About Craig & Julie Frederick
A globe trotting couple, Originally from Canada & the UK We have lived in the south of France since 1986, first in Montpellier and then in Nîmes. Craig works offshore in the Oil Industry whilst Julie - who studied Hotel & Catering management at Bournemouth University - has worked & travelled extensively in Catering & hospitality. Our three children were all born in Nîmes and were educated in France where we all love living. We love cooking and shopping in the local markets for fresh produce. We are keen to promote local wines many of which are produced by firm friends. We love browsing the local 'puces' and brocante shops & markets. We also have a large collection of local pottery, gathered over the years. As culture vultures we love that so much happens locally, be it the Opéra in Avignon or Montpellier, plus local theatre in Nîmes. The summer brings a wealth of festivals, big & small - many held on our doorstep here in Uzès. There's many hiking and cycling trails close to the house and canoeing, rock-climbing, horse riding, and donkey trekking trails - fabulous fun with the kids! Whatever you choose - you can't beat a good soak in the pool or the sun after all that exertion.
Craig & Julie Frederick purchased this House in 2005
Why Craig & Julie Frederick chose Uzès
Mas des Mirabelles has all the charm of an original 18th century mas, but has all the modern features to make it very confortable both in summer and winter....log burn fires, gas central heating with floor standing iron radiators. In summer, the thick stone walls keep the house cool and fresh. The 400m2 lawn around the pool also has a unique way of keeping the air fresh during the heat of the summer days, and at night, lighting and the pool house adds to the evening....
What makes this House unique
Large private grounds 1400m2, large pool, completely private and fenced off, no one to overlook the grounds or house. Games include croquet and table tennis. 10 chaise longs and enough towels and mattresses for everyone.
Pool / Spa
100% refund for cancellations more than 60 days before check-in date.
Heaven on earth!
I'm not going to make a long and drawn out description of this place because the photos should speak for themselves! This place really is idyllic if you're after a rural retreat. Eight of us went last year to celebrate a friends birthday and we couldn't have chosen a better place - we really did have a great time. A car is necessary really but there is also a local taxi driver who ferried us all back and forth to Uzes on the occasions we decided to eat out.
The owners are lovely and will go out of their way to accommodate you and make sure everything is the way you want it.
I am glad everyone enjoyed themselves. We update the photos to reflect the changes goung on every year at the Mas des Mirabelles. Come and see for yourselves as thepictures are just a taste.
We stayed at Craig and Julies farmhouse, in September 2018, Well it was Quirky as described, Perfect for us then!, we were a family of three couples, celebrating three significant birthdays. the area which we already new, suited us really well, this location in easy travelling distance of many delightful towns and villages. Uzes and San Quentin being nearest and typical of a wonderful area of France, Nimes close by, where we have had many great holidays, Craig, who we dealt with, made us welcome.
The farmhouse contains everything required for a comfortable stay, we will be returning soon. Chris and Cherry. Oh, and the pool was delightful.
Quirky farmhouse with lovely pool
Lovely rambling house with quirky rooms - pool was great size and very warm - lots of sun loungers and shady corners - overall just like the photos. Great hosts were available for whatsapp responses to any queries in a moment. Yes it backs onto a road, but there is a rear garden between the house and the road and its not so close as to disturb the charm of the front (pool) garden unless you are really hyper noise aware - and anyway the cicadas make more noise than the road!
It was a real pleasure to have such pleasant and helpful guests. Thank you so much for choosing to stay with us and for all the effort you put in to leaving everything just perfect when you left. Hopefully we'll see you again some other time.
Perfect House in Uzès!
We traveled to Uzès for a family trip and the house was just as described. We loved using the pool every day, and made wonderful meals in the kitchen with the food we bought at several local markets. The location was also great, only 5 minutes to the town center. What really put this house over the top were the owners, Craig and Julie. They met us at the house and we’re extremely helpful, and went above and beyond what was needed to make us comfortable. We loved the decor and feel of the house in and out (loved the lavender, which you could smell sitting at the pit door table). just after we arrived, my husband had to leave to go back to Avignon to pick up the rest of our family which was going to be two hours and we hadn’t had time to get food, Craig offered to drive me into town to get supplies for dinner, and Julie helped my mother in law watch our two young children, and even changed a dirty diaper! This was certainly not expected, and was extremely helpful after a long day of travel. When we had questions during our stay, they were very prompt in responding and helped us navigate the kangoafe barrier when we needed a dinner reservation. We would not hesitate to book this property again, and we’re so grateful to have found this Mas with such lovely & attentive owners.
Beautiful, quintessential Provence setting
We had an amazing one week stay at the Mas de Mirabelles. The owners were very helpful and professional before arriving and speak perfect French and English. In fact, it was their helpfulness and friendliness which actually convinced me to pick this house over a couple other options. I felt that we would be in good hands if any problems arose. Additionally, they had good suggestions for things to see and do in the area. The house was ideally located - very close to Uzes and to a large Carrefour but also, very remote and quiet. We were 7 people: everyone had a place to sleep as well as plenty of different spaces for us to spread out and enjoy. The decor is quintessential Provence farm house. The beds are very comfortable and the linens were high quality. The outdoor dining area was one of our preferred spots, especially with the pretty lights on at night and the bbq grill was well appreciated! (There are mosquitoes but when we used the citronella candles and spray, it was ok.) The kitchen is great: everything worked wonderfully, it is well equipped and there is even a Nespresso machine. The Master bedroom and bath is comfortable and has its own entrance from outdoor. Our favorite feature of all was the pool: when we weren't out seeing the Pont du Gard (30min), Uzes (10 min), the Musee de Bonbons, the sea (1 hour drive away), Gordes (about 1 hour), Avignon (about 1 hour), Les-Baux-de-Provence, etc... we were in the pool!
The reason the house gets 4 stars and not 5 is because it was incredibly hot. We knew it would be incredibly hot because it was mid-July, however, we were told that the thick walls of the house would keep it cool and that was most definitely not the case. We were roasting day and night. Even with windows and doors open, it was stifling and it made it hard to sleep. I realize that Air Conditioning is pretty rare in the South of France but I think a small a/c unit in the bedrooms would have been a huge help.
Thank you again for a wonderful stay, we loved it!
So sorry to hear that you found the house stifling - but leaving the windows and doors open in the hight of a 'Canicule' is a recipe for disaster!
There's a very simple method for keeping the house cool in the height of the summer. Shutting the doors, windows and most particularly our wooden shutters ensures that the house stays cool from the outside heat. Indeed, we have people entering the house who comment on how cool it is....
We wait until the sun leaves the garden before opening the windows and shutters when the cooler evening air provides a pleasant breeze. When you arrived, I did have the shutters closed and also, we do leave an information folder about the house, so I'm disappointed to find that your experience at the house was not as good as it could have been. I would always recommend to anyone staying that if they have any dissatisfaction with the house to please please bring it to our attention so that we can - hopefully and if at all possible - ameliorate things for you.
Everything at This place is an invitation to Forget stress, to enjoy the swimming pool and Off course the sun present all days.
We’ll come back next year without doubt so don’t hesitate ... not @ the same period Than us 😊
Thanks a lot and see you next year
