Downtown Corrales is an historic village with many restaurants and galleries and is just a few minutes away. Santa Fe, with its' numerous historical and arts attractions are within a hour .Lots of outdoor opportunities are available including biking, hiking and birding along the irrigation canals and the Rio Grande Bosque Preserve.
The casita has one cozy bedroom, one bath and an extra room with a fold out couch. Most suitable for a couple but can accommodate two extra family members. Adobe construction with brick floors and high beamed ceilings. Very light and bright. Full kitchen and laundry. Private drive and outdoor patio area with stunning views of the Sandia Mountains.
Dana and Ron are artists. They built the casita and their home, located on the same property, with their own hands beginning in 1982. The casita was once their pottery studio but has been completely remodeled and updated into the beautiful space it is today. Their studio adjoins the casita but is accessed from a different driveway.
Ron McGowan or Dana McDaniel purchased this cottage in 1982
We love Corrales. It offers the convenience of the greater Albuquerque area with a quiet, rural atmosphere. We bought this property for the views and have remained because of the artist community. When we built, neighbors and friends helped each other raise roofs, lay adobes and brick floors and pour concrete. It's a special and unique village.
Corrales is a unique village located in a rural atmosphere but very convenient to all Albuquerque has to offer while being 1 hour from central Santa Fe. The Casita is a quiet , secure, well-appointed space ideal for a mature couple who enjoys outdoor activities, exploring different cultural sites and just relaxing and experiencing the uniqueness of New Mexico
Excellent! We were impressed with the comfort, roominess, and cleanliness of the space. We were able to watch the hot air balloons this morning as we had breakfast on our private patio with a great view of the Sandia Mountains.
Very comfortable casita and it is beautifully decorated. Great view of the Sandia Mountains. Everything we needed was provided Ron and Dana were great.
Handicap accessibility could be improved by adding grab bars in the shower and bathroom. Also building a small ramp to the front porch. Otherwise, it was fine. Thanks so much!
Our three-week winter stay in this Corrales casita was a delight. Although it was not Balloon Fiesta season, we often saw hot air balloons flying over the area. As many as seven balloons at a time were logging hours and enjoying the view from aloft while on the ground we spotted roadrunners, rabbits, and quail scurrying through the native landscaping beside the casita’s patio. In the distance, the Sandias were covered with snow and skiers. We saw the skiers up close when we celebrated the New Year in the Mexican restaurant at the base of the tramway. The casita felt like home with its Southwestern charms--brick floors, handmade pottery, original art, comfy red couches, and basketry placed on high in interesting spaces. The well-equipped kitchen was perfect for steaming traditional tamales and heating red or green chile sauces, brought back from the famous Range Café in nearby Bernalillo. We now live in the Midwest and miss living in the Albuquerque area. A lengthy visit to the Corrales casita made us yearn to return often. Thanks to personable, helpful hosts Ron and Dana our stay was relaxing and memorable. This casita is now on our permanent To-Do-Again Bucket List
We thought the place looked good when we booked it, but when we got there we found it to be even better than the pictures showed. It was clean and comfortable. Ron and Dana were very nice and made sure we had everything we needed.
We loved our weekend stay at this cute Casita! It was very clean and had an up-to-date feel. We stayed in the master bedroom along with a pack-n-play for our youngest. Our eldest slept on the pullout sofa in the spare room. The nights were cool, so we were able to use the fans provided and leave the window cracked for ventilation (else you would need to leave the bedroom doors open for the evaporative cooler to work. I made dinner and breakfast in the kitchen. It had everything I needed to prepare tasty meals. The best part of our trip was time spent outside on the very tidy patio. We were able to see the hot air balloon festival balloons with out morning coffee! The owners were easy to work with as was the property manager. A great layout home with everything we needed.
We went to village pizza and really enjoyed the food. We also walked a few houses up the road and got to meet some alpaca and llamas. Our girls loved it.
We just returned home from our trip to the Albuquerque area. It was a hard decision, never having been there, deciding where to stay. Since we stay at VRBO's most of the time, we decided to stay in the Corrales area, thus choosing the "Casita with Stunning Views of Sandia Mountains." What a FIND! It was the best VRBO we have stayed in with all our many travels. Our hosts were great. They gave us all kinds of information on where to go and how to get there the best way around the Balloon Fiesta traffic. As for the Balloon Fiesta, that was our main reason for coming to New Mexico. Everyone needs to go once in their lifetime -nothing like it anywhere else in the US! Now for the casita - it was perfect! It had everything you would need besides your groceries (and there was an Albertsons and Sprouts within a few miles). It even had a set of bathroom scales (which we didn't use because we were on vacation). The casita was even better than the pictures and was the cleanest place we have ever stayed. Every morning, during the Fiesta, balloons flew right over the casita. There was a nice area outside, that overlooked the mountains, where you could sit and watch with a cup of coffee, and not have to fight the crowds at the park. We wish we could keep this place as our "secret" hideaway, but that would not be fair to others who will enjoy it as much as we did. By the way, you will need a car if you stay here. It is about a 15 - 20 minute drive to Albuquerque, 15 minutes to the Santa Fe Railrunner Train, 20 minutes to the Sandia Tram, and about 2 minutes into the quaint town of Corrales. Enjoy!
