It is built of stone of andesite, magmatic rock, present in the massifs of volcanic origin. From outside, the neoclassical building has 1 austere architecture as it is simple and refined: on the first 2 levels, a colonnade of semicircular arches, surmounted by 3 pediments-gables (characteristic of the Belle Epoque architecture).
In contrast, its interior architecture is rich with colorful decorations dedicated to water (mosaics, paintings) and Roman remains. 1 part of this establishment is classified as an historic monument.

Description Embrace the eyes 1 / 7th of France, it is possible. The Dore and the Dogne meet there and form the Dordogne which begins its long race until Gironde.
Magnificent panorama on the glacial valleys and the sharp ridges as well as on the volcanic Massifs of Cantal, the Chaîne des Puys, the Mézenc and on the Forez.
With favorable weather, it is even possible to observe the alpine massif!
Formerly, we called the Puy de Sancy, the Puy de la Croix because
1 iron cross was at the top. It was customary to make a pilgrimage in May to seek good weather.
The parish of Saint-Donat went there on August 6, the day of the Saint Sixte, quickly deformed in Sancy.
The Puy de Sancy remains, despite its mountain air,
1 real volcano. At the top, no crater,
it is 1 strato-volcano. A very complex system, 1 stratovolcano is made up of several volcanoes nested inside each other and whose eruption phases are not simultaneous.
Eruptive mouths sprouted lavas of different compositions and aspects, which explains in part the great variety of landscapes.
The Monts Dore volcanic massif, of which Puy de Sancy is the highest point, began its formation 5 million years ago and ended around 250,000 years ago.
As studies from the eighteenth century show, the Massif du Sancy was built in several phases of activities alternating with long rest periods.
There are all types of eruptive activities known in the world, hence a wide variety of rocks and materials. The last ice age, dating back 13000 years
by the action of glaciers, modeled the large valleys radiating around the massif: valleys of Chaudefour, Fontaine Salée and Haute Dordogne. The end of this period is marked by a new volcanic episode causing the formation of cones and lakes. Of these, Lac Pavin results from an eruption dating back only 6900 years ago
the most recent in metropolitan France.
