Isabelle and Philip purchased this apartment in 2008
It was actually my (Isabelle's) father's vacation home, until he died in 2008, selected for the calm garden environment just next to the coast and with amenities near by.
Very short walk down a tree-covered road little traveled to the beach. Modern amenities.
The apartment is situated just near the lifeguard-protected beach, on the east side of the Saint-Marc-sur-Mer commune of Saint-Nazaire, yet only half a mile inland from this quiet neighbourhood you will find an outdoor market and an indoor shopping center with a supermarket. Step outside for a swim or long walks along the coastal paths offering great inspiration and fresh air. li li/ li li/
Saint-Marc-sur-Mer is famous for the setting of Jacques Tati's film 'Les Vacances de Monsieur Hulot' (Monsieur Hulot's Holiday). Just to the East is the friendly coastal town of Saint-Nazaire. The massive World War II German submarine base has been converted into a variety of museums and activity centres. At the tourist office there, you can register to visit the STX construction site of the world's largest cruise ships, Airbus Industries and more.

To the West, La Baule's 5-mile beach stretch has made it one of the most popular and chic beach destinations in France, among locals as well as international tourists. The waters are warmed by the Gulf Stream and people flock here every summer for sun-bathing and getting that perfect tan. This beach is not for those who need some peace and quiet, as its bustling with life. There are hotels, shops and restaurants lined all along the beach. There is a popular golf course near by.

The Briere is a huge national park covering 49,000 acres, the largest marshland area in France after the Camargue. The Grande Briere marshlands occupy much of that with reeds, peat-bogs, wild geese and ducks, traditional occupations of peat extraction, weaving, animal husbandry and fishing. Guided tours on flat-bottomed barks present a unique wet wilderness habitat with wonderful landscapes.

The smooth beaches of La Cote Sauvage are interspersed with rugged cliffs and little bays, offering a great variety of landscapes. This extends to the Pointe du Croisic. The old port fishing village of Le Croisic has retained its authenticity. From nearby Batz-sur-Mer church tower, you can have a great view of Le Croisic, the adjacent salt marshes and across the bay.

A drive by the oyster farms and through the salt marshes takes you to the magnificent medieval town of Guerande with its fortified city walls. A bit further are several other resorts such as La Turballe and Piriac-sur-Mer. The latter has an excellent water-sports centre. La Turballe is France's major Atlantic sardine port, with its modern fleet of fishing boats. Early risers should visit the port to see the catch being landed in La Turballe and Le Croisic. Guided tours are possible and you can visit the fish auction and market. The fish auction has its own small exhibition about the history of fishing.
