Overview

About the property

We Are A 3800 Sq Ft Log Home With 4 Bedroom And 31/2 Baths Situated On 35 Acres

Master bedroom with walk in closet and French Doors over looking the creek. Open the doors and listen the the creek as you fall asleep. Master bath has a double walk-in shower with a Jacuzzi hot tub and double sink.

Living room with TV is adjacent to master on 1st floor. Kitchen area has a ranch table with seating for 10. There is also a bar counter with seating for 6 so you can enjoy a glass of wine as your 'chef' prepares your meals. Kitchen has built in double oven and 5 burner gas counter top range.

Going up the stairs to the second floor, there is a walkway that bridges in both directions to 2 bedrooms and family room on one side; 1 bedroom and bath on the other side. The walkway crosses over the living room area and entrance hall . The kids can use the family room upstairs to hang out and play on the game table or watch the TV. Adults can catch a break enjoying a fire in the living room downstairs and watch their own TV.

My personal favorite is sitting on the screened-in-deck off the kitchen watching the wildlife with the creek running and bubbling.

The front of the house faces west and perfect for colorful sunsets over the hills.

About Jim and Maura Otzko

My wife and I are originally from the Chicago area and migrated to Milwaukee. Our 3 kids love the life when we come to the 'ranch'. Someday we intend on splitting our time between Colorado and Florida when I retire.

Jim and Maura Otzko purchased this house in 2006

Why Jim and Maura Otzko chose Gunnison

My wife and I searched all over Montana and Colorado for 10 years before finding the perfect spot for us. It's a combination of Gunnison Cowboy and Crested Butte laid back. We have horses and often cattle grazing out our front door and in our corrals. But what sold us was sitting outside drinking a cup of coffee or hot chocolate in a rocking chair with the warm morning sun coming up while the creek bubbles in front of us. Then enjoying the sunsets over the mountains at night. Several years ago, I brought my wife to Gunnison for the first time to show her the property I had found. It was December and as we walked out of a restaurant after dinner, it started to snow and just then, a horse drawn sleigh came prancing by in the street in front of us; she asked me how I had arranged that! She was sold.

What makes this house unique

Gunnison (or Gunny as everyone calls town) is a unique town. Over the Christmas holiday, the town puts up a hugh decorated Christmas tree in the middle of the main street, using a manhole for a tree stand. The holiday spirit is truely a wonderful experience.

We enjoy rafting down the Taylor river, although our kids were a little afraid the first time. The tour guides are great and there are some fast spots, but they tell exactly what to do. We had a family reunion and most of the crowd went rafting. Rafting rivers are rated from 1-5 and 5 being the most aggressive in difficulty, the Taylor is rated at a 2.5.

Bring your horses or rent some, we have 35 acres on a 1000 acre ranch and adjacent to millions of acres of government land. 3 of our pastures are fenced; 2 have water.

Hiking, walking and riding trails abound out your back door

If you come you have to go to the 'Gunny Sack' restaurant and have one of Dave's 'best in town' burgers. It's a Cowboy Bistro, try their made-as-you-wait chocolate chip cookies served with cinnamon ice cream and whipped cream on top. Delicious.

Crested Butte is the 'last great Colorado ski town', and it is. I've been to Aspen, Vail, Winter Park, Steamboat, Park City and Lake Tahoe and C.B. is the best, yet undiscovered, few if any lift lines and always something going on.

Our family loves the Gunnsion Cattlemen's Days featuring the oldest professional rodeo in Colorado. 4 days of bucking bulls and clowns, ets. Events happening daily in the 10 days before the rodeo in mid-July, don't miss the western flavor.

Finally, what town puts a 50' Christmas in the middle of main street, lit up and decorated for the holidays? Or what school puts a huge school initial on a mountain and then lighting it up at Christmas to announce the holiday season? Ya gotta come, obviously, our family loves it here and we'd love to share it with you.

This is an amazing place to stay. Beds are comfy, kitchen is well stocked, location is quite but not to far out of town.

Heaven on Earth!!!!!!!!

  • 5 of 5

Your beautiful home was just what our family needed & we will never have a summer w two little grand babies to rock on your FABULOUS porch! I didn't need to do anything each day but snuggle those babies on that porch while listening to the water & feeling the cool mountain air. Our family enjoyed being able to walk to backyard to fly fish & our 3 & 4 year olds LOVED throwing rocks n the water from island across the creek when they got tired of fishing w their little poles. They also enjoyed daily swings on the fun tire swing! We all enjoyed having weenie roasts n the campfire ring before making s'mores...it was nice to have table n screened n porch to run inside to during the rain that seemed to always hit as we enjoyed campfires.

Your comfortable home was PERFECT for our family n every aspect and being close to dining & grocery store was an added plus. We will definitely book again!

Fabulous Vacation Home!

  • 5 of 5

This vacation home was better than we could have imagined. Our first word as we walked in the door was "Wow!" Everything about this home is top notch, clean, and modern. The feeling of privacy and seclusion while we sat on the bench swing beside the river was wonderful. There is tons of space for people to lounge and relax inside and out. The master bathroom is the cherry on top that is certain to impress anyone. Thank you so much and we will be back again.

AWESOME!!!

  • 5 of 5

We have utilized vacation rentals by VRBO throughout the world and this is by far one of the best we have ever encountered. The master bedroom shower is incredible. The house is located in a very beautiful and secluded setting on Ohio Creek from which we caught trout. The swing near the creek is very peaceful. The kitchen is quite large and was very sufficiently stocked The game room with the foosball table was lots of fun. The house is in a very convenient location for fishing, mountain biking, golfing, sightseeing, etc. We would definitely like to come back to this lovely Gunnison home.

wonderful vacation

  • 5 of 5

Our second year, and better than last time. Some minor improvements have made this house even more special.

Quiet, peaceful, fishing out the back door, but close to all Gunnison and Creted Butte have to offer.

Thank you again for sharing your beautiful home!

Perfect!!!!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time on vacation in part due to the beautiful and very comfortable house. It is nice to come "home" and relax after a day of fishing and traveling around. The kitchen received a lot of use as we ate in each night. It was well stocked with the essentials. The screened-in porch was used each night for dinner....no bugs...yea. We watched a falcon in the trees hunt his dinner, humming birds feed on the porch and listened to the cows in the distance. The early morning walks (run for my sister) saw different wildlife and we heard coyotes several nights. A nice neighbor told us about the huge deer in the bushes near the house. He referred to it as Bambi's father given its age and size of rack. Several nights were spent around the outdoor fire ring and listening to the Ohio stream....very relaxing. Location was great - close to Gunnison for groceries, supplies and fishing. Conveniently located to fish the East River above Almont, Taylor river, East river headwaters in Gothic (above Crested Butte) and 3 streams around Blue Mesa Reservoir - all within an hour of the house. The owners (Jim) was easy to deal work and responsive to our questions and concerns.

Everything was perfect. The house is super clean and it was nice to have a washer and dryer available to us. We only wished that we had more time to spend there! Thank you for sharing your house with us.

We hope to be back again!
