Sitting atop an artist studio, the second floor is a private guest room with a private entrance and a porch with a view of the woods and fields. The room has a queen bed, bathroom with a shower, microwave, coffee maker and a mini fridge. An outdoor grill can be made available.
The apartment is one of many buildings on an 80 acre private residence. Guests have access to over 2 miles of walking trails. A tributary of the Suwannee River (Robinson Branch) running thru its middle with a bridge to another part of the property.
Foxes, hawks, deer and nesting eagles are your neighbors. Deer ofter ramble around the fields and are reminders that you are in the country.
We offer sattelite tv service but no internet. Remember, you want that country living experience.
The house is 6 miles from the Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park... ideal for those wanting to experience the Folk Festival.
Its very private and very much in the country. Peace and quiet are the main attractions. No traffic noise here as we are 1/2 mile down a dirt road. The moon and the stars are our best neighbors.
Randy and Melissa love the great outdoors. Both are avid woodworkers. Randy is currently working on his second timber frame building, while his wife turns the leftover wood into bowls.
Randy built all the buildings on this property with an eye towards the Florida Cracker style.
Melissa Russell purchased this apartment in 1990
Why not? Its beautiful! 80 acres to meander in private. We can bird watch, catch foxes on our game camera and keep an eye on Monroe the gator who has taken up residence in our pond. A leisurely walk before breakfast is a must.
Privacy! Quiet! Peaceful! Getting away from it all is its most precious feature.
Step away from stress and decompress at this charming country setting. Experiences include:
1. Clean, private guest room located away from main house is constructed new but with old-Florida charm;
2. Opportunity to reconnect with nature and enjoy nearby wildlife by walking the many paths/trails on site, or take in nearby parks. Canoe down the Suwanee River, just minutes away;
3. Enjoy owner's pampering - from gourmet treats to fresh coffee and milk supplied in your room, added touches abound;
4. Tasteful decor ranging from whimsy to artisan and includes handcrafted quilts, artwork, soaps -- even your guest house is custom constructed by owners;
5. Respectful property owners available to answer questions and offer exceptional hospitality -- and privacy and solitude as well.
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The room had plenty of space and everything we needed for this stay. We took advantage of Melissa's cooking for both breakfast and dinner which was well worth it. If you aren't familiar with the area you should know that all stores, etc...are a little bit of a drive away. So come prepared with what you need. If you are looking for a place that will give you peace and quiet then this fits the bill. Randy is extremely knowledgeable on the area if interested in outdoor activities such as hiking, kayaking, biking.
We greatly enjoyed our stay at the farm with Randy and Melissa. Their tree farm is peaceful and amazing. Special thanks to master carpenter Randy for giving me a tour of his sawmill and workshop. Do not hesitate to book your stay at the Frog Hollow Farm. Thanks again.
Our three-night stay at the guest apartment was the perfect end to our two-week visit to Florida.
Our room was clean, comfortable, and cozy. There is now a table and chair where the pictured love seat was located. (The table is handmade by the owners.)
The property itself was a highlight of our visit. We were able to hike the trails through the woods, over the creek, into the long needle pines, and around the pond. So quiet and peaceful!
Ben and Buddy, the dogs, added to the charm.
Melissa’s gourmet cooking was delicious! Each morning was something different and wonderful.
The best part of our stay was getting to know our hosts, Randy and Melissa, seeing their art and craft studios, and getting a lesson in pine needle basket making.
Besides enjoying the property we went to Stephen Foster State Cultural Park and to Big Shoals State Park. At SFSCP we were treated to a piano/dulcimer concert in the carillon. At Big Shoals we hiked the 2.25 mile round trip trail to the shoals. Both are near by and worth the trip.
We highly recommend this guest apartment to lovers of nature, art and craft.
This property setting 60 miles outside of Jacksonville was absolutely wonderful! If you want to get away from the noise and business of the city, we would definitely recommend a weekend stay here. Not only was the apartment clean, comfortable and cosy, so we're the owners. We enjoyed the privacy and the friendship established with Randy and Melissa, Ben and that dog that don,t live there(Buddy). Nearby things to do include the Suwannee and Falling creek waterfall which we so enjoyed.We can't wait to plan another getaway here! Did I mention the superb gourmet breakfast provided...over the top! Randy, Mellissa- keep doing what you do so well! Loved it and y'all!
I’m honored to be the first to review Melissa and Randy’s vacation rental. If you are someone who loves the country, is enchanted with Florida and has a creative spirit then this is the place for you. Located near White Springs you’ll find it to be an easy drive to the Suwannee River State Park just six miles. If you want to canoe you can do so on the Suwannee River, or take a day trip to an amazing clear crystal spring visit Ichetucknee Springs near Ft. White just a 45 minute drive. As for the hospitality. Melissa and Randy make you feel just like family. The room is comfortable with two indoor siting areas and a porch with two rockers outside. They’ve taken care to have lots of pillows on the bed. It’s firm and comfortable. There is room for three. A small child who can safely climb stairs will feel they are in a tree house. When we arrived we found a basket of starter supplies for tea and coffee. A jar of nuts and granola bars were a pleasant surprise. In the mini-fridge was a small milk and some bottled water that was much appreciated in the summer. You must remember that you are in Florida and nature does come calling so you’ll see the occasional bug that sneaks in. Due to the remote location we saw five spotted deer in the morning and heard a coyote during the night. The woods abound with wildlife. Ben, the beagle, was very sweet. The first morning we had french toast made with homemade bread, real maple syrup with oranges and blueberries and bacon. The next day we had sausage, spinach frittata, homemade rolls with nuts/cranberries, strawberries and freshly picked blackberries.
Even better than the accommodations and great food was visiting with the hosts themselves. Melissa makes home made bread, uses a lathe to turn bowls, welds found objects into sculpture and weaves pine-needle baskets. She even took time to teach me how to start a basket. Randy, is an amazing wood-worker who harvests his own logs from their 80 acres and builds peg/beam buildings. You can see one in progress when you visit. Their creative spirit permeates the entire property. Just bring a good book and a enjoy every moment. Perhaps you’ll even get to pick some wild blackberries or visit the organic blueberry farm nearby.
Close to Suwannee River as well as the Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park.
The park is home to the Florida Folk Festival is held every year over the Memorial Day weekend featuring a famous headliner as well as local talent. The park is open to tourists with live demonstrations and a pretty nifty gift shop. Canoeing access is available at many locations along the Suwannee and Withlacoothie rivers. Itcetucknee Springs is a short drive and a great tubing and snorkeling experience. The Florida Trail runs right thru our property and is a marvelous hiking opportunity.
The North Florida bicycle association holds its ididaride event just 6 miles away.
