Spend a magical Fall or Winter weekend at this fantastic house that sits just steps away from its own private beach. Our house is fantastic in the fall and winter, the colors are gorgeous and you'll feel like you are floating on the water that surrounds the bright, open living area while staying warm next to the large stone fireplace. The master bedroom has a queen bed, private bath and entrance from the deck with ample closet space. The two back bedrooms each with queen beds have beautiful light and a chic, simple decor. The children's bedroom has a bunkbed with a trundle. The brand new kitchen features all new appliances: Viking stove, fridge, Miehle dishwasher and a breakfast bar. Serve dinner in the dining room area or on the 10' large custom-made outdoor table with the ocean lake right there or on the deck, spend days reading on the secluded beach or take a nap on the floating swimming platform. Or just enjoy the sounds of lapping waves from the hammock on the deck that always catches a westerly breeze coming off the lake--no bugs! Washer and dryer, outdoor shower, and Le Creuset cookware as well.
It's perfect for families--you'll have plenty to do with a dinghy, 2 paddle boards, 2 surfboards, 3 kayaks, 3 bikes, a swimming platform an outdoor shower and plenty of lawn for football games or tetherball. Take the paddle boards and kayaks across the lake for lunch at Gosman's or explore the sealife along the shore. The beach's shallow water is great for children. For dinner just walk down the beach at sunset to Rick's Crabby Cowboy or the Fish Bar. Charter a boat with Captain Jimmy George at the marina down the beach and catch Striped Bass which you can eat all week long. Gin Beach, Montauk's prettiest beach is just down the road and Ditch Plains, the best surfing beach is just 2.5 miles away. Your private beach is set up with umbrellas, beach loungers and side tables. Build a fire in the beach fire pit and cook hotdogs and s'mores as the sun goes down. Go to sleep with the sound of the water lapping at the shore. It's really dream-like.
We are a family of three. Mom is a long-time fashion editor and Dad is a full-time musician. We have a six-year-old son. We live in Brooklyn and Montauk.
brandon holley purchased this house in 2013
We've been spending summers in Montauk for 17 years when we found this magical place and decided we had to have it. The house, situated steps from the water, is filled with light and sparkling reflections of water on the walls. Sunsets are amazing. The constant gentle breeze means no mosquitoes. You'll feel like you are floating on the water here.
Very private. You enter down a long driveway and into an open cleared yard with the water right there. Your family will be quite content to spend the most time here, with fishing, swimming, kayaking, paddleboarding and hammocks in the shade. At night you fall asleep to the waves lapping the beach.
What a place! Montauk is gorgeous, and this home is tucked away down a private drive, but with access to all the best of Montauk. The home is clean, spacious, and inviting, with huge windows and a big living area, high peaked ceilings, ceiling fans, and a great big porch. The location is perfect too, right on the lake, so we were swimming, catching clams, fishing, and windsurfing just out front all day. A short walk down the lakeside little beach is a marina and a great restaurant. We biked all over, to town and to other good spots to eat and shop. Accross the street is a short walk/bike to the ocean and a fantastic beach where people were camping. I definitely highly recommend to anyone to stay here, and we can't wait to go back. Thanks Brandon for a fantastic trip. PL
We rented Brandon's house with a few friends and spent a week there. It was perfect! The house is situated so nicely right on the lake - great light-filled and airy space. The private lake is great, and it's easy to get to other beaches for some waves and surfing. The grounds are lovely - we all lazed on the porch and grilled and swam and didn't want to leave!
We went to this house with a bunch of friends and had a really great time - it has it's own private lake beach access and is close to the ocean beaches in Montauk. There was lots of room for us and we cooked and had big dinners and swam and surfed and all from this friendly, open light-filled house. It was awesome.
This house has a beautiful location and the private beach is amazing. We rented paddle boards and had fun using them right in the water behind the house. However I would only recommend this house for one or two couples who plan on eating out all week and not really spending too much time in the house. There is no room in the freezer to store your own food and no available cabinet space for your own groceries. We brought our four children who were very disappointed that there was only one small tv in the master bedroom and the wifi and cable went out in the middle of the week. There were lightbulbs missing in a few lamps so it was hard to read at night. The bedrooms and bathrooms were clean but the kitchen was dirty and foul smelling so we were not comfortable cooking in it. This house has a lot of potential because of the location, but in my opinion is not renter- friendly for a family with children at the price we paid.
My family and I totally enjoyed our stay. Even the dog had the time of his life:-) The location is great... it has the private lake beach with a firepit, and is walking distance to three great restaurants. There's also the grill if you choose to hang home and enjoy the view which we also did! Will definitely stay there again.
I booked a seven night stay starting May 23rd and had invited friends to join me. I knew I was in trouble the day before I left when I asked the owner how I would arrange to get into the house. She informed me that the house is unlocked because tenants keep losing the key. I explained that I would not stay in a house I could not lock so a key was arranged for.
The kitchen, which was supposed to be well equipped, had pans with flaking Teflon coating and/or were filthy. There was insufficient lighting to comfortably read at night. Two of the bedrooms had single light bulbs. The designer furniture was no longer there. The kitchen and outdoor table were broken. There is a single small television in one of the bedrooms that had no place for people to sit other than the bed. The outdoor shower has no curtain or other means of providing any privacy --it is just a shower spigot.. There were "matching" chairs in the living room and one of the bedrooms that had coils falling down from the chair and looked like they had been picked up off a sidewalk. They did not look clean enough to sit on.
I notified my friends not come and left the following morning. It was a terrible experience. I had stayed at several other homes booked through vrbo and always gave fabulous reviews. This was a terrible experience that I would not recommend to anyone.
Montauk is a magical mix of an old fishing village and one of the most popular vacation destinations in the world with great restaurants, shopping and entertainment. You can charter a deep sea fishing boat that's docked within walking distance from the house and catch huge striped bass, go hiking, sailing, surfing, eat amazing food from Manhattan's best chefs who've opened restaurants here in the past few years or discover pristine beaches with no one around. Make Montauk what you want: private and isolated with lots of empty beaches: catch your own dinner and grill it at home or go out and eat, drink and dance all night. It's great for families with lots of swimming (surf beaches or gentle beaches, and lakes with sailing and paddle boarding). There's mini golf, a famous golf course, tennis, horseback riding, mountain biking on incredible trails, fishing--everything you could want for an amazing family vacation.
My personal favorites are Rick's Crabby Cowboy which is a short walk down the beach for an overstuffed lobster roll. Gin Beach is the prettiest beach in Montauk and is just a quarter mile down the road. Kayak across Lake Montauk to Gosman's in just a few minutes and eat dinner there. Hike the many trails that start just across the road or go to Ditch and eat at Ditch Witch and surf and boogie board. For a romantic dinner go to the Crow's Nest for a fantastic dinner at sunset--the ambitious can kayak there from the house. Book a fishing trip with Captain Jimmy George who docks at Rick's Crabby Cowboy early in your trip and catch enough striped bass to feed your entire group for one week. A good day trip is to take the bikes to Shelter Island and have lunch.
