Beachfront Studio - 2 Queen, 1 Bath, Balcony Overlooks the Sea; NEWLY RENOVATED
About Marien Kaifesh
We are from Cleveland, Ohio USA and have two daughters (one graduated Ohio University in 2013 and one graduated The Ohio State University in 2016 and is now attending Medical University of South Carolina Pharmacy school in Charleston, S. Carolina). We've been married 30+ years and have vacationed in Hawaii, Tahiti, California, Florida, Bahamas, Bermuda, Europe, the Caribbean, and the west coast of Mexico, but nothing beats Cancun! It is our hands-down favorite! Here's why..... Cancun has smooth white sandy beaches, beautiful warm blue water, historic Mayan ruins, fantastic (reasonably priced!) restaurants, lots of activities, and service-oriented locals who are warm and friendly. What more does a person need? Nothing! A bathing suit, beach towel, sunscreen and a few casual outfits and you're set! Don't bring too many clothes or shoes! You won't wear them all! We first came to Mexico in 1985 for a holiday in Manzanillo on Mexico's west coast, but didn't like the brown sand and cold Pacific ocean. We tried, Acapulco and Puerto Vallarta, too, and got the same result. Then in 2000, we went to Cancun to celebrate my parent's 40th wedding anniversary and did an all-inclusive holiday on the Riviera Maya (south of Cancun). While we loved the resort, our unit was far far away from the Sea. In fact, you couldn't even SEE the ocean from our unit! We continued to come back to other all inclusives on the Riviera Maya, trying different ones, but could NEVER get a Sea view. We always overlooked a garden, or pool, but never the elusive Caribbean Sea. My sister purchased a unit at Cancun Plaza in 2007 and invited us to come see it. We were skeptical. It wasn't an all inclusive and it was in Cancun 'proper' -- on the Strip. I heard it was very 'commercial!' She assured me we would love it and she was right! We bought something before our vacation to Cancun Plaza was over! Commercial? Not this end of the strip! No dazzling lights; no loud music! Peace!
Marien Kaifesh purchased this Studio in 2011
Why Marien Kaifesh chose Zona Hotelera
We have been coming to Cancun (specifically, Riviera Maya) since 2000 but could never get a room right on the beach. We were never really interested in Cancun and we weren't sure how safe it was. But after visiting my sister's studio apartment at Cancun Plaza, we were sold that Cancun Plaza was for us! No long walks to/from the pool or beach! No rocky beaches! It's SAFE! The view is stunning! In real estate it is all about location, location, location, and this is no different! You can't get a view like this in too many places without paying a fortune. In the USA, if you pay $100+ a night for a room, you will probably be overlooking a parking lot or dumpster! This is a champagne view on a beer budget! My friends say it is a "Million Dollar" view. We agree! This unit has everything you need...transportation, restaurants, ability to cook your own meals, infinity pool, white sandy beach, etc., all with a quaint Mexican feel. We feel safe even on the buses at night. We started looking at several places, but we decided upon Cancun Plaza because of the unobstructed Sea views and how compact the property is. No long walks to get to anything! Oh, and did we mention the view?? Nothing stands between you and the Sea except a beautiful strip of white sandy beach! We have a sparkling INFINITY POOL overlooking the Sea where you could spend all day just people watching those walking the beach. There is a separate shallow end for young kids and a deeper section for the rest of us. There is an on-site restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They have a full bar as well as a wood-fired pizza oven. No need to leave the property or cook, if you don't want to. Is Cancun Plaza perfect? No, but it is close. When you are this close to the salty Sea, it quickly takes a toll on the building, appliances (especially air conditioning!), but it is worth it for the proximity to the Sea!
