About Carroll Reetz

We are avid travelers and running this guesthouse allows us some freedom in the off season to do just that. Carroll spent most of her career in Human Resources but gave it all up (darn) several years ago to open a hostel in Niagara Falls- leaving the wonderful California weather behind but gaining a wonderful husband. Andre is from Germany and we found each other here! We have since expanded from the hostel and added a couple vacation rentals to our endeavors. We think they are a great alternative to a sterile hostel - more like home away from home.

Carroll Reetz purchased this house in 2013

Why Carroll Reetz chose Greater Niagara

The Great Gorge Guesthouse is perfectly situated across from the Aquarium and a 10 minute walk to the tip of the Falls. We are located in the historic downtown area where most of the homes are over 100 years old. There's lots of history here as well as the incredible Niagara Falls.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Great location for the Discovery tour of the falls! Carol met us upon arrival and gave us some really valuable tips for our visit to Niagara. The Guesthouse was clean and provided everything we needed. There were some very nice touches like books and games available for us to use during our stay. I recommend staying here.

Very Convenient and Clean

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed the convenience of this house. It is literally across the street from the aquarium and a short walk across the footbridge to the Discovery Center where you can catch the trolley. We walked everywhere. The area beside American Falls was about a 10-15 minute walk as described. The owners were most responsive, and Carroll texted me the day before we left to make sure we had the instructions to get into the house.

The house was quaint, clean and met our needs. It is an older home, but this didn't hinder our enjoyment. Each room has an air conditioner, and we found it very comfortable. Parking was convenient, right beside the house, and seemingly secure as we were able to pull well off the street. The owners had a collection of books and compiled a notebook of helpful information such as grocery stores and other tips.

It's true that the area is not exactly the most revitalized area in the world, but we never felt unsafe. Like I said, we walked everywhere we went, day or night, and didn't think twice about it. Being able to swing by the house in the middle of the day for a quick meal or rest was perfect. The house has a locking security door plus the main door and a motion light that comes on as you approach the driveway.

I will suggest here that the owners invest in a few additional kitchen items. We found ourselves needing a mixing bowl, better spatula, a few more drinking glasses, etc. This was not a big enough deal to contact them at the time, but a few purchases would help out in the kitchen area.

Overall, we were very happy with this house and would definitely consider it if we were to return. We researched quite a bit before booking, and I'm not sure it can be beat for the price and location.

Very convenient to Niagara Falls, if you use the state park trolley you only need to walk about 2 blocks. Parking off street. Clean , 3 bedrooms and bath on 2nd floor. Quiet neighborhood. Owner very responsive. I would stay here again.

Great value for good location!

  • 5 of 5

The home is very neat and well maintained, perfect fit for those on a budget and looking to stay as a group away from hotel rooms. Children friendly with plenty of family games and books for kids and adults. There is only one bathroom on the second floor.

The townhome is in a great, central location. Steps away from the aquarium, and 2 blocks away from Main St which had plenty of dining options. Niagara Falls and the Visitors Center is about 20 min/1 mile. Rainbow Bridge and Canadian border is about 15min/0.7 miles.

Carroll was very communicative and responsive of our needs and apologized for the rains during most of our stay which needless to say was beyond her control. I would definitely stay here on my next visit and have no hesitation in recommending this townhome to anyone who is willing to do without luxury amenities.

The house is situated in the Park Place Historic District within a typical rust belt city. It is a national historic district located at Niagara Falls in Niagara County, New York. It encompasses 89 contributing buildings. It is principally a residential district built up between 1885 and 1928. The dominant architectural styles are Italianate, Queen Anne, Colonial Revival, and Arts and Crafts.

This an urban environment with a diverse racial and socioeconomic population. While many of the big old houses in the area are lovely and well maintained, there are others that are neglected or empty. It is an area that is slowly being brought back to life with new people and energy.
