About Luther and Catherine Cash
Second Creek Farm is owned by Luther and Catherine Cash and is one of the last remaining authentic mountain farms beside the Blue Ridge Parkway. Luther grew up on the farm as did several generations of Seaman's and Cashes. Second Creek was a thriving sheep and cattle farm (cows still graze there Spring through Fall) and there were always a few work horses and a milk cow in the fields. The barns are unchanged, in fact you can still see where 'Dolly' and 'Dan' ate their hay and where their harnesses were hung. Luther manages the farm and wildlife habitats.
What makes this Farmhouse unique
Second Creek is one of those places where you can just feel the history. Boys in overalls helping Grandpa put up hay, cows resting under the sugar maple trees in the fields, hoot owls hooting at night from the top of the big pines up on the high ground. It is a place of perfect peace that is hard to describe.

Most peaceful place to getaway
We adored our getaway at Second Creek Farm! From sitting on the porch every morning w/coffee in hand while getting/giving love to Tomette (the farm cat) to viewing the starry sky at night. This is just the most peaceful place - and the cows don't moo or stink...truly...we still shake our head in awe over that (haha)! The cottage is so cozy and well-decorated and there is plenty to do in the area within an hour drive or so. Monticello, multiple antique shops, tons of hiking, good food/beer at local breweries - we could've stayed at least a week longer at this property! Thank you Catherine & Luther for sharing your beautiful place with renters :)
Nice folks. Left the house clean and neat. Welcome back anytime.
Always enjoy our time here.
We have stayed at Second Creek for the past 4 years and we always enjoy our time there. The house and property are perfect for our family with plenty for our young girls to explore. The location is great with access to hiking from the front door. We will be back again next year.
Second Creek Farm
My daughter, her friend, and I had a wonderful stay at the farm. Mr. Luther was very helpful in giving us weather tips and hiking suggestions. The directions were perfect and having the front porch light on was just what we needed. We loved the apple butter that he left for us and my daughter enjoyed the claw-foot bathtub. We had a nice sunrise walk to the pond and Abby took some really great pictures of the pond and surrounding area. Tomette was very cooperative letting Abby take pictures of her. The setting was so peaceful and allowed us to relax and unwind.
I hope to come back with my husband in the near future.Thank you again for checking in on us and making sure we were settled.
4th year in a row—love this place.
As always, had a very relaxing and peaceful stay. This house is by far the best thing about our annual trip to Montebello!!
best place to heal my heart
My husband and I first visited second creek on our anniversary last year. I fell in love with the serenity a pure place of beauty and great hikes and outdoor activities. My husband suddenly past away 6 months ago and I chose to return by myself- it was a perfect choice. A place where my mind is quiet, I will be returning soon and am so thankful for the Cash property!
Off the Blue Ridge Parkway and around the corner from the historic State Trout Hatchery. Just across the farm's creek is the trailhead to the Appalachian Trail, Spy Rock and Crabtree Falls and some of the best hiking and trout fishing in Virginia. Several wineries are a short drive away as are a number of apple orchards and on-farm markets.