What makes this Studio unique
NEWLY RENOVATED! Location, location, location! You can't beat the 180 degree view of the beautiful blue Caribbean Sea from your private balcony. That was the deciding factor of buying here. Some places may have a partial ocean view, or a little peek of the ocean between buildings, but we have THE view! You don't even have to leave your bed! You can see it just laying there! Every day you will say, 'Look at the color of that water!' You will probably say it 20 times during your visit! All inclusive resorts are nice, and we have been to many of them, but after a while, it gets boring. You feel like you have to stay on property to get your money's worth. Or you feel that you can't get off the property because you are so secluded and far away from everything that it would be a king's ransom in taxi fares. At mega-resorts, you have to take a trolley to/from the beach or to the restaurants, and heaven help you if you forgot something in your room and have to trek all the way back to get it! Not here at Cancun Plaza! Our unit is 60 seconds from the pool and 90 seconds to the beach. The buses run just outside the front gates. No long walks to get anywhere! Don't waste your precious vacation time wandering around huge resorts; come to our condo and immediately relax! My custom made guest booklet gets you acclimated before you even arrive! My videos show you where everything in the complex is! You'll feel totally comfortable since I've provided you everything you need to know. Florida is not always warm and has so many bugs, jelly fish, and frequent bad weather. The west coast of Mexico has brown sand and the cold dark Pacific Ocean. Hawaii is expensive and too far to get to. Cancun safe, affordable, and beautiful! We love it here and hope you will, too! Please check my calendar for availability and rates. We hope to welcome you soon! We've recently renovated our bathroom! It's stunning! We've also added free private WIFI and Amazon Firestick TV.

Beautiful beach view but needs some tweaking
The view from the unit cannot be beat! The balcony is cramped, just enough room for the chairs and a small table. There are two
Air conditioning units that sit out there, blowing hot air on whoever is sitting next to it making it very uncomfortable.
The room has too many random pieces of furniture in it. Mount the tv on the wall and get a small cabinet for the audio equipment. Then you could have two chairs that people could actually just relax and visit in, instead of the armoire, table, metal shelf, and butcher block that is lined up along the wall.
The water cooler is a nice feature, we appreciated that.
The blow dryer kept turning off, I think the plug is bad in there. The hot water took forever to warm up, like 10 minutes!
When we checked in, Carmen was not very welcoming. She was quite abrupt.
The location is not near hardly any restaurants. There is an on-site one that was okay and a place called 19.5 across the way. That place has one million mosquitoes!!! Even after spay, I got bit over 10 times at dinner. Then, my husband threw up about an hour later... we did not go back.
If you want to take the bus, it is super easy. But the ride is pretty far to get to a restaurant. We normally like to just walk to a place but that is not possible here.
We enjoyed the pool, but there is a light in the pool that is hanging out and I have to be honest, I was scared it was going to electrocute me.
Pool access and beach access is easy, but I hated walking by the guys who are trying to sell an excursion everyday.
It is a nice quiet beach. Very clean complex.
This was our 15th trip to Mexico so we knew what to expect, it was a nice trip but as I said, it could use some upgrades. I hated having the grill stored inside the room! I also received a message everyday to remember to take out the trash, which was flat out annoying.
Enjoyed our stay
My sister and I enjoyed our stay in Cancun. The condo was very comfortable, communication with the owner easy and the beach is outstanding! Also, the staff is very friendly and very helpful. Would stay here again.
The View Was Fantastic
The view from balcony was great, sunrise is great. You are right on the beachfront. We got to see the sea turtles come on the beach to lay their eggs. Marien was very helpful with information about the airport, transportation, and everything at the Cancun Plaza. Whenever I emailed her with a question she emailed me back and was always helpful. We had a great time .
Helpful owner, cluttered condo
Pros- the owner was extremely responsive and very helpful with setting up.transportation to the unit from the airport, recommending restaurants and excursions and providing a large amount of info about the area.
Cons- The unit is extremely cluttered. It feels like it is filled with things leftover from past guests, old magazines, mouthwash, half used lotions, etc.
The unit has two comfortable beds on one wall but the other wall has a tv armoire, a large table and two strange wheeled carts. There is not any place to put away your clothes (no dresser) so we had no choice but to live out of our suitcases. One of the carts is filled with old Tupperware. Another just has old paperbacks.
The unit would be much nicer with a dresser and without the carts filled with leftover belongings. The bathroom had the same issue, lots of leftover items from past guests but no room for our stuff. Felt so cluttered that everyone in my party complained daily. There is a shelving until above the toilet with half used mouthwash, lotions and lots of containers of leftover soaps and toothbrushes. I would have appreciated less clutter and more space to place our belongings.
Overall, it felt so cluttered that it impacted our enjoyment of the trip. We ended up spending as little time as possible in the unit and at the property. It could be nice if the table and carts were replaced by a large dresser and the bathroom were tidied to allow for guests belongings.
Second time here and won’t be the last!!
This was my second time to stay at this property in the last few months!!! Cannot recommend highly enough!! Great communication, value, and view!!!!
