Relax in your own Mediterranean garden, your own private river beach and stunning views! Houses with direct river frontage where you can swim and kayak are hard to find in France, especially within a national park. This house is a gem.
What a lovely location perfectly placed for exploring the local area. We had a great time relaxing by the river swimming, having a picnic and generally relaxing even with 2 small kids in tow. Annabel and Martin were wonderful host a pleasure to be around and just so welcoming. Thank you for letting us use your lovely old winery for our first family holiday.

Our third year back at this fantastic gem of a propery in a gorgeous region of France with lots of activities in the area for all the family. A real find in a stunning location, amazing views with its own private beach! You can enjoy hanging out at the villa, going to the river on kayaks or swimming or chilling reading a book! Kids were happy exploring too. The house itself (we actually have stayed in both Le Roque and Le Piscine) are typically French in style but with all amenities and tastefully decorated - clean and comfortable, most importantly. The picturesque Roquebrum is only 10 mins away, where we found there are some great family places to eat (good pizza place), and going further say just 20 mins on you can get to Cessanon to the local french market on Saturday.
Myself, my husband and our 3 boys (then 10,12 and 16) stayed at La Roque Riviere for 2 weeks in August 2015. We had the most wonderful time. The river is stunning and we swam most days. There is plenty of opportunities to canoe this beautiful stretch of river. There is a good restaurant over the bridge where we enjoyed some lovely meals but mostly we had BBQ's on the lovely terrace area overlooking the river. We enjoyed walking to the small village store each morning to collect our freshly baked croissants. There are some lovely places to visit, a highlight for us being some Gorges nearby where again the scenery is stunning with lots of opportunity to take a swim. The accomodation itself is very comfortable and we came home after 2 weeks completely refreshed and relaxed.
We spent several unforgettable months at La Roque, absolutely charmed by the village way of life, the house and the location.
As Australians taking a mini sabbatical from life, and with a four-month old and not quite two-year-old in tow, it was critical for us that the accommodation was kid-friendly and had all the comforts of home. La Roque and Vieussan surpassed every expectation we had.
The house itself is gorgeous, perched on top of a gorgeous river, with all the modern conveniences (including a very well stocked kitchen) set within a very traditional stone house. There are no shortages of breathtaking running and cycling paths; markets and boulangeries with rustic and artisan food and wine aplenty; day trips to countless les plus beaux villages - it goes on!
The local hosts were warm and friendly, and Mark and Amanda went out of their way to ensure that we were comfortable throughout our stay, offering cots, and high chairs and other amenities that make it easier with kids around. It's very evident they genuinely want their holiday house to be your holiday house.
We can't recommend this La Roque enough!
We stayed at La Roque Riviere for a week in July 2015 with our two dogs and had a lovely time. The house is very comfortable and has everything you would need but the big attraction is the glorious riverside setting - a lovely (steep) garden steps down to a beautiful stretch of river ideal for swimming, canoeing etc or just lazing in the hammock. A 5 min walk across the bridge Le Lezard Bleu bar / restaurant served very nice food and as vegetarians they had good options for us which is not always the case in rural France! The area offers great walking and lovely villages and markets to explore. I would thoroughly recommend staying at Le Roque.
We stayed at La Roque Riviere for a week. It is such a beautiful place and location. We loved swimming in the river at the bottom of the garden and relaxing in the hammocks. There are lots of great activities to do in the area too - there is a wonderful flat cycle ride along a disused railway line through the mountains and nearby gorges to explore and swim in as well as canoes that can be hired to travel down the river. My husband hired a bike and would cycle through the mountains each morning before breakfast. There are vineyards too and great restaurants nearby. Whilst we were there, there was a really good music festival as well (Oh! Tiger Mountain were particularly good) with a lovely family-friendly atmosphere. All in all a perfect holiday.
We actually stayed in the top Gite for a week and the bottom one for a week with a 6 year old and a seven year old. The location is stunning and the private beach and river are awesome to swim in. Its a little rocky so we recommend wearing rock shoes in the river. There was a festival in the field over the bridge whilst were were there which was lots of music and food.
We visited all the local villages which were very picturesque and we recommend that you try the local wine by visiting the local wine shoes on the main road. The rockpools up the road are a must and we went there twice. If you get there around 10-11 am you can get a rockpool to yourself for sunbathing and swimming. Overall a magical place and a magical holiday. Would definitely go again to the region and this accommodation.
Vieussan is a small, unspoilt medieval village in a beautiful section of the Gorges de l'Orb (known for its canoeing and natural beauty), beneath striking mountains and surrounded by vines. Within ten minutes' drive are the ROCK POOLS of the Gorges d'Héric, Roquebrun with its Jardin Mediterranean, Olargues ('un des plus beaux villages de France') and a fine choice of vineyards ranging from large, professional operations to small traditional winemakers.

Within 45 minutes drive are historic Pézenas with its wonderful Saturday market and Béziers. A little further afield are the fine city of Montpellier, many kilometres of Mediterranean beaches (one hour), Millau with its wonderful new viaduct designed by Norman Foster, the Gorges du Tarn, the Pyrenees (visible from some higher points on clear days) and (only 3 hours' drive) Barcelona.
