Not in the mood for cooking, no problem, visit one of the 'chicken shacks' on the beach offering fish, BBQ chicken and drinks. There is also a great little restaurant 'Aggies' offering complete meals. A five minute drive to “River Sallee” another great chef “Desiree” of creative foods makes take away five course meals for about EC$15 . A small grocery store is located in River Sallee. The larger towns of Grenville and Sauteurs offer a large selection of stores as well as farmers markets, fish and meat market and bakery.
Our huge pool (The Atlantic Ocean” ) with its beautiful sand and a protective natural reef will keep you swimming, snorkeling or just “limin” (relaxing) for days. When or if you decide to explore, local hires are available or if you wish to explore on your own a transport can be arranged.
A five minute walk to Levera lagoon is one of the most important wildlife habitats on the island. Consisting of an extensive mangrove swamp, the lagoon is a haven for an abundance of bird species, including many herons, black-necked stilts, common snipes, and other waterfowl. (guided bird-watching tours are available) Levera beach where the yearly migration of the “Leatherback” turtle is a 10 min walk away. They usually begin migration late March and continue until app. Aug, guided tours are available.
Two things stick out in my mind after staying at Bathway Beach Cottages: 1) It looks exactly like the pictures with even more perks than are listed; and 2) Wayne & Barbara are fantastic hosts/owners. My husband is from Grenada and we chose this location to be close to his family during our vacation and it worked out perfectly for us. If you're looking for a safe, clean, rural setting and want to get to know the people and culture then this is the place for you. The kitchen is completely stocked with anything you need to cook with or store as leftovers. There are several small shacks that sell drinks and snacks on the beach and one restaurant (Aggie's) within easy walking distance. The food is good at Aggie's but a bit pricey. I would advise purchasing food from a grocery store on your drive from the airport. My husband and I both prefer a firm mattress, but this mattress (and pillows) were very firm and took a couple nights to get used to. As I was boarding my plane back to the states I saw many tourists with their Sandals t-shirts and heard them talking about the buffets and the pool, and I thought..."how sad, they didn't get to know this wonderful island and it's people". Wayne and Barbara are incredible resources and very generous with their time and knowledge of their surroundings. They go above and beyond to make sure you're enjoying your stay with them. I would definitely recommend this location to my friends and family. You won't be disappointed! Machelle Mitchell
The first 2 weeks of our stay in Grenada were spent at Bathway Beach Cottages on the northeast tip of the island. It was a beautiful, peaceful, and educational experience!
The cottages were designed and built by Wayne and Barb, the owners of the property. The cottages are not large, but are very well thought out and built solid as a rock. In addition, they are clean! The kitchen was well supplied, the knives were sharp, and everything we needed was there. There was a good bed, plenty of hot water and good, consistent wifi, as well as plenty of electric outlets, both 115v and 230v. Everything worked!
So...the cottages were great, but the icing on the cake was time spent with Wayne and Barb! Having lived here for 20+ years, they know about everyone and are a wealth of knowledge. Our contact with them really made our stay enjoyable.
Bathway Beach is just across a small dead end road from the cottages, maybe 20 paces from the gate. One can walk on the beach about a 1/4 mile in either direction - in the mornings, many times we had it to ourselves. There were times (holidays and some Sundays) some of the beach goers got a little carried away with their loud music. Also, the beach is beautiful and rugged but by no means pristine. Although there were plenty of trash cans available, somehow much of the trash from the parties never found it's way to them.
In retrospect, the only thing we would change, would be to stay longer...we loved it!
Great cabin nice beaches owners went out of there way to show and tell us about the island
Enjoyed every day we where there
We just spent 2 weeks at the beautiful Bathway Cottages on the Island of Grenada. It was everything we were hoping for and more. The cottages are new, clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. The decks where we had our morning coffee and other refreshments faced the ocean. What a great way to start the day! The ocean breeze kept us comfortable so we never did turn on the AC. Our hosts met our every wish and made us comfortable and welcome. The cabins were across the road from the beach which is safe and very clean. The fresh fruit, fish and chocolate as well as the spices are beyond compare and available. The people on the island are friendly and very kind. I have never seen a more stunning display of flowers that grew everywhere and the scenery was beyond compare. The fermented cane juice (rum) of all kinds was also very tasty and available to those who wanted it. It goes wonderfully with the fresh fruit juice we had. I would go back in a minute and really hope I can.
