About Arlene Schneller
We built this lakeside home and make annual updates to add anything it needs. Each year we replace dishware, pots and pans, to ensure a clean and organized kitchen. As owners, we go through the home carefully before a busy season to perform deep cleaning in the spring and fall, just before our busy seasons to ensure the vacation home is always up to our high standards. We've been in the rental business for 30 years and also travel, so we know what guests expect. We enjoy Lake Gogebic with all its scenery, waterfalls, lakes, rivers, the Porkies nearby, the ski area, snowmobile trails and more. We live a half hour away in the UP but also visit Lake Gogebic frequently. My husband is from Milwaukee but I'm a born Yooper gal! We love hiking, boating and nature photography, love sharing our vacation home with others that love it as much as we do. Our son's Northern Lights Photography will also be featured on the walls of our rentals in 2016. Northern Lights are seen in our area more frequently than people know. We travel and stay in other VRBO rentals and have been in the vacation rental business for many years, we know what we like and what our guests expect.
Arlene Schneller purchased this Cabin in 1985
Why Arlene Schneller chose Marenisco
Our dream was to own a place on the lake, now we have two rentals on Lake Gogebic, Mallard Cove & Teal Wing plus our own private lake escape. We initially bought the vacation homes as investments for our children's college education, but now as new grandparents with another generation of lake lovers, we find ourselves enjoying the lake even more with family and friends. We kayak, boat, have campfires, fish, duck hunt, snowmobile, hike up to Alligator Eye, tour numerous waterfalls, visit our lake neighbors and the Porcupine Mountains...it's all such a wonderful setting. Perfect for photography too! We enjoy watching the northern lights, starry nights and bald eagles. The lake holds many great memories to share.
What makes this Cabin unique
Lake Gogebic is the largest lake in the Michigan's Upper Peninsula, our guests love it. There's never a crowded feel because the lake is so big! We love hearing loons and its so relaxing at the lake. There's always something to go and see if you want to keep busy, plenty of outdoor attractions with so many amazing places within one million acres of Ottawa National Forest. It's centrally located to all the places we enjoy. We are so fortunate to live where we play! If it rains or you want a nice dinner or looking for a few places to explore, we update our cottage three ring binder information each year and provide updates on new places in the area as well as events. We know you'll have a great time in Michigan's Western Upper Peninsula.

Nice cozy home with a beautiful view of the lake.
Lots of room in the house.
The house was spacious and had easy access to the lake. It was well equipped with the essentials we needed. The beds were comfy and clean. It was very easy to heat and we found it quite comfy. There was lots of seating available and we liked the open concept. The general cleanliness of the house had a lot to be desired though. There were a great deal of cobwebs and dead bugs and ladybugs along the walls and under the beds. No attachment had been used to deep clean with a vacuum in quite some time. The slanted ceiling above the one bed in the loft had some disgusting slime wiped on it, and a good wipe down of the walls or fresh paint is needed throughout the house. Other than that, we were very pleased with our stay.
Sorry to hear the place was not cleaned thoroughly. We will find new cleaning people. We've been in the vacation rental business since 1985 and pride ourselves on well maintained places. Thanks for making us aware of this problem. We always deep clean the places in spring and fall. We will be making periodic inspections personally as a result. Thanks again for your input.
The cabin is in a great location with a small store and a bar nearby. The lake lot is beautiful. The boat lift was a nice perk. It was well represented in the description and we always appreciate that. The cabin could use a little deeper cleaning but we visited at the end of summer so I'm sure it's been busy. The beds were clean and linens were great and that's most important.
Just as Expected.
We had a great time staying at this beautiful lodge overlooking Lake Gogebic. The cabin was just as described and very accommodating. We would definetely recommend this to anyone interested in visiting the UP.
Porcupine Mountains are just 25 minutes away!!
We spent the week at Mallard Cove and have to admit for the money we spent on the place we were very disappointed. One of the biggest was the shore station for the boat (which was one of the reasons we picked this rental) once we got the boat on the shore station it was very difficult to get out onto the dock. It was over three feet from the dock. I have pictures if you need. The downstairs was damp, musty, had visible mold on walls and spiders. There is no way any of us would have slept down there. We landed the boat daily (because of the unsafe jump from the boat to the dock). I had to back in the driveway off of hwy 64 or back out on to hwy 64 ,because there was no way to turn around in the driveway. No instructions for TV (4 remotes , figure it out !), garbage, whether you recycle? Left 1 day early (frustrated) really feel like we should get refunded some money. I know of several rentals on Lake Gogebic for a lot less money and will be returning to those places.
We do our very best to maintain our properties. We have checklists and experienced staff that live on the lake to ensure guests are happy and that any problem is taken care of quickly. We received one call from this guest and they updated us on something that they took care of themselves. Sorry we were not informed of anything further during that call. We have implemented a follow up plan since then. Many guests enjoy our lake homes year after year, we continue to strive for referrals and repeat guests as our main goal.
A beautiful place to vacation with family.
Just returned home after spending a week at this rental. Our two sons and family joined my husband and I here. We loved it. Cool morning breezes, coffee on the deck in the morning. Lake views are beautiful from the deck to the dock. Nice yard space for dogs and children. Trees along side of lawn for privacy. Scott was great about coming and checking and taking care of a small bee problem and making sure we were all fine. Friendly folks to rent from. The cottage was spacious and the kitchen was small but had every utensil a person would need for cooking. Close enough to stores, but far enough away from the rush and hubbub of every day life. Very peaceful and restful. We loved our stay. Several boat rental places within a few miles of cottage, several places to go out to eat if you want to and plenty of places to hike and explore.
Glad to hear our guests are having a great time at Mallard Cove and Teal Wing. Our caretakers Scott & Holly do a great job with guests too. Weather has been pretty nice.
A half hour away is Ironwood Michigan. Fabulous Historic Ironwood Theatre hold wonderful events there, next door is the new Downtown Art Place Gallery & Gifts and 906BOOM for Art Classes held for youth and adults, Art Studios on Aurora (ASOA) with additional artists upstairs at 107 E. Aurora along with Vertin Art Gallery located upstairs of ASOA. Kikkebusch Glass in Bessemer. The area is becoming known for its art community. Great antiquing in various small towns (don't miss Dan's Antiques - an incredible find on two floors, open 7 days a week) , grab a pasty, enjoy waterfalls along Black River Scenic Byway, see Copper Peak Ski Flying hill (open in summer with chairlift rides), see Bond Falls near Watersmeet, Yondota Falls near Marenisco on a Forest road, casino in Watersmeet too, great snowmobiling, 4 season getaway, Lake Superior and the Porcupine Mountains only a half hour away, Ottawa National Forest is over 1 million acres, plenty of scenery and hiking. Great location for nature photographers. So much to see and do outdoors! A boatload of information is provided for you in the lake home. We provide brochures and information in the cottage so you have plenty to do.
Attention snowmobilers, we have a "No-Snow Guarantee", if snowmobile trails are closed, you can cancel your reservation with a full refund or credit it to your next stay, whichever you choose. Also, if you have a group of family/friends you are trying to organize for a stay, request a 24-48 hour hold without any money down, to help with your planning.
