Why The Country Place Inc. chose Luray
From the front door at Misty River Retreat, throw a baseball into George Washington National Forest; then turn around and toss a Frisbee with your non-dominant hand into the South Fork of the Shenandoah River! Then step inside the screened porch and climb into the four-person hot tub after lighting the porch fireplace for romantic ambiance. The outdoor charcoal grill can be firing up for later shish-kebab roasting!
What makes this Cabin unique
This glass-walled master bedroom (queen bed) has private half-bath. Misty River Retreat sits along the outer elbow of the Shenandoah River so the 2-mile view up and downriver is astonishing. Have a group wanting more space? The optional Misty River Retreat Annex is a new one bedroom cabin (queen bed; private access to bathroom) on the same property. We built it in 2017 to accommodate the many requests for up to 10 guests at our original Retreat. It too has a small complete furnished kitchen with new gas range, bathroom with cedar stall shower, and living room with flat screen wall mounted TV, sofa bed (full size), towels/ linens included. Both cabins are rented to only one guest at a time.
Max guests:10 (sleeps up to 10 adults)

Great location on the river! We highly enjoyed being able to use the canoe. The fishing was great with waders or from the canoe and sitting on the deck was a highlight. We really appreciated having dry wood for the fire pit.
While the main house was very clean overall, the couches, throw pillows, and chair smelled moldy and dusty. This really set off harsh allergies for all who sat on them. The loveseat was especially bad. We were outside most of the day, but the furniture made it hard to relax in the evenings.
On the other hand, the annex was an awesome addition to the rental with 4 adults and 4 children. Our expectations were met based on the listing and we would stay here again.
The view of the river from this property is incredible. We explored the river quite a bit, and couldn't find a property with a better view. Beds and pillows were comfortable as well.
Labor Day weekend
We had a great time at the Misty River. We stayed here about 10 years ago and it's better than I remember! Very clean and has everything you need. Prime location on the river. Beautiful views and tunes, canoe, and paddles included. My 6 and 8 year old had a blast. We rented the annex house for a friend and it was great, too! Will definitely be back soon. We had a couple of minor issues (toilet needed new flush kit and outside light wasn't working) but they were fixed by the owners right away and they were really nice people.
Awesome River Retreat
LOVED the access to the river, the river views, the bedroom facing the river, the deck facing the river. The view downstream with the mountain in the background is SPECTACULAR and was ever-changing depending on the time of day and the weather. The house was basic and comfortable and clean. The annex house was much more updated in terms of plumbing and I suggest paying the extra to get the annex. Although you will want to stay in the main house for that awesome bedroom with all glass facing the river. Best Bedroom Ever.
Glad you had a good time in August 2019... your right... the master bedroom at Misty is the best ... can see the river thru both glass walls while laying in the bed...🤷🏻♂️
Relaxing by the River
This is a great location. The property has some wear on it but is completely functional. We greatly enjoyed playing in the river and taking advantage of hiking trails that were close to the property
It started when I received a "here's your keys to Misty River". Everything was explained, except how to open the door to get in. I called, A country place, the local contact. Gail was helpful and told me there was a lock box and gave me in combo. We could not find the internet sign on. Called Gail, she told me it was in 3 different places. Found it near only one place. Router was not plugged in. Found the cable in a jungle of wires under the couch, plugged it in, then it worked.
The picture of the hot tub over looking the river looked great. Problem, hot tub never got more then warm. Never used it again.
The kitchen came with salt and pepper. That was all that was provided.
The next morning my son showed me his iphone. A mouse had eaten it's cover. There were mouse droppings in the kitchen, bedrooms and living room.
Called Gail and left five messages about the mouse. She never returned any calls and I never heard from her again.
Finally got through to VRBO they wanted a picture of the mouse. Eventually got the owner. He seemed reluctant to do much and suggested that we check out. Since this is a rural area and we are from California, I'm not sure just where we were to go. He then agreed to have someone come to the house and clean up after the mouse (or mice) and set traps. The next morning we caught a mouse in one of the traps. No one came to clean up that nights mouse droppings. We left the mouse in the trap on the table and sent a picture of it, to prove there was a problem.
We actually had to paid money for this adventure.
