Come experience what Old Hickory Lake has to offer at one of the best lake front locations on the upper end of the lake. Located 25-30 minutes from downtown at the mouth of what some have called 'Quiet Cove', where the water is deep, the views are phenomenal, and every sunset is a postcard. The lot offers a short walk on a gentle slope to a covered slip complete with ladder to make swimming/floating/fishing easy. Located on a quiet cul-de-sac the area is perfect for afternoon or morning walks to enjoy some of the areas wildlife. Although you feel you are in the country, you are only a short drive to Opry Mills and the downtown entertainment district. The house offers open spaces that promote interaction and the spacious outside areas draw you to the shaded patio's and deck. The home has 2 kitchens which makes grilling and cooking convenient and keeps those doing the cooking a part of the festivities. There are two living areas in the house with a den upstairs with a heated floor and it's own deck adjacent to one of the upstairs bedrooms. The Master is on the opposite end of the house with French doors that open to a balcony overlooking the wall of windows on the back of the house. There is a bedroom and full bath downstairs with direct access to the patios and downstairs kitchen. The Master Bath has a large walk in shower with multiple shower heads, double vanity, soaking tub, and heated travertine floor for those cool mornings. I designed the house to promote interaction between the guests while still offering privacy if needed.
Having Grown up in the area and the son of a boat/water lover it has long been my desire to retire on the lake. Now that my kids are grown and on their own I am enjoying managing my VRBO properties and helping other families create memories.
Steve Addis purchased this house in 2012
I had the opportunity to grow up in the area and have enjoyed recreational activities on this lake for the last 45+ years, I have been able to identify what I consider premium lots/homes. I have been watching this particular property for the last 14 years while living at another location on the lake. When the opportunity to purchase came along I wasn't going to pass it up. Located on a quite cul-de-sac and private yet easily accessible, with a gentle slope to the water and deep water at the dock make this location unique. With the back of the house facing west the sunsets are unbelievable and the moons are awesome.
When I bought the house it needed a total gut/rehab. When re-designing the home I made sure the house was laid out as a vacation home with open areas and lake views from every room except the bathrooms. Without question this property is a slice of heaven.
This house is everything you would want and more. We had family ages 18-79 and everyone loved the house. Steve is such a hospitable owner. You couldn't ask for more of a friendly welcome and departure. In my opinion the house was even better in person than the pictures. Steve has everything in the house you would need from soap to dryer sheets. We hope to stay again here next year!
The house was better than we had anticipated, completely remodeled top to bottom. Access to everything was great with minimal travel. The lake is clean and beautiful with boat rental available and close buy. Good food at the marina too!! Steve is very nice to deal with and answers text and email promptly. We will definitely we going back!
This place is amazing! The views are just gorgeous!!
There is nothing that you could want while being on the lake staying in this house! All of the reviews speak for themselves. The owner Steve is very easy to deal with, even stopped by to make sure everything was ok. It's an A-plus from this family! We had a wonderful family vacation and even rented a boat from Sweetwater Rentals during our stay. That even added to our fun! If your looking for a great place for a get away or a family vacation, look no further and book this place!!!!!
We stayed here (10 of us) for 9 days. It was a mix of my family and my wife's with ages from 5 to 70 years old. The property is extremely clean inside which was really nice. Great instructions were left throughout regarding internet passwords, taxi services to use, and other tips.
The bedrooms were nice size but my one complaint is there is some room for improvement in regard to the mattress softness and pillow hardness but maybe that is just me. Most had no issue with the sleeping arrangements at all but if I had one improvement for the inside, that would be it.
The outside is where you will spend most of your time. The dock is spacious and stable. You can fish off the dock and catch fish pretty easily. We just used worms and bobbers and caught fish everyday. Nothing huge but blue gill and catfish were fun for the kids to catch. I am told there are 50 lb fish in the deeper parts of the lake. We rented a boat as most will probably do, and there is plenty of dock space so it is easy to dock each day. We had a double decker pontoon boat rented with a slide and I highly recommend getting one if you have kids on your trip. The barbecue is nice and we used almost every day. There are a lot of bugs at night so bring lots of bug lotion or do what we did which is just play games and have cocktails at night. There is cable but limited movie channels so iPads with movies through Netflix is a must if you have kids. There is an downstairs bar and pool table we used every day as well. Having an additional kitchen upstairs in addition to downstairs really made food storage and preparations convenient as kids were upstairs and adults were downstairs. Two refrigerators held tons of beers and soda and two dishwashers made for quick clean up. This place is about 50 minutes from downtown and we just either used Uber or used the rental car. It is about 40 minutes to the nearest marina by car and about 20 minutes by boat. There is a fire pit you can use for colder weather stays as well.
The water is really warm and great for swimming. There are however lots of logs in the water after a storm so you need to be careful swimming as well as docking your boat. Overall this was a great place to stay and worth every penny. Steve was also super helpful if we had any questions and is just a really nice guy that really represented southern hospitality. We are from California but grew up in the Midwest and we had forgotten how nice people can be. Thanks Steve!
Thank you Steve for sharing your beautiful home! It looked just like the pictures. It was like having to separate apartments under one roof, which with our group worked out perfect. Your home was very clean, well maintained inside and out, inviting and warm. We especially loved the patio with the fans. We spent most of our time there and on the dock watching the beautiful sunsets. Your view of the water was perfect. You definitely have a piece of paradise, so quiet and peaceful. Your home is located close to Nashville and local dining so we did not have far to travel. Thank you for responding quickly to my questions, and allowing us to share your home. We had a great time!

Our family of five (mostly adults) had a great time at the Carter Retreat. Working with Jeff was great in prep for showing up was easy. Our favorite parts of our stay:
- Front porch with fans looking out at the lake
- Close location to marina to drop in our boat
- Lots of room -- the house is huge and each of the bedrooms has a bathroom
- Pool table, 2 big screen TVs and a kitchen in the first level
- Windows, windows and more windows
- First class touch in decorating, furniture and appliances
- Really, really clean
- A great sand bar about a mile west in the lake where we anchored and partied with other families
- Nashville Jams -- a local eating place about 5 minutes away.
We got into Nashville for a couple of nights, but its a good 30 minutes to get downtown. It was a 100 degrees the week we were there so we just decided to stay local and in the water.
We recommend Carter Retreat and I can definitely see us heading there soon. It's only a 5 hour drive from Indpls so it was super convenient for us to drive, but it was a full get away.
