Overview

About the property

House, , 2.5+ Baths, (Sleeps 2)

Although less than a ten minute walk from several small theatres, cinemas, noted restaurants, buses and underground stations, there is the illusion of being in the country. The large south facing garden surrounded by trees is free of traffic.

The dining room, under an award winning soaring glass conservatory, opens onto the garden and to a fully equipped kitchen.

From the central hall is a double living room and a playroom. Original mouldings, shutters and fireplace remain. Above are two double and two single bedroom. Two bathrooms; one is ensuite with a Juliet balcony over the garden. Two additional WC's.

The area is called Barnsbury in Islington, close to the British Museum, University College, British Library, Almeida Theatre, Chapel Street Market and several bookstores and restaurants in lively Upper Street. The West End, City and Museums are all within ten to fifteen minutes by bus or cab. Our one- way street is quiet, leafy and safe.

For small children, there is a rocking horse, sand pit, wendy house and tricycles. Older children can go to a nearby park with tennis courts, swimming pool and plenty of space for ball games. For adults, there is broadband access and a place to read the papers over coffee in the sun.

The house is usually available during the British School holidays: end of Summer, Christmas, and Easter as well as single weeks other times. In the summer, we offer roughly 6 weeks rental period during August and part of September.

We would hope that the house and garden would receive the care and consideration given to a home rather than a rental unit.

No Smoking, Please.

About The Owner

We are an academic couple who have lived in this house as our family home for many years.

Now semi-retired, we are away a lot so offer in our absence, our modest but quite ideal home and garden to discerning couple. We hope you will enjoy the experience of living here as a resident, who know his way around local street markets, theatres, pubs, shops and restaurants.

Tourist London is easily accessible, but quite different.

The Owner purchased this house in 1962

Why The Owner chose Islington

Who wouldn't love being in a comfortable house while visiting London instead of staying in a stuffy hotel?!

With its homely, airy and safe feeling our house is fantastic.

It is located in a really lovely area of London. Though 10 minutes walk to Upper Street; with its restaurants, bars, shops, cinema and theatre, it is a very quiet place.

What makes this house unique

Being in a house with a large garden in London zone 1 is quite unique! The village feel is also different than what most people experience when visiting London.

Guestbook comments from the owner

My family just finished a week's stay at this beautiful house and we cannot rave enough. We had a total of 4 adults and 2 children staying here and the house could not have been set up better for us. The location is absolutely ideal, on a beautiful quiet street yet only a few minutes walk away from a great pub, lovely parks for children and the excitement of the key shopping streets in Islington. The house itself is an absolute gem...full of beautiful artwork, books and family treasures. The rooms were very comfortable, the kitchen had every single item one could want and the garden was right out of a picture book. We just loved our stay so much. The owners were lovely to deal with and Jan the housekeeper who we met in person was just wonderful and helpful as well. We will look forward to returning to this beautiful house again and I can't recommend it enough for anyone wanting an amazing trip to London who wants to feel as if you are really living in the middle of one of the city's best communities. Thank you so much again!

A true haven - impossible to believe we were in Central London

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay in February this year. What should have been an incredibly stressful week of college visits, work and family get-togethers turned out to be the most enjoyable experience, thanks to the comfort and ambience of this marvellous house and the unending kindness of its owners. Our party spanned three generations from 12 to 80 years of age and everyone looked forward to returning home in the evening, my mother to sit and read quietly by the fire, the rest of us (not so quietly) to congregate and exchange stories in the huge kitchen/dining room. Even with six in the house, everyone had their own space and favourite sitting area. The immediate surrounding area is a hidden gem. My husband and I lived in London for many years but have never experienced such a village-like atmosphere - complete with local "pub" around the corner. Yet just streets away is High Street Islington with all its restaurants, shops and transport options. Staying in London will never be the same again!

Owner's Response: Thank you for such a sparkling yet sincere review. In fact, you were wonderful guests. You seemed to know how to enjoy the house to the hilt and you left it in the state a close friend would. Any time you are in London, please come back! Best wishes, Clare and Eric.

We stayed in this wonderful house last February. The owners were so helpful prior to our visit. It was convenient to the tube and a delightful neighborhood to walk around. We would definitely consider renting it again.
