Beautiful loft with access to fire pit, steps to the city center!!
Victoria & Matt Sutherland were looking for a well-lit place to move their publishing business and kept coming back to a vacant building in the heart of downtown. A former cigar box factory built in 1920, and home to a variety of businesses in between, the dilapidated building had plenty of light, but needed some TLC. Over the course of four years, beginning in 2012, they worked with many local craftsman bringing the historically significant property back to life. _ _ _
Victoria purchased this Studio in 2011

Couldn’t be happier with our stay. Things were just how they’d been listed and I would strongly recommend this property! Thanks so much!
Loved our stay
Victoria has thought of everything. Great location. Felt right at home. Absolute perfection
Great Experience - Beautiful Courtyard
Had a great 3 night getaway at this property. Short walk to amazing restaurants. Everything was as advertised. Victoria and Matt were great hosts and very responsive with a couple questions we had about the area. Will definitely stay here again.
Great place to stay!
This studio apartment was the perfect place for my wife and I to stay during our 1st trip to Northern Michigan. It had everything we needed to make us feel at home. The bed and linens were very comfortable. The bathroom was squeaky clean. The kitchen had all the things a kitchen should have. The apartment a huge window that looked out into a nice courtyard. Although we didn't use the courtyard it looked like a great place to convene. Communication by text with the owner was fast and cordial. A two page "handbook" to the apartment and surrounding area was left for reference. The descriptions and recommendations for restaurants in the book were spot on. The main strip in Traverse is a very easy 5 minute walk from the property. Our trip to Northern Michigan was spectacular. We will definitely be back and hoping this property will be available when we return.
Perfect Spot for a Traverse City vacation!
We were very pleased with all aspects of this property! Very clean, modern appliances, and extremely comfortable bed! Victoria was an excellent host. We would absolutely stay at this property again!
Beautiful and walkable to downtown TC!
We loved our stay--clean, comfortable, and close to everything! We appreciated the kitchen, comfortable bed, beautiful decor, and location. Just two concerns ... The wifi was poor/ often down completely and there are no curtains on some of the windows. This led to waking with the sun--too early as we like to sleep in sometimes on vacation.
Thanks for staying with us and appreciating our space. We really appreciate the heads up on the wifi. You are the first to mention, but we want everything to be perfect and will get someone in there to see what the problem is, pronto.
Did you happen to see the packaged eye masks (and ear plugs) in the nightstand drawer? Sorry if you missed those, we understand light sensitivities and try to provide in order to accomodate our modern but awkward window features.
Traverse City area is becoming one of the hottest vacation destinations in the world. VITALIA offers a premium experience with restaurants, shopping, beaches nearby, with a quiet place to retreat. Park your car and relax with a great garden view.
We are one of the few self-catering, private accommodations downtown. The BOX, and the apartment over garage called Vitalia, are part of an historic landmark property and we've used our own extensive travel experiences to make this a relaxing escape with luxury fittings.
We run a business and live in the building across the courtyard, but respect our guest's privacy.
We are the edge of the historic Boardman Neighborhood. Front Street shopping, beaches and excellent restaurants, yoga studio, coffee shops, running and biking trails, movie theatre and Open Space where many festivals are hosted just minutes walk away. We also have a great natural food store to stock your pantry nearby.
Bus stops are just a block away if you have to venture further, but with this location, location, location, walking is the ticket once you park your car.
The Boardman River, which runs into Grand Traverse Bay, is accessible across the street if you would like to bring your water accessories: kayaks, canoes, SUPs, fishing rods.
The property is located on the corner of Eighth St. and Boardman Avenue, just five minutes walk from the heart of downtown and overlooking the Boardman River. Guests are invited to relax in a formal garden at The BOX, or stay inside during a rainy afternoon napping, reading or watching a movie. There is a full kitchen to exercise the foodie in you, with access to nearby natural foods market nearby and farmers market May-October.
