Photos and Description of this 5 bedroom holiday farmhouse in Cornwall-on-Hudson - The Grey House

Nature Lovers Farmhouse

Dreaming of a very relaxing vacation in a private, quiet place, with lots of activities nearby?

Our three-story Victorian farmhouse is the perfect place to spend time in the Hudson Highlands. Located in the Village of Cornwall on Hudson, near all the best that the Hudson Valley can offer, the house is part of a 46-acre retreat center.

The house is cozy, rustic but very clean and comfortable all year long. Overlooking Storm King Mountain, a state park on the Hudson River, the house is surrounded by beautiful woods and meadows that include hiking trails that connect with the trails leading to the Hudson Highlands Nature Museum and to the top of Storm King Mountain.

Deer, wild turkey, birds and foxes are regularly seen roaming our grounds.

A labyrinth for walking meditation or simply for walking in a beautiful setting invites personal reflection or simple relaxation. Inquire about what’s fresh in the organic vegetable garden.

The house is five minutes from the center of Cornwall on Hudson and its restaurants, parks at the Hudson river, kayak and canoe rentals, and other amenities. A twice-weekly farmer’s market is five minutes away. A short drive will take you to one of the most beautiful outdoor sculpture parks, the Storm King Art Center and the 3,850 acre Black Rock Forest Preserve. West Point Academy is only 15 - 20 minutes away. Just across the river, DIA Beacon is also a great attraction for art lovers.

For shoppers, Woodbury Commons Outlet is also only 20 minutes away!

The farmhouse features a first floor with kitchen, dining room, living room, den, and one full bathroom, a second floor with four bedrooms (one with a queen size bed, one with two single beds and two with a single bed) and a bathroom, and a third floor, as large as the entire house, with four single beds. All bedrooms have fans or air conditioning. A charming front porch and a huge backyard surrounded by woods invites you to relax after a day of hiking or exploring the Hudson Valley with its many hiking trails, parks, and charming villages and towns.

Ideal for family, friends or small group retreats. Open year round.

Give yourself and those you love the gift of peace, natural beauty, rest and renewal.

Great getaway home for large groups

  • 4 of 5

As a West Point graduate I know there is a real shortage of lodging with any reasonable proximity to post, so with the Women's Conference in April and wanting to stay with several of my classmates, I knew a house would be the only real option. I was so happy to find this online and the property was everything we needed it to be. Since we had to use Thayer Gate it was a little over a 20 minute drive to West Point, but even that was so much better than staying in Poughkeepsie or even farther down the road. If you have a DoD ID and can use any of the gates, you could probably be on post in 15 minutes or less.

We had 8 adults and 2 kids and there was plenty of room for all of us. The kitchen though small was perfectly adequate, since we did very little cooking - mostly coffee and reheating of the pizza we brought home the night before. The full sized refrigerator was great for all of the snacks we brought and it was nice to have the basics (sugar, salt, etc.) for our morning coffee and meals we did eat there.

The layout of the house lets you have plenty of privacy in the sleeping arrangements but also allows for a slumber party if you get the attic bedroom! The beds were comfortable and no complaints from me or any of my friends. It was also very clean, and the linens provided were more than adequate.

The one challenge we had was the showers, and it was very minor - the shower heads are very low and you have to bend this way and that in a tight spot, but even with ten people, the two bathrooms were sufficient and there was plenty of hot water!

We were disappointed that the weather didn't cooperate so we didn't get to use the outdoor area, but we made up for it by hanging out around the dining room table and in the living room where we caught up on almost 20 years of stories for some of us who haven't seen each other since graduation. The backyard did look lovely, and it was HUGE, so it would definitely have been a great party area but for the rain!

Simonetta was SO EASY to work with - easy arrival, easy departure, and quick refund of security deposit. I will definitely consider this property for future reunions and group trips to West Point!

The Grail

  • 3 of 5

Great location for events at West Point and around Cornwall. An older house with lots of character. We felt very welcomed and enjoyed our stay. being met at the door and given a tour upon our arrival was also very welcoming. My friends and I plan on staying here again.

Wonderful weekend in the Hudson Valley

  • 5 of 5

We were celebrating a friend's birthday over the weekend and needed a place close to Beacon and Newburgh. We found this lovely rustic house managed by the women of The Grail Movement. Simonetta was very accommodating to help manage 3 couples and our 7 month old son. The house was very clean and had most amenities available for a long weekend (no washer/dryer though). It is central to most of the Hudson Valley's attractions. We had a celebratory dinner at the house on our last night and it couldn't have been more perfect (complete with a lunar eclipse!). We would happily recommend this house.

Awesome rental home

  • 5 of 5

I rented this house the last weekend in June with my family for a cousin's wedding at West Point. We absolutely loved the house. The house is in a great location, off the beaten path and on amazing grounds. We saw plenty of wildlife - deer playing in the yard, squirrels, etc. We were able to have a family reunion and there was plenty of room for everyone to move about and mingle.
