Perfect location-Needs maintenance!

  • 2 of 5

We just rented this cabin for the long Labor Day weekend. I want to start by saying that the location was perfect! The cabin is nestled down by a stream on a quiet gravel road. We really felt like we were away from it all, but still close to town to do tourist things. We walked both Ellijay and Blue Ridge historic downtowns, and rode the train. All very enjoyable.

However, I want to tell people this cabin needs some serious maintenance. We choose to stay in a "rustic" cabin on purpose and not a hotel, so we are aware that this is not five star hotel accommodations. With that being said- the screen doors are ripped apart, and therefore you cannot leave the doors open for fresh air/bugs. The upstairs deck has rotted floor boards, and cannot be walked on at all. The stairs down to the front door entrance and to the stream are also rotted out. There were several nails pointing out on the top of the interior stairs treads where you walked to the top of the loft. This might be normal, but we have young children, and we felt like this cabin was dangerous. At any time they could've gotten their feet stuck in the rotted holes in the wood, or cut the bottom of their toes with the nails on the stairs pointing directly out.

Lastly, I want to say that sleeping here was unbearable!!!!! Every single mattress and pillow has to be over 10 years old. The pillows are so awful we considered going into town to buy pillows at Walmart. I have never ever had such terrible pillows and mattresses, we had to use some random throw pillows to sleep. Again, we know this is not a five star hotel, but goodness-pillows are not a huge expense to replace!

Unfortunately, I would not consider staying here again. We were so excited to come up from Tampa and spend time in the mountains- which we miss terribly from back home, but this place was uncomfortable and unsafe for a young family. If the owner goes in and make some repairs and updates the bedding deficiencies--THIS PLACE WOULD BE A GEM!

Owner's Response: I live in Florida and unfortunately my job prohibits me from visiting my cabin as much as I would like. I was recently there in early September and I am aware of the exterior wood that needs to be replaced and the condition of the screen doors. In fact, I hired some one to do all the repairs and replace the doors while I was there. Repairs will have to be scheduled in between rentals but should be completed by November. I am also replacing the front steps and the steps going down to the creek. As far as the mattresses and pillows: the king bed in the master bedroom was replaced new 2 years ago and it was not a cheap mattress! I will not be replacing it any time soon. The upstairs mattresses are order and I will replace them next trip if need be. This is the first complaint I have received. The pillows are necessarily replaced frequently and I am sure that there is not one that is close to 10 years old. I will replace them as well, as needed, ( the master pillows are new). My caretaker keeps me informed when sheets, pillows and supplies are needed and I am bringing new at least once a year when I go up. My cabin is rented back to back during the summer and fall months and a lot of wear takes places. I do appreciate any feedback from my reviews, good or bad, and I always try to make any improvements necessary to keep my quests comfortable. I am sorry that this was a bad experience for you. Most of my reviews are very good (4.5 stars out of 5) and it is impossible to please everyone, but again, I do appreciate your coments and suggestions. I assure all my quests that necessary replacements and repairs are being taken care of.

We had a nice stay. Everything we needed was there, including plenty of towels. The hot tub was enjoyable. The only thing stopping me from giving it five stars were the steps leading into the creek. We could not get into the water from there and had to use a ramp that was 2 houses down.

Relaxing, tranquil, beautiful views

This is our 2nd time staying at this property with our kids. There's plenty to do for the kids in the creek. The cabin has everything that you need. The beds are comfy, the cabin is cozy, and the porch is relaxing.
