Overview

About the property

2 Bedroom, 2 Bathroom House In The Historic Centre

Welcome to our lovely house on Elk Ave in the historic centre of Crested Butte dating back from 1890. The house is located at the quiet end of Elk Avenue opposite the book and coffee shop. It has a lovely grassy garden with mature trees, hammock and deck chairs to sit and watch the world go by. It has off street parking. BBQ. Many hiking and biking trails are a few minutes walk from the house. After a long day hiking or biking, visit one of the many great restaurants and bars only a minute walk away. The cinema, bakery, shuttle bus to the ski base are 2 minutes walk. One block from the Four Way Stop free shuttle bus stop makes getting to the mountain simple.

The house has original oak floors throughout. We purchased the house in spring 2014 and have replaced all the furniture, beds and mattresses. There is a king bed in the master bedroom and 2 twins that can be converted to a king in the second bedroom. There is a magnificent reclaimed teak day bed in the lounge which can be used as an additional twin bed.

The house has a flat screen TV, wifi and plenty of board games.

About Jane

My family and I first visited Crested Butte in 2006. We immediately fell in love with the area and have been coming every winter since. We have lived in the British Virgin Islands for the last 26 years so are used to living in a small community. We fell in love with the uniqueness of the town and the friendliness of the people. But is only took one visit in the summer to be totally hooked. As soon as this lovely house in the centre of the historic district came up for sale I knew I would be spending a lot more time in Crested Butte!

Jane purchased this house in 2014

Why Jane chose Southwestern Colorado

It's all about location. Being located on Elk Avenue, life is so easy. Stroll across the road in the morning to either Rumours or Camp 4 for a cappuccino and fresh baked pastry. Don't worry about driving in the evening after a night out at any one of the huge selection of great restaurants and bars. The atmosphere in town is something really special. The local farmers market is just at the end of the road, the Arts Festival, Mardi Gras parade, Big Air on Elk, 4th July Parade are all right there. The local bus stop to the mountain is 1/2 a block away. The cinema, 2 blocks away. Crested Butte is such a unique and friendly town that being right in the center makes being here all the more special. Many hiking trails are within a short walk of the house, free buses access many more trails. In the winter there are free buses to the ski slopes and many of the nordic trails start a few minutes walk from the house. Crested Butte is such a special town!

London (UK) visitors to Crested Butte

  • 5 of 5

Spent a couple of weeks with friends in June staying in this Crested Butte holiday rental.

Very nice spacious and clean accommodation on the quite end of the main street Elk Ave with easy access to the boutique shops and restaurants.

Beautiful scenery, fauna and flora of course and a brilliant base for loads of wonderful mountain biking, rafting and trekking trails.

Also spent evenings going to local music events and theatre. CB people are so welcoming!

Great host Jane, thanks so much.

Great house Great location

  • 5 of 5

House was perfectly set up and much roomier than we expected. All the amenities were there for cooking meals and having our friends from Gunni and CB by to visit and enjoy a meal. Parking spot worked well especially with the winter street parking rules (totally forgot).

The location was so convenient. One block from the bus stop, kiddy corner from Donita's and camp 4 coffee. Only a block or 2 from teocalli tamale and brick oven. Which was really handy to walk and get take out with my wife and son sick a few nights.

All and all a great experience. It will certainly be our first choice when we return back home!

This place was perfect for our family of 5!

  • 5 of 5

We loved being right in the heart of CB and the house was really cool. Lots of updates on the interior make the space functional. VERY comfortable beds. Cool layout upstairs and the big dining room table is great for meals and games. My only suggestion would be to add another small couch or recliner to the tv/living area so more folks can gather around. Hopefully we'll be back!

Very charming (and bigger than it looks!)

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for a spring break ski vacation and it was perfect for our needs. All the benefits of staying in town (sense of place, walk to supermarket/dinner/coffee/bookstore/Third Bowl), with the (free) shuttle stop to the mountain only a block and a half away!

The house itself was very charming, with interesting artwork, nice bathrooms, comfy furniture, a big eat-in kitchen and TONS of storage space. In some rental houses you can barely find somewhere to put your toothbrush -- this house has plentiful storage space in both bedrooms (including massive walk-in closet downstairs), bathrooms, and the kitchen so you can unpack and relax.

The kitchen has updated appliances (they seem to have gotten a brand-new stove right before we arrived) and plenty of utensils and dishes, though it is a little low on family-size pots and pans.

The house is bigger than it looks from the main picture on the website -- that only shows the (I assume) original part in the front, not the addition, which is nearly twice the size of the original. The kitchen has huge windows and tons of natural light.

Being right on Elk is not too noisy -- although it's the main drag of town, the speed limit is 15mph, which keeps the traffic noise down, and there is really not much car traffic to start with. We could hear people walking by in the evening, but nothing after 10pm or so, and only in the front of the house. This part of Elk is also about evenly divided between shops and residences, so it's pretty calm.

We loved this house and would definitely stay here again!

We were looking to do CB a different way this time. No car. On Elk. Go light. This was the perfect spot. I recommend it for sure.