Great location and stay
This condo was at the beginning of the hotel zone. Nice and quiet, but close enough that you can get to everything in a few minutes. Would recommend staying to anyone!
Thank you for recommending us! ~M
Newly renovated in Oct. 2017! Thank you for considering our lovely top-rated studio unit at Cancun Plaza Condominiums. We are one of the most highly rated units in the entire complex! Read our reviews and then compare against the others. Think about what will make you happy.... Is it an unobstructed view of the Sea? A comfortable pillow-top bed? A private balcony where no one can gawk at you? A cheap price? Now check how we compare with the others. I think you'll see that we come out on top!
Cancun Plaza Condominiums are privately owned units located at the quiet southern end of the Hotel Zone (near Club Med and Punta Nizuc) on the best beach in Cancun! At KM 20.5 on Kukulcan Blvd., the airport is an easy 10-15 minutes away via taxi, pre-arranged transportation or rental car (free parking on site). Upon booking, I provide you information on everything you need to know from Mexican Immigration/Customs, to airport transfers, to where to eat, shop, and visit! I answer all your questions promptly and when you get there, you'll feel more like a family member than a tourist. No car is necessary during your stay as inexpensive public bus and taxi services are readily available just outside the front gates.
Don't forget to watch our descriptive VIDEO under the 'Manager Info' tab (under Additional Information).
Our smoke-free unit is on level 2 (zero being beach level and then the sea wall below that), so you actually feel like you are on the third or fourth floor. High enough to oversee everything but not too high for those who do not like heights. From your balcony, watch the cruise ships sail by nearly every evening, and if you happen to awaken in the wee hours, you may see them slowly making progress until they cruise that last hour into Cozumel.
Don't miss the ferry to Isla Mujeres ($19 USD round trip) where you can spend the day touring around on a golf cart, sunning, snorkeling, zip-lining, swimming with dolphins, eating, and shopping. We love to rent a golf cart (about $40 USD) to get to the rugged South Point (Punta Sur) where you'll find ruins of an ancient temple to the fertility goddess, Ixchel, as well as an international sculpture garden ($3 USD admission fee). Or, you can walk from the ferry dock to the North Beach and enjoy a day in the sun there or wander the quaint streets of restaurants and shops.
Back on Cancun, if you want nightlife, take the bus 15-20 minutes north where there are plenty of restaurants and bars in the very safe party zone. All the bars you have heard of like Senor Frogs, Coco Bongo, Hard Rock, etc., are here. The new RED Casino is just 10 minutes up the street (highly recommend!).
Those interested in visiting cultural areas have many options in the nearby (walking distance) ruins of El Rey, the newer Mayan Cultural Museum (10 minutes by bus), and attractions further afield like Tulum, Chichen Itza, Coba, Xcaret, Xplor, and many others! We can provide you information on tour providers and how to book them.
Our onsite manager, Carmen, in unit #2104 is happy to assist you with any issues that may arise and she can also lend you boogie boards and books. If you have forgotten anything, just ask! Carmen may have it!
Our dedicated and private internet is free and ensures you stay in touch with the world while on vacation! Others offer wifi, but it is not always dependable! Ours is!
The best time to visit Cancun? Anytime! We have been there in all seasons including September through November when it is considered not as desirable. Obviously the winter months of December through March are great months to come, but May - September brings the sea turtles laying their eggs on our beach and August - October is when the turtle babies hatch, and we are invited to help release them into the Sea to start their life's journey. It is quite a sight from your balcony seeing these large turtles swimming in the Sea after a long night of laying eggs. I have also seen dolphins jumping in the Sea, but you will need to look closely for them as they are a bit further offshore. We also have many pelicans diving for fish and a nest of osprey on the tower of the hotel just to the north of us. In the afternoon hours, you can see the osprey diving for dinner and bringing an entire fish in their talons and flying it past your balcony enroute to delivering it to the family nest.
We hope you will enjoy our little bit of paradise!
Note: Our unit is not affiliated with BSEA Cancun Plaza. BSEA is a private group of units trying to run themselves as a hotel. We are not a hotel; we are private owners. We pay Mexican taxes and have full ownership (we are not a timeshare). When something breaks, we pay to fix/replace it. When the towels and sheets get worn out, again, we replace them. You are renting our vacation home, and we are pleased to welcome you as our guest. We want you to be comfortable and feel at home. 'Mi casa es su casa' ('My home is your home').
