and we will see if we can offer that.
STAYS FOR LONGER THAN ONE WEEK (MONTH): If you want to stay longer than one week be advised while your space can be a private sanctuary, though it is still one big house with us living upstairs.
NUMBER OF GUESTS People other than the registered Guest(s) may not stay overnight in the property unless notified. Please respect our 4-person limit. Guests over 4 people are only $20 extra a night. Baby's under 1 exempted from that.
Cleaning Fee: for every stay there is a $50 cleaning fee
PETS: pets are allowed with a $50 per pet cleaning fee. No more than one dog. And you must clean up after your pets on your own in the yard and any messes they make in the space. If the animal destroys any property you are required to pay for damages.
GROCERY STORES: Alberta Co Op Grocery (natural foods): 15 min walk, New Seasons Market (local smiling version of Whole Foods is three blocks away as.
BIKING: WE off 4 bikes for your wanderings. As you probably know, Portland is one of the best biking cities in North America.If they are stolen there is a $75 fee.
PUBLIC TRANSIT: TriMet bus #6 and #72 both stop one block away. The #6 will get you downtown in 24 minutes. The #72 is handy for traveling up and down nearby Alberta Street or to head west toward TriMet's MAX light rail Yellow Line. Plan your trip at TriMet's website.
CAR SHARING: Portland is home to car sharing services including Zipcar, Getaround, and Car2Go.
AIRPORT: Car: 15 minutes with no traffic
Taxi: About $25
AMTRAK or GREYHOUND : About 30 minutes via MAX Yellow Line light rail and transfer to #72 bus.

great neighborhood and a real portland experience
We stayed in the apartment with our 14 yr old daughter and enjoyed it very much; there is plenty of space and comfortable beds. The description of the apartment is accurate and the photos capture it well; everything was clean and as expected. No problems with appliances or Wifi. The yard and garden are lovely, as is every other house on the street! We absolutely loved the neighbourhood and Portland in general. There are so many things to do within walking distance, and then of course there is the rest of the city to explore. I wish we had more time.
During our stay it was very hot, and we really enjoyed the cool basement refuge, but you are aware that you are below ground. I think that some people might find the apartment a bit dark during rainy days and winter months, and the ceilings are fairly low in places so tall people would probably not enjoy this space. These are just some things to consider based on your own preferences - we really had a wonderful time and would certainly stay again. There is so much to do and see, I don't know who would want to sit around inside the house anyway...
We were quite busy during our stay and communicated with the owner by email, they were easy to get in touch with if needed. I would absolutely recommend this listing to others, I found it a nice low-key space to relax in and I hope we can return soon.

There are a lot of great restaurants, patios, bars and shops within walking distance of this apartment.
The decor is great and there's lots of amusing books to check out.
The location of this property was great! We could've stayed in Alberta Arts for days and not gone everywhere we wanted to. This was a good walking distance from a lot of great places. The room was clean and comfortable and the owners were very accommodating. Thank you!
Basement apartment...felt like a basement. OK if you're not too tall and not claustrophobic. Bathroom was teensy...bedrooms decent sized but living/eating areas were cramped and lacked sunlight. OK for the price!
The homey accommodations were just what our family needed for our stay in Portland for a family wedding. All the amenities we needed were there waiting for us, and the convenience of walking to fantastic restaurants was great. The Alberta neighborhood is a lot of fun to explore on foot too.
Neighborhood: NE 30th and Killingsworth Sts.
'A great area to go for dinner is NE 30th and Killingsworth in the Concordia neighborhood because there's a cluster of good restaurants, so if one place is crowded you can go to the next and they're all delicious, with great atmospheres and really nice people. And I appreciate that it's a neighborhood, with families out and about.
I really like a place called Wilder, which is run by an Irish expatriate. You can get great mussels and frites there, which is what I usually do. The bar takes up most of the space, and they have a very friendly bartender. It's on a corner, and there's something about a corner bar-slash-restaurant that seems to exemplify friendliness and openness. You can just drop in and feel like a regular.
Nearby is a restaurant called Nonna, which is Italian and has a pretty outdoor area, and next to that is a place called DOC, which is also Italian. And there's Beast, which has a more upscale tasting menu, and a cocktail lounge called Expatriate across the street, which Naomi Pomeroy from Beast also owns with her husband, Kyle. Usually if I go to Expatriate, I get a whiskey or bourbon drink, and the fried fish sandwich is great.'

PET POLICY AND AGREEMENT
It is hereby agreed by and between Judith Slater (Homeowner) and _____________ (Guest) that homeowner will allow guest to have the following described pet and no others in the vacation home upon and subject to the terms and conditions of the rental agreement and this addendum.
The permission granted herein shall be limited to a certain pet as described below:

Guest hereby agrees to comply the following:
1. Guest to pay additional pet fee in the amount of $__________ per (night/week).
2. All pets must be leashed at all times.

5. Pets are not allowed on furniture at any time. Any evidence of pets on furniture may incur extra cleaning fees.
6. All pets are to be treated with a topical flea and tick repellent three (3) days prior to arrival. Fleas and ticks are very rampant in this area and can cause harmful/fatal illness to humans and pets.
7. Pet must not cause damage to premises or furnishings. If damages are caused, the cost of the damage may be deducted from security deposit.
8. Guest should prevent pets from producing excessive noise at a level that disturbs neighbors.
9. Pet will not be left unattended for an undue length of time, either indoors or out. Pet will not be left unattended on balcony, patio, or porch.
10. Homeowner assumes no responsibility for illness or injury that may incur to pets or humans while on the premises.
The Guest shall be solely responsible for the pet while on the property.
