Sitting atop a 50' granite slope that dips into the ocean and comfortably nestled in a lush Spruce forest, 'Connemara' is a spacious yet cozy multi-level home, perfect for vacationing families and friends, and an inspirational hideaway for artists, musicians, and writers.
Situated on the South end of Spruce Head Island, its ocean-side deck is the perfect spot to take in the natural beauty of the scenic Maine coastline, while schooners and lobster boats pass along Mussel Ridge Channel.
Inside, the open two-story living space with a cathedral ceiling includes a dining room overlooking the living room, with enhancements including a grand piano, a wood burning fireplace, eclectic décor, and a two-story wall of glass, overlooking the Atlantic.
Recently renovated, the house features a galley-style kitchen with views of the Spruce forest, four bedrooms (each with an ocean view and a king or queen-sized bed), two full bathrooms, a laundry and a storage room.
While 'Connemara' was originally designed to be a place where one could escape from the hustle and bustle of city life and continues to offer the peacefulness of an island retreat, it now has phone, wireless internet services and television.
Just returned from an amazing trip to Maine!! The Connemara was everything the listing said and so much more, beautiful large cabin in the woods, fully stocked with anything you might need, and the owners were wonderful to work with! September was a beautiful time to go, amazing views, smell of pine, and SO MUCH LOBSTER❤️❤️ Hope to return and stay at the Connemara again!!
This property provided a blissful getaway for us. Every direction you turn in the house features a stunning ocean or bucolic wooded view. A great place for restful reading on the deck, board or card games at the dining room table, or just cocktails sprawling in comfort in the living room surrounded by eclectic mementos of the owner's travels and career.
The modern galley kitchen was fully stocked with essentials and then some (even picnic accessories). The beds and linens were very comfortable and inviting. Breezes blew through the home even on the most humid and sultry of August afternoons. The location is ideal for short drives to Rockland or Port Clyde for seafood, ice cream, and great breakfasts.
The home is well maintained, and the owners and maintenance people are very accessible and helpful. They all felt truly "just a phone call or email message away." This was very reassuring for us as this was our first experience in renting someone's home for a vacation. Conducting the business part of the vacation arrangements with the owner was very easy, and documents and keys arrived when promised.
Our only mildly negative thing to add (and this will only apply to folks with mobility issues) is that the walkway from the parking area to the house is a downhill walk made of pea stones. While there is a railing at the top where the steepest portion of the walkway is, the short portion from the flat part of the walkway to the front door has enough of a downward slope that not having a railing made it tough for the member of our party who has had two knee replacements. However, this minor issue will not stop us from returning to this property again.
My husband and I were looking for a rental with a water view and boy did we get one. From the deck or from the inside, you feel like you're on a boat and you can hear the waves lapping on the rocks. We just went from sitting on the rocks to the comfortable deck furniture to the easy chairs facing the huge window to the ocean. The house is clean, comfortable and has the best cookware. We were inspired and only ate out twice in two weeks. We had a very special meal at Primo and great massages at Synergy in Rockland. The owners are available and really care that their guests have everything they need. Great rental!
For those interested in venturing off Spruce Head Island for a bit, there's plenty to do, nearby. Surrounding towns have wonderful food markets, restaurants, pubs, outlets, boutiques, antique shops, concert halls, theaters (movie, stage, music and comedy), bowling alleys, pool halls, galleries, museums, parks, beaches, and lighthouses. Clearly, there's something for everyone!
Outdoor activities also abound whether on or off-island including (but certainly not limited to): hiking, biking, rock climbing, golfing, coastal and deep see fishing, kayaking, paddle boarding, sailing and boating. In addition, there are multiple outdoor festivals, concerts and craft fairs, typically held in nearby towns, during the peak summer months.
'Connemara' is the perfect escape for all types of travelers who are looking for plenty (or nothing) to do, enjoying the Maine coastline and one another!
